Went to adopt a kitten this evening, Realized how attached she was to her brother. Ended up bringing both home and doing my research now! So happy with my choice and awesome video man! First reason is more then enough i couldn't agree more
Hi Adam, Such a great choice. Our two boys are so well bonded still at 13 months. They do so much together. Enjoy watching your two grow! Best wishes, Jane 😻😻
I love it when they sleep upside down with their bellies exposed. They're completely trusting of you and where they are sleeping. That's a great compliment coming from a cat.
Me and my girlfriend got 2 kittens a few week ago. It was such a good decision getting them both as they literally teach each other and have totally different personalities.
Hi. Were they from the same liter? I know THAT always works. And if NOT,..did you get ur new Babies at different times...or different ages?? Just wondering if mixed ages/ timrs have great results too.. Maybe you'll catch my post? Thnx
Even better, don’t buy from unregistered breeders, and don’t let cats wander unneutered as these actions will go a massive way towards lowering the number of poor kitties who heartbreakingly end up in shelters desperate for adoption in the first place. Fixing the root of the problem is always the best approach rather than fixing the result of the problem ❤️
You started off with the big thing -- comfort. A cat's world is one largely comprised of scents. So, if the kittens (or cats, really) already know each other (and each other's scent,) anywhere they go will be home!
@Princess_Zo Yes they are. I’m sorry I don’t have a video. They play together, sleep together, hunt together and get into trouble together. Sirius has turned out to be the smart one, and Orion is the strong one. They balance each other out quite well. They make my life interesting.
i got two kitten a month ago and it's great, they do keep each other entertained and learn from each other. One would scratch way too much (he would just have his claws out all the time for everything) but he's learned he doesn't need them out all the time now which means less scratches for me when he's done of me holding him and hes' scrambling to get down lol! definitely glad i got two, the only reason i wouldn't suggest two is maybe the expense- feeding for two, vets for two, and if you have indoor cats it'll be cat litter boxes for two (although you'll probably have three cat litter boxes!) and that cost adds up too. and .... ehhh.... cat toys for two 😆 but that's the only reason so far i wouldn't recommend two kittens in one go
I love watching our kittens interact. They are 1 already and are so close. Our girls are playful still at 2 years 4 months. I hope they’ll still play when they’re 8.
No because cats are not naturally pack animals like dogs are 🙂 Kittens do bond well with each other but this doesn’t stop them from bonding with other pets and their humans.
@@MaineCoonDaily That's about the age mine are! Two little regular shorthairs, Jasmine and Bagheera. They still do everything together, it's a joy to watch.
I loved your video. The style, editing and your voice over. 👌 We had a young female cat that we adopted who was, unbeknownst to us already pregnant! She then got tragically run over when the kittens were 5 weeks old. 3 boys. Miraculously our little dog spontaneously began producing milk and fed them until they were weaned! We couldn't bare to part with them and so we have them still at nearly 4 years old. They still think our dog is their mum lol.
Thank you for your comment,.What a rollercoaster of sadness and happiness. I love how other animals step up to the mark in these situations - what a good dog. I completely get why you kept all three and that they see your dog as their mum. Do they act more dog-like than other cats?. My husband made this video. He does have a good voice for this sort of thing.
@@MaineCoonDaily they certainly do. They play roughly with the dog (she's a shih tzu and is smaller than them now hehe), rolling around, chasing, jumping on etc. They still try to feed from her but she let's them know it's not gonna happen lol. She still grooms them and they sleep with her. It's so cute.
Oh my god that is so absolutely amazing your dog produced milk? My god you have to love mother nature, reading this made my day wow wow wow so awesome, seriously this is an amazing story, it should be on the news or something lol
The only thing I could think of would be twice as much hair on the floor..... that has never stopped me from getting two kittens at a time. My 14-year-old kitten is purring on my lap now. Her sister passed away a month ago. We've already discussed that we would get two more .......when the time comes.
Yep, there's definitely more fur all over our house. When our cat Charlie passed last year his brother Harry missed him. We still referred to both of them as kittens at 15. We lost Harry this year in April and now have 2 aged 19 months as well as the kittens, They amuse us all-day long.
@@MaineCoonDailyI love my dog ...he's a hundred pounds of drool, hair and deep respect for the cats. But there's nothing like a bag of fur that chooses to curl up on your lap and purrs. I've never felt at home if there wasn't some kind of fur in the house.
@@ratsumatra3003 I know what you mean. When Harry passed away we had no pets left and the house felt empty. We got Mona in June and she helped us heal. And now we have 4 cats and no more dull moments.
@@MaineCoonDaily Exactly, they help us heal. Some of my best friends have had four legs and a tail. We are down to one 14-year-old flame point Siamese who does not understand why we brought into her home a rescue dog which is a hundred pounds of 'Oh boy a kitty cat! Let's play, I want to be friends.' Olivia is not impressed and rebukes his charming doggo efforts at friendship. She ruled over our 120 lb Labrador as well. Just a tiny little 4 lb Siamese kitten.
