I can relate to this message. 😢 I always do my luxury shopping online ONLY. I feel very uncomfortable being in store even if I know I have money to shop. I don’t like to interact with people who’s job is to SELL ME something. I must be alone in this process.

I agree with you! Luxury for me means having the money to buy what I want from the comfort of my home after spending hours of research and browsing and having the ability to return something I don’t like when I get it in the mail. I don’t want to feel like I’m letting somebody down by not purchasing anything from them when I know that their livelihood depends on making sales. I don’t want a profile or a relationship with an SA. I just want to buy things and not worry about telling the SA “no” when they send you pictures of something they think you would like. My time and theirs is a luxury i don’t want to waste. True luxury should be enjoyable and stress-free and for me that excludes going to physical luxury stores.

I recently went into a fendi store. I tried to run in and out but the SA was like “I see you looking at this bag.” She showed me the bag and explained all it’s features. She had me try it on which was sooo amazing! I felt a bit guilty because I will never be able to afford a $4000 bag but I was so grateful that the SA was so nice.

I never really understood why people have said they feel uncomfortable in these stores until I took my partner to LV for the first time. I was shopping and looking around and having a blast with my CA and he was sitting on the sofa looking like a deer in headlights and fidgeting. I told him he could go and look around some other stores if he wanted. When we met up a little later, I asked him what was wrong and he told me how uncomfortable he was being in there for the first time and had never even imagined going into a store like that because it was so expensive and too “bougie” for him. I grew up going into the likes of these shops and never thought about them being intimidating for people until he said something. It made me feel blessed in a way but also made me feel kind of crappy that at 42 years old, I had never thought about it. Now he will go with me occasionally but only to stop in and say hello to my CA and then he runs to J.Crew or Banana Republic while I spend an hour or two with my CA. I will say, however, he doesn’t seem as nervous inside Gucci as he seems to be in LV. That kind of confuses me. 🤷🏻‍♂️🤣🤷🏻‍♂️

I don’t know how it is elsewhere, but in the US a lot of these stores are locked now. You have to wait to be let in and then a dedicated sales associate is assigned to you. It’s taken away the fun of just browsing on your own. And it’s hard to not feel guilty that you’re taking up their time if you know you aren’t planning to buy. I forced myself to do it recently because I was researching what bag I want next. Fortunately, the SAs I had were very nice about it.

I used to be so intimidated. I’m over it now. Except Hermes. I still find that intimidating. It’s more the other customers: I always feel like the poorest person in there!! Despite my brain telling me I’ve as much right to be in a shop as anyone else. I’ve heard Hermes SAs can be a bit snooty, but the ones I have interacted with have been lovely
@ameliarosescloset
@ameliarosescloset Год назад
Hermes can be not the most friendly to go to
@2FrenchiesItsCrazyAllTheTime
I would say im no longer intimidated. Instead I am simply over it. I work hard for my money and if I choose to overpay for an item I am certainly not going to be mistreated in doing so. As a result I’ve mostly shifted to saving my money or spending it on jewelry. I go to a local shop that supports small artisans and I’m much happier dropping $6k on diamonds and gold that will truly last the test of time (or can be melted down if not) and supporting a local business. I will buy LV online but I won’t play the Hermes and Chanel BS games. Less quality and more trouble? That’s very good marketing and a great psychological game but it’s not the way I choose to spend my money anymore. I used to spend tens of thousands on bags each year but I will admit I am turned off by the greed and rudeness and I’ve found other ways to spend my money.

Just the video for me. I don't have any extensive designer bags. My most expensive ones are Marc Jacobs Totes & Stella McCartney Falabella mini. I feel like they can tell I can't afford anything in there, wearing my M&S & Next clothes. Selfridges & Harrods are less intimidating but some brands have their sections cordoned off (in Harrods) or in a separate enclosed area. I feel like the SAs are patrolling for those of us who can't quite afford it. Having said that, one day I may be able to treat myself & they don't know my bank balance but I feel like they know. I'm going to London in two weeks & if I can get to Selfridges I'll walk into the Dior section like I belong there & look at a saddle bag as I'd love one one day.

I love luxury and own quite a bit of it. The most welcoming shops, in my experience, have been located in Europe (Eastern Europe in particular) and Southeast Asia. The most challenging have been in NYC and LA. If I worked in a shop, I’d like to think that I would treat everyone as if they had entered my home. I would make every attempt to make them feel welcome and comfortable. If that doesn’t happen, the brand is failing. This video should be part of the training course for those representing a brand. PS. I was visiting Dublin in August (University of Notre Dame playing at Aviva Stadium 🏈) and the service I received at Brown Thomas (one of your faves) was wonderful! ❤️

When I get the chance to go into a boutique, I go in with a huge list because I have travelled far to be there so I want to see as much as possible so I know what I like for future purchases. Having a list of items you want to see is a plus - the SA’s I have encountered have mostly been good but I’ll say the big really busy stores - they often will act like they don’t have time for you.

I tell them I am just looking to try on some bags and tell which ones up front or if looking for a for a certain item I know I will buy if they have it. If just browsing, I say that right away. I usually have no issues. I have even been taking my bestie with me that owns only a few lux items she bought pre loved to see how nice and helpful the SAs can be to get her comfortable for the reason of knowledge. I said they know more ahout these items then us and it is ok to look, ask questions and get a feel for a brand or bag/item. Enjoy your weekend and thanks again for info! ❤

Which led to be declining a medium black CF caviar ghw because to me it looked returned. I was so proud of myself for not accepting it as clearly they were trying to gaslight me into thinking it was brand new. After that I took nine of their crap. I guess for me, I feel that no matter what the store, if it is boutique style, especially luxury in nature, I don’t want to go in unless I am in a position to actually buy something. The SA’s look at you a little desperate these days and it’s obvious that they don’t want to assist someone who is just browsing. I feel much more comfortable if there are a lot of other customers in the store so that I can browse freely without the added pressure to buy. If it is my intention to buy something that day, well then that’s a different story. Times are tough and the economy has taken the fun out of window shopping and/or browsing. You can tell that the SA needs the sale.

I know that sounds elitist, but they are workers in customer service they should never make a client feel anything but welcomed, I don't think we pay shop workers enough because the commission on base rate makes the workers treat people differently because the worker profiles. Works have quotas and you look at people as income and not people that projects that vibe of this person does not like me.
