Why You Should Avoid the 2015 2021 Mercedes Benz C300
Mercedes-Benz, for many years, has been a benchmark for luxury but when it comes to having “outlaws”, they’re not left out.
The fourth generation (W205) Mercedes-Benz C300, which falls between the years 2015 & 2021 is the focus for today’s video.
Plush leather, better cabin design & build, luxurious external presence, loads of tech features, these and more did Mercedes-Benz offer on the fourth generation of the C-class.
The W204 Mercedes-Benz C300 was powered by a 3.0L naturally aspirated V6 (M274) which was a very reliable engine, however for the next generation, the W205 as seen in the video above, Mercedes-Benz in the bid to reduce carbon emission, stepped the power train down to a 2.0l twin-turbocharged in-line 4 cylinder (M274), retaining the power of a V6.
This engine, however, isn’t what consumers expected of the C300, given the impression left by the previous generation.
This engine, while fun, came with a lot of problems that were only worsened by poor octane ratings in the petrol in some countries.
The problems caused could be so dire, they could lead to a knocked engine.

I bought W205 (M274) in 2015 and never had any problems with it BUT you need to maintain it - it's very important for every German car because they will use latest technology and you need to follow their maintenance schedule. I live in Europe so it's not problem for us but it helps if you use premium fuel 98/100 octane (you can use Octane Booster if you don't have good fuel), change oil every year or 12k km (whatever comes first) and if you want to be sure you can also use additives like Liqui Moly Gasoline System Cleaner or Liqui Moly Direct Injection Cleaner 1 or 2 times a year. It's just a regular maintenance if you want your car to be in great shape for a long time - if you don't like strict maintenance then German brands are not for you and it's better to choose something else.

Great video.! Love the review, very detailed. Actually I am thinking of swapping my 2010 is350 to this c300 2015/16. The interior is really enticing but my mechanic said it has engine issues easily and I should go for cla 250 instead.. what are your thoughts please? Thanks

Hi there! Thank you for watching. In my opinion, the CLA250 has these problems and with the addition of timing failure and a few others. Both of them aren’t the most reliable from Mercedes and require a lot of attention. I’d recommend you go for any other Mercedes with the M276 engine like the 2014 C350 or E350. Those are very reliable

Hi there. Thank you so much for watching. Both cars are compact sedans from the prestigious Mercedes-Benz company. While the C300 is the more luxurious of the two, the CLA is a more affordable and more compact sedan. CLA’s build quality differs as it’s fitted with less expensive materials. Both share similar powertrain with the CLA using the M270 and the C300 using the M274. The problems of the M274 as stated above are experienced in the M270 as well. In order to enjoy either, you would need to purchase a very healthy unit and maintain it with a very good Mercedes engineer who would also be in a better place to advise on what specific oil additives to use on the car.

Hi there, thank you for watching. In my experience with familiar brands, I’d recommend Liqui-Moly, Ceratec oil additive, JLM additives and Liqui-Moly Octane Booster for your car.

Avoid Cadillacs that's what you avoid MB invented the first car by Karl Benz they have some models that are quite odd and quirky but theyll always take you home if taken care of. The C300 is a fairly easy car to maintain I've had the OEM battery since 2015 and just barely replaced it myself

The sunroof panoramic usually breaks some plastic clips, and will cost too much to fix, usually 2k t0 3.5k just for some broken plastic parts that where a design flaw. Avoid the panoramic sunroof cars mine has less than 30,000 miles and broke already

Hi there! Thank you so much. The C300 of the years you mentioned is one of Mercedes-Benz most reliable cars. It’s very durable too. The engine (M272) is a 3l naturally aspirated v6 and it isn’t problematic at all as far as maintenance isn’t compromised. The only issue I know it to have is steering lock which isn’t a major problem. It is a very good car to own

I have c300 015 and I don’t know about all this issues so i push the car so much that my pistons got damaged and was not fixed properly engine got damaged, i am so much inlove with the interior so please if i go for the c400 do you think it will be good ideal for someone who like driving fast.

Great presentation there. Love your confidence and panache. But you need to do more research to be sure of what you are saying especially when you want to discuss technical issues. "....you build up pressure which can break the piston". I have a problem with that statement. Turbochargers are designed to increase pressures in the combustion chamber for higher torque at lower RPMs. Mercedes-Benz generally has reliability issues. Faulty pressure release value on the compressor in a particular car cannot be used to generalise for the entire brand. Please do more research especially when you want to discuss technical stuff. Great presentation once again.

For maintenance check I don’t know what exactly is to be checked , the only thing I have done so far is constantly changing my engine oil and I use Mobil 1

@@davidmorrison9307 that’s the manufacturer’s recommended oil. That’s great. So service when due, don’t just keep adding oil. Let the old one be drained completely and new one put in. Change your spark plugs. Pay more care and attention especially after you hit 70,000 miles

Hi there! Thank you so much for watching. Mercedes updated the M274 for the 2017 GLC300 and 2018 C300 & E300 and newer until the M254 was launched in 2022 for 2023. This updated version is said to be a lot better especially in other countries with better fuel with higher octane rating. This though, I can’t say at the moment for countries that don’t have access to good petrol

First, before I even watch the videos, you might need to redesign your logo, the light blue color makes the miee less visible, if I had not gotten the link from the person that uploaded it on WhatsApp, I would not the able to get it, though I was interested. Make it a deeper color so that a bright video won't be a problem

Hi there. From your comment, it’s obvious that you didn’t watch the video, especially to understand the information being put out. The video was made to inform people of the woes of the Mercedes-Benz M274 engine which is fitted in the C300, E300, Glc300 and other classes with the 300 nomenclature from the year 2015 till 2021. It’s no news that these problems exist and people have shared their experiences on the various platforms where the video was put up. I’m this same video, I proffered solutions and even solicited for the other 6 model options of this same W205 generation from Mercedes-Benz and with more reliable powertrains. I implore you to watch, listen and understand before sending out threats especially where unnecessary.
