It’s interesting because I actually have had the opposite: I do my makeup in a way that looks better in person than on camera I always got frustrated because I would create a look that looked great in person but when I tried to capture it on camera it didn’t translate the same and it was really annoying to me I had slowly started to understand the difference and it finally hit me what it truly was with this video! Thanks, it was a really great video!
I feel you.. Like when I go out with my friends I put my bb cream and stuff and I loooove doing the eyeshadow.. I would put a very vivid purple and Pink AND GLITTER and on pics I see nothing.. But I think it's better to look better irl soooo slay gurls
Finally a realistic and honest makeup video. So many youtubers never address that the amount of foundation and powder applied in studio lighting is not necessary for every day wear outside in natural daylight. For people just getting into makeup it can be a bit misguiding. Not that a heavy amount is bad but this is much more realistic.
Alyssa Fraser Yep! When I was first getting into makeup a few years back I didn't realise this and used to walk outside looking a cakey hot mess. Over time I was able to adjust the makeup into being wearable in real life.
Yes! Back when I got into makeup, no matter who's tutorial I followed, my skin looked AWFUL with full concealer/foundation. I just thought my skin was inferior or I was bad at makeup..... Then photos of these beauty gurus irl came out and I realized their makeup was CAKEY AS FUUUUUU. That reality check made me feel a lot better about never wearing foundation.... Still regret spending $$ on shape tape, but glad I didn't splurge on the foundations all the gurus worshippsd
ikr. She looks so good, but I think I could replicate the techniques, which I have legit almost never thought when I watch the heavy makeup channels. Especially about couture and foundation
I love that we ("the makeup community" lol) are moving past the full coverage, matte, concealer-triangles and liquid lipstick being the ONLY way to do and wear makeup at all times in all circumstances. It's a beautiful look but the fact that we're recognizing that there are other beautiful, fun, trendy looks really opens the door for so much more self-expression! 🍓
Yes! I think that 99% of beauty gurus do makeup looks that just look good on camera! Without ever disclosing that in real life it looks cakey, I for the longest time would wear super cakey makeup because beauty gurus taught me, but irl it looks.. awful. The makeup we see in videos is only good for special events, nights out at club, parties... But NOT day to day life!
lol what do you mean much more self expression? the only difference is that women have shifted to appreciating makeup that emulates naturality? this isnt really self expression, it’s goal is to beautify in the eyes of others, with this it’s just significantly more natural looking minus foundation lmao
@@babygirl-nl4im I suppose I didn't make my point clear in my initial comment! What I like is that we're moving towards a trend where a plurality of makeup styles are trendy and acceptable. I can scroll through IG and see a wide variety of styles: full coverage and insta brows, colourful makeup, cosplay, avant garde, natural...and more. Instead of a monolithic idea of what's trendy, there are so many more options. THIS is self-expression. Hopefully that clears up what I meant!
The thing I hate is how Beauty Gurus use extremely thick full coverage foundations and yet they consider them medium coverage. They do one layer and look fine and then their like “let me add another layer and see if I can build this up”..... Instagram filters and photoshopping has really warped their idea of beauty and what real skin actually looks like.
I agree. Full coverage foundations look like a mask and high coverage is usually the only way foundations that match my skin come, so I have to dilute them with primer, which can affect wear time. I love light coverage foundations, even with my acne breakouts, but I have to wear my makeup for up to eight hours or more because I still work. Not having it last is really frustrating.
But are they doing it because they feel they need to or are they testing that aspect of the product? Some people use more than one layer. Would it affect touch ups? I agree the average person may not need (or end up using) more than one layer, but it's a good thing to test out right?
Jajjs my problem is the opposite. I think I look really good in person, people even tells me. But it doesn't look like I'm wearing almost any on photos
@@analuz1736 same for me. I feel proud of my makeup looks sometimes (I like minimal natural looking makeup but I still use bronzer and blush cause I love how it looks) but I look like I only have mascara and very clear skin.😭
How about a look with no false lashes? Do people wear them everyday? From where i live, false lashes are only worn during special occasions, or like people get lash extensions but they're natural looking
Could you PLS do a similar video with half a “photo” makeup look and half “in person” makeup look?? I learn so much better when I can see a side by side comparison!! 🥺
look up Robert Welsh, he has a few of those videos ...hes been doing videos JUST like this for awhile & now others are starting to do the same now that he's becoming popular
Omg this is the only natural makeup video that doesn’t make me feel bad about wearing a lot of makeup. I feel like usually natural makeup tutorials shame people who like to cake it on. Even irl it seems to be shamed upon sometimes. So tysm!