These 2 were cute as kittens, and are still cute as adults. I agree with you that 2 are easier than 1 in so many ways. Not to mention the double cuteness, double love, double entertainment. And really much less work for you.
If i adopt 2 kittens from the same litter from a shelter or a breeder will they only have a bond/ spend time together or will they want to spend time/love me? I really don’t know what to do😏 I have heard that adopting 2 is good if it’s from the same litter so they are siblings
I’m living in a small apartment alone and could use some companionship. So is it better to get one kitten so it spents time with me only and not it’s sibling?
@@tobylarsen4719 We found both times we did this that they spent some time together, some time alone and some time with us. We interacted with ours as much as possible to ensure they bonded with us too. The good thing was that when we we went out they had each other for company ❤️
Yep, you're absolutely right, that's why I took two brothers. The place I got my cats from won't let anyone get a cat unless they take two or already have one or have a cat friendly dog, which I think is great. BTW, I have that same rainbow catnip toy, my cats love it. It's Yeowww right? That stuff is really good, I get them tubs of it. But I need to find that electronic toys your boys were playing with, I thought I had them all but haven't seen that one. Your guys were so precious as little kittens! They're so cute together.
Yes, Yeowww catnip - good stuff. That spinny thing was on Amazon but they quickly grew out of it. How quickly they grew - thank goodness we have so many vidoes as reminders
It's a Dadypet laser toy. We bought it on Amazon.co.uk (here's a link amzn.to/3rnmDAm) or it's on ebay.com here - www.ebay.com/itm/DADYPET-Cat-Laser-Toy-2-in-1-Automatic-Non-Handheld-Cat-Chaser-Toy-and-Laser/164288690348?hash=item26405e78ac:g:LmoAAOSwfwdfDInF
My girlfriend and I are getting a kitten soon. I want to get two but she only wants to get one because of the cost (trying to convince her we can afford it[which we can]). What do you think?
Apart from the purchase price, you’ll need to double all other associated costs. Look at the price of food and litter, annual vaccinations, neutering if not already done, and also get insurance quotes. That way you’ll have an idea of what you can expect to spend every month. It doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg. Cats are social creatures so if you both go out a lot (work/shopping/socialising) having two kittens means they won’t be lonely. Let me know what you decide 🤔 Best wishes, Jane.
Just got my first kitten ever and he is a male, and about 10 weeks old. We were thinking on kitten number 2, and have the chance to adopt a female kitten at 12 weeks old. Is this a good decision to do? Will they accept eachother? Will they possibly try to mate eachother in the future? I’m new to this whole cat thing and I’m really eager to learn more!!
@@messidinho8895 Yes! The earlier you neuter them the better. Our kittens were neutered at 9 or 10 weeks of age and that's the recommended practice now in the UK.
got two kittens from two diff litter, one is male energetic british shorthair the other is a female mellow and calm himalayan, she's too chill im worried cause sometimes she doesnt wanna play
I jjst adopted a 4 year old female cat from a shelter, shes very tame and chill. I want to get her another adult cat beecause my cat is too lazy just sleeps all cday and dont want to play much with toys. Is this a good idea? How do I make sure they get along?
It is a good idea as long as the next cat you adopt is also chilled out. Even then, a gradual introduction is best where you keep both cats separate and then let them smell things with each other's scents on, and do things such as feed them one each side of a closed door so they are aware of each other during a positive experience. Take a few weeks over this, it's worth it in the long run. Most shelters supply an introduction plan. Good luck!
I did not get a buddy with smudge but i have a older cat and dog its love tolorate relationship. Question is smudge is aggressive player smudge doesnt use her her claws but does bite alot. is that because i dont have 2 ? I have big cat tree and tons of play things so im not sure if she is just a little brat 5 month old ( mean that in a good way lol) or is bored. Thank you matt and jane
Our kittens nip each other and us sometimes. So Smudge would probably bite you whether you had another kitten or not. It's just a kitten thing - playful, teething etc.
Thank you i was hoping that it was just kittie stuff. I have not had a kitten in many years booger is going on 14 so i have forgot the kitty stage. I love her no matter.
Good question. They can do, maybe not in the way siblings do. It really varies and the younger both are the easier it is. What ages are you thinking of? 😸
Our last two cats shared one litter box for years with no problems. As you’re getting them both at the same time, they will share it I’m sure. Just keep on top of scooping it out 😸
I say, " GO FOR IT" even tho i stated earlier about having 2 cat boxes. THAT was because KB HAD the room/ space. If you want 2 kittens.❤💜..just simply Clean the Box EVERY day. Then ALL will be content.