I find the exact opposite 😅I’ve only been able to find a handful that aren’t a natural looking full beat. It still looks nice but I just don’t own enough makeup to actually follow along
Can we talk about the actual like ART THEORY in the way you contour? This is how I paint. You always have you base, and LIGHTEN the base colour. Add light, not shadows. This is a brilliant way to do your makeup and I'm extremely impressed
This tutorial is exactly what I need 😩 Literally when I wanted to get into make up I didn’t realize that it was more for camera rather than face to face. I always thought my skin wasn’t built for it 😅 also you’re beautiful as always :3
Same!! I was so confused why my makeup always looked so textured and cakey when the youtubers I was following always looked flawless so I thought I just had bad skin and sucked at makeup. But then I started following korean makeup tutorials which are so much more natural and light and my makeup looks so good and flawless in person now. I'm so happy to see more realistic tutorials like these!
I don’t contour at all and I’m glad finally someone said that contouring like beauty gurus will look crazy in person. Because I felt like I always looked crazy whenever I followed their contouring tutorials!
WHEN YOU MENTIONED THE BUTTHOLE LIP OMG I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE WHO HAD THAT PROBLEM WITH LIQUID LIPSTICK. LITERALLY THOUGHT SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH MY LIPS LMAO
Thought something was wrong with my lips for a good year until I realized in person all their lips looked like that too! Lol it’s problematic making us all think we’re crazy lol
I remember when I was 14 and starting to get into makeup always asking “but what does it look like in person?” Or wondering how to get a foundation to look like that in person. It took me a while to understand the whole concept that the camera and lights cause a lot of these “flawless” skin effects. I have a feeling a lot of people have struggled with this type of thing and comparing what they do to what they see on social media and not being happy with their outcome. You really talk about things that often get looked over but should be addressed and that's part of the reason why I love watching your content. You're giving people the tools and knowledge they need to feel more comfortable in their skin or showing them an outlet of expression in a new light.
I was never super into beauty RU-vid so it took me a long time to realize the techniques don't work IRL. I always thought it was my skin or I was bad at it. I'm very glad we're starting to move away from that type of makeup.
I have done the full coverage looks for cosplay and I honestly prefer a light coverage look, often with no concealer on my acne. I’d rather look like I’m not a zombie, not like I’m wearing a mask.
i attend conventions where i see people who are "ig influencers" in real life. many of them wear the same makeup they have on in their online pics and videos and it looks sooooo insane to me in real life and very fake and weird. on camera it looks good but when you see them face to face it looks so drawn on and odd. this video makes a good point, save the stage makeup for the cam and let your real beauty shine through in the real world :)
When she finished her eyeliner she added the most perfect inner corner point HOW DO YOU DO IT WITHOUT MAKING IT LOOK CRAZY DRAMATIC HELP GIRL IT LOOKS SO GOOD!!! That’d be the ultimate tip
A video would be lit cause I think she might do it differently than I do.. but less is more! I tightline into the corner (putting more eyeliner IN the lashline and inner corner) and pull it out the slightest bit. Trying to literally draw a point or trangle on the surface of the inner eye usually ends up being too dramatic and wonky
Tbf it also depends on your eye/face shape, I literally can't do inner corner eyeliner without looking insane bc i have deepset/close together eyes lol
What I like to do is not use the tip of the eyeliner but use the side. I lay the liner in an angle where the actual liner would lay flat to my lash line. It helps me stay really close to my lash line by keeping it flat. If you need like a picture or something dm me on ig @dommiekx I’m bad at explaining things without having anything to show visibly
You could try an eyebrow brush, like the anastasia dip brow brush. A tight angled brush, cover the tip and just lightly tap the edge and et'voilá; good luck xx
you should definitely try the ordinary if you haven’t already. i have combination to oily acne prone skin and my face has cleared so much since i started using the niacinamide and zinc serum and the aha bha peeling solution. i hope this helps😊
I also have a full face of acne and very red scars but still only wear concealer as at the end of the day looks 10000x times better up close. Would rather have acne peeping through than cakey dry skin yannoo! Also recommended the ordinary its helping me out a lot at the minute xx
If you can get hold of a medical gel with the active ingredients klindamycin and tretinoin it can help you a lot. I was fortunate enough to have a doctor as relative who wrote the prescription for me. The gel was very strong (10 mg/g + 0,25 mg/g) and as a side effect my pmdd got worse and my hair thinner. But the acne was gone.
THIS IS WHAT REALLY GETS ME: when people GLOP foundation onto their faces, like TONS of it, and dab it all over I'm like WHAT? There's absolutely no way it will look good on me and it doesn't! No wonder, because off camera I'm pretty sure they look cakey as hell too.
@@aparna2701 I dont think it looks good cakey but I was saying the amount that alot of beauty people put on is a lot and it can look cakey off camera. Just in my experience. I was just say it does look cakey off camera
I don't think so. If u blend it well and chose the right shade it makes certain things pop. It's when people go over board, like with any other makeup, is when it looks bad. I don't wear it often, r at all tbh lol, but honestly I think it looks fine
@@DrkPhoenix contouring is basically making "fake shadows" on your face. In certain condition, your face shape won't produce shadows in those place due to natural movement of your face vs. where the light hits. To me, even though they're blended nicely, it will only look good in certain angle, and when the light doesn't naturally hit your face the way you put your contour, it looks out of place and somewhat blotchy😬 It's fine tho if someone likes it, I personally dislike contour EXCEPT for *stage makeup* , because in stage the light hits your face in consistent angle
Can you do a video on how to pick out the products you used to make our own skin tone. How light should your concealer be, how to pick out highlighter, etc. Hope that makes since
The amount of money everyone will be saving by doing this... also, I love how you say “spot-foundation” or something, not saying afterwards that I, as the viewer, should 100% copy everything you did. It tells the viewer to make their routine more personal, to fit our own faces :) 🍊
This is a concept I literally never thought about. I keep wanting that insta makeup and while i love colourful and artistic makeup, this truly taught me about skin and makeup for in-real-life interactions! Thank you so much i will definitely be changing up my makeup routine, that concealer trick literally changed my life! 😂
She right, I watched a professional makeup artist and they said you’re not supposed to put so much concealer under your eyes. They said it turns into foundation bc it spreads all over the face defeating the point.
im rly proud that these tips were some that i've been doing for years! idk why i always felt so weird about not rly wanting to wear super full coverage makeup. glad i'm not the only one who thinks about studio makeup vs everyday makeup!
I’m trying to look snatched IRL! I don’t take many photos of my makeup (I always seems to forget) so all I really care about is it looking good in real life situations so thank you for posting this queen ❤️❤️
I just do my usual routine: moisturizer, thin layer of foundation, brow pencil, mascara, natural looking blush, and lip tint. I don't really do the other jazz like concealing and contouring. I'll only do those including my eyeshadow for the gram🤣 Anyway, I love this💕
LOVE this makeup, this is beautiful and explains makeup in such a versatile way. I think we really got stuck in one or two ways to use full coverage products. The blush explanation and concealer were my fav parts! Learn something new everyday.
Thank you for mentioning that makeup in videos doesnt look the same in person! When I first got into makeup I almost gave up because I'd do the exact same thing as the influencer would do but I'd look cakey and have pores and texture! Felt like I was doing something wrong for years lol
Luzaurora Echevarria right! people watch these videos and actually go outside looking like this ! It’s beautiful but cakey , uncomfortable and can be acne prone 😫
I would personally recommend just doing your lash line with the liner and using a different ligues or gel liner to make the wing. It’ll save you product and you might actually get those 70 uses out of it.❤️
I just watched your video talking about how to freshen up your look without makeup, and you mentioned face to face makeup!! So glad you did this video ❤️
i love makeup like this! i only do “you tuber” makeup when i have an event or clubbing and i don’t mind looking like i’m wearing makeup, but on a day to day basis, i love makeup that just enhances my natural features and looks more skin-like. thanks for the tips 💛
I wish I could figure out/find an exact match of foundation. I feel like everything is too light or too orange. I’m olive ish toned but quite light. It’s the struggle! Until then, full face of foundation it is I guess. 💀✨
Get a blue foundation pigment to make your orange foundations more olive toned. I have the same problem, this solved it permanently for me and you can have a perfect match with every foundation and shade.
I just want to say thank you for showing how you apply makeup under the eye, it's kinda changed my life. Like I've heard more natural beauty people say to apply as LITTLE AS POSSIBLE, before but actually seeing you yourself apply it really helped me figure out how to do it on my own face without it coming out creasy. I have insane eye-bags and I just really wanted to say thank you! This series is kinda magic.
I was literally just thinking about how it makeup is unrealistic in real life, what a coincidence! There’s definitely a time and place for different types of makeup
Agreed, whenever I tried to recreate the makeup techniques that I saw in videos, I would immediately see how cakey it is and try to wipe it away. I think that the makeup we see in videos is great for nights at a club/party (where it's dark), or for events where they take lots of videos and pictures, but for day to day, especially in the daylight makeup from youtube videos looks like clown makeup.. Not exaggerating lol, I've had people look at me weird because I had a shit ton of contour and blush that on camera looked just fine but irl it looked like I had all the colors of the rainbow on my face... Let's just say: not cute!!
Thats why i prefer tinted moisturizers with spf, over foundation and cakey makeup. And concealer only for like special occasions . Huge thumbs up to this video❤
Not gonna lie, I've been trying to figure out how TF I can go about wearing makeup without feeling like I have to cake my face. I would rather go w/o and normally do and when I try to find (brown) influencers who don't cake it on, it's far and few between. Thanks for this. These tips were beyond helpful.