@@terriejohnston8801 Ha! I feel like I’m always on my knees scooping poop. Our outdoor litter box is working a treat though. It’s 10” deep, lined with gravel and filled with play sand. It’s easy to scoop out and the persistent rain in the UK washes it clean - I may have to hose it in the summer though 😆
like every thing else, two cats usually equals double the vet bills, i have a male and female, ( bombays ) so they can start a family, but i think i may have got them too young for this, he's trying like a playboy but he always seems to hurt her, and yes, i know the male penis is barbed so there is a bit of discomfort at this time, i understand that, so all the more reason for doing the job right the first time to get the job done............🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
@@MaineCoonDaily im not sure exactly, she is small but im not sure if that's just here, or it might have to do with her age, but i believe the pair are about 5 or 6month old now............🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
@@MaineCoonDaily if they were kids i would say they would be in their late teens or very early twentie, but she is soooo damn cute its really hard to age her🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
We work at home now so haven't had to leave Fred and Oscar, but when we got Harry and Charlie in 2005 they were 4 and a half months. I had a week off work but then they were indoors alone from 8 till 6 most week days. We thoroughly cat-proofed the house and shut doors to certain areas until they were older. They seemed to cope and we gave them so much attention when we were home. But, of course every cat is different. I'd say, two are definitely better than one in this situation.
my girlfriend and i just got a kitten last Saturday and now we regret not getting 2 so Now i’m going back to get another kitty, do you think they’ll still bond if they are from different litters and 5days apart?
@@tommyle3989 Im supposed to pick up my second kitten today. It’s a female 13 week old kitten. The one I have already has only been here 3 days, but is fairly comfortable here and is safe with sleeping with me in my bed. He is a male, and 10 weeks old. I’m really nervous that the introduction is going to be a failure, since I already have a kitten who is only half comfortable. Should I place them in separate rooms, or should I let them meet eachother right away?
Hello Debra! Thanks for your support here and on Facebook. I hope you like the latest video of the kittens. How are Booger, Smudge, and Luna? Best wishes, Jane
Thanks for the very nice video ... yes it's hard to find a negative for one or more kittens ... but I thought about the shedding ... and maybe hair/fur being all over the place. Your cats are beautiful long hair cats ... so do you find that to be a problem? Maybe we gotta find a strong vacuum. Thanks again.
Shedding - tell me about it 🤣with 4 Maine Coons, I vacuum most days. I have a Shark cordless and it is very easy to use. I also have a stock of sticky rollers to remove hair from our clothes. But they're worth it ❤
@@MaineCoonDaily thanks for the tip. Yes I see a nice bundle of 5 rollers at Costco which would definitely be on the list. Thanks for the Shark tip as well. Take care ... still shopping for my 2 kitties.. but I like to be prepared.
Mmmm I adopted siblings for all these reasons but when they got to two years old the female started being horrible to her brother. Apparently this is common. It's great to encourage adoption of bonded rescues but not sure about kittens if you are planning to keep for a lifetime and especially with the extra stress & boredom of being kept indoors.
Oh, what a shame! Our two are brothers and at 18 months are still great friends. Our previous brothers got along for 15 years too. We have two girls who are not sisters but were raised together from the age of four months at a breeder's house and now they live happily with us. I think you're right that boredom may be a factor in causing mean behavior.
my experience is, that it's easier to take two of the same sex. All the male cats I had were more rough when playing and the girls got either very annoyed or scared of them. However I believe it's cruel for a kitten to be kept alone. I would always advise to take 2, especially if theyare kept indoors😊. If we are being honest, most people don't have much time to interact with their cats. they are probably away for the better part of the day and when they come home, there are still things to do like cleaning, cooking etc.... so if the interaction is more than 1h the cat can be considered lucky. Just imagine that the cat is alone for so long time.... Boredom is one of the main reasons why cats are getting destructive or start to urinate outside their litter boxes. yes, there are some cats, that don't accept company, but the majority of them are older and got used to be by themselves.
You have some beautiful cats if you don't mind me asking how much did you pay for them when they was kittens I'd like to get me some Maine Coon kittens
Hi Lynn, Thank you, we are totally smitten. They cost £850 each from a TICA registered breeder, were fully health screened for genetic conditions, vaccinated and neutered. In the UK, pet Maine Coons cost from £650 and should cost no more than £950. Hope this helps.
Hi Nate, The good thing about 3-year-old cats is if you meet them before committing, you can see what their personalities are like. As they are bonded, you should have no problems with adopting them as a pair and they will be easier to care for as they will keep each other amused some of the time. Good luck!
No I don't agree, I have had two sisters who did not like eachother, I had two because I thought they would be happier, it just is not true, so don't feel quilty if you can't afford two, I have always had two but now I have one and she is a happy cat. 3 of my cats became 20 years so I have experience.....