I lowkey feel self conscious when wearing makeup at a family gathering or sum because I’m not really an expert yet you know? a girl still experimenting and learning 😩
I used to think I was crazy when I would follow tutorials and look crazy in person 😂 I learned that I have always preferred this kind of makeup! I think it just looks so flattering on everyone 🌟 🍑🍒🥭🍉🥥🍍
I would LOVE a video about how to shape your face using blush!!!! Or really just any advice you have on applying blush because I have no idea what I’m doing.
The fact that you were able to explain the concept of this video alone is amazing lol! I totally get how it’s hard to explain that highlight in person can look like a detached or like isolated blotch of product when in reality we want most of our makeup to look seamless! It looks great on camera because the camera doesn’t pick up that harsher like our eyes can pick up on. Learned a lot from this video can’t wait to do my makeup tomorrow!
🥝 I’ve been trying to do something like this for so long and never loved the outcome! Thanks for this babe 💕 maybe I’ll feel that my makeup looks better this way lol. Also congrats on getting verified on tiktok!!!!
I would love to see a video on contouring for better definition of cheekbones and reshaping noses! I have a skinny bony nose and all contour videos are about making it look thinner which is kinda the opposite of what I’m looking for. I would love to learn from a beauty queen like you 💗
I usually turn to korean makeup when I want natural looking makeup because most makeup tutorials with the west is thick, but wow this is so cool. Willl use this as well
I have them. Honestly, the liquid liner is terribly sticky. It definitely takes a learning curve. Imo, not sure if it's worth the money if not wearing falsies every single day.
I have Eylure London (you can get them at Target or CVS), they are not mink, they work and look just as good as these lashes, I’ve worn them at least 60 times and they function and look as if I just bought them...they’re $14.99 opposed to the $90 that you would have to spend on the brand she used!!
I haven't seen a single makeup routine or tutorial where they put blush on their chin like I do along with the nose bridge blush, I just think it ties it all together!
So glad someone finally addressed this! I would also like to see a beauty guru address how long blending actually takes real time lol I feel like it just takes me forever 😫
Okay, so I have not worn makeup in awhile and I had all but given up on under eye concealer because it always looked cakey and too light. I tried the “outer eye only” concealer trick yesterday and holy crap? Magic. Pure magic. Excellent tip.
This is what I’ve been trying to achieve and I’m so glad someone finally said that you don’t need so much foundation. I love full coverage but felt so guilty for hating how foundation feels on ... this is iconic!
Good morning (1AM), from the eastern side of the world! This tutorial got me sold starting from the concealer tip!!! My extremely dark circles thank you forever, snitchery. I LOVE YOU! ❤
This was super helpful! Honestly sometimes I feel like I'm not wearing "enough" makeup. I have pretty bad dark circles too but seeing your techniques really encouraged me to change my routine! Thank you.
i don’t know if anyone else struggles with these types of eyeliner brushes like i do, but i’ve found it helpful to draw in liner with a brush youre better at controlling first(felt tip for me) and just thinly lining your eyes over it with the magnetic liner!
I think really heavy makeup looked good on OLDER cameras that may not have had as good resolution. Also, people who use very bright light tend to look more washed out on camera if they have normal makeup. However, if you don't use studio light and have good resolution on your camera, heavy makeup still looks heavy, although we may not see *all* of the texture going on
I just subscribed !! So far your videos have been so mind blowing and helpful !! I’m recently been playing more around with makeup and I love learning new techniques to work for my face
omg girl ive been trying to take care of my undereye pigment in a more natural looking way for so long!! and you taught me how magnetic eyelashes work which I've also been wondering lol. definitely subscribing!
i love how genuine this is and honest she is, like this might not work for everyone but it’s still actual advice meant to help and that no beauty youtubers actually share with anyone. i just really appreciate how she actually cares about teaching something to her viewers^^
Ok soooo.... I have big ass deep set eyes and have always had people ask me if I’ve been punched or am really tired without heaps of concealer. When she point at the camera and said “you do not need that much concealer” I felt properly chastened 😂 instant subscribe
I love this. I find that I’m quite uncomfortable with how much makeup I have one after I follow normal tutorials. You gave some really good tips on how to make makeup more skin like ❤️
I don't know what I'd do without your videos! I like the VDL lumilayer primer and their satin veil primer. Worth every penny, it makes my makeup last longer and it literally makes my skin look so smooth.
I’ve been interested in getting lashes like this for a longggg time, I know they are more expensive but thinking about the wearing power of them led me to get them! I’ll keep you guys updated in the comments on how I feel about them, I got the style - Va Va Voom and the magnetic liner as well!
