I don't hunt but maybe once a yr. and when I do hunt I wear my jeans and jean jacket and I'm on the ground to hunt. I get what I'm hunting. No camo for me it cost to much and I do fine wearing my jeans, since 1958 at 12yrs old. Go figure.
Hunting from a typical tree blind is one of the most uncomfortable ways to spend your time. Set up a ground blind in a good location and you can get up for a stretch, relieve yourself and not risk falling to the ground. Most tree stands are just platforms with a ladder. Not very pleasant for a long hunt. Deer are used to the deception and travel their runways glancing up.

Personally I cock my bow but don't nock a bolt before I leave the truck, Unless I'm going in during dark hours in which case I will cock it after I take it out of the case. On the other hand I'm not going to drag a stupid little target Into the Woods. Well personally I just use a dummy Bolt, if it was me and wanted to use a Target I would leave it at the truck and discharge the arrow by the truck or just do it at home in the garage.
Why are people putting rifle cantilever barrels on pump shotguns and autoloaders it makes it just as accurate as it was with the smooth girl because the barrel flex is easy because it’s then you want to get a grade on with improved accuracy use a heavy slug barrel like the old HR’s or savage and a 20 gauge will kill a deer and longer distance then a 12 gauge I’ve done it I’ve been doing it for years
I started hunting from the ground when my boys were old enough to go with me, they’re great for taking kids. I even took my daughter turkey hunting last spring and she had never gone before. I’ve found as I’ve gotten older I get a little “snoozier” on stand than I used to. Definitely would rather fall asleep on the ground than in a tree.

Manage the land that you hunt on.!!!!! If you hunt on private land manage it no matter how big or small. They’re real people hunting real dear just like everybody else they just took the time to manage the property and don’t shoot dinks.
theres a difference from managing land to hunt and having sponsors pay for everything so you look like youre actually skilled to take a big buck like this on the regular so they can make a dollar. im willing to bet take most of these same hunters on most of these same hunting shows similar to this one and put them in an area where normal hunters hunt and they wouldnt know their ass from a hole in the ground.

And I have to put up with road hunters shooting deer I’ve let go for a few years so they could get some size on them. They think they are entitled because they don’t see big deer on their land .I sure don’t dog out a fellow hunter because he has big deer , I hope they get a chance at a monster every time they go. Stop hating on your fellow hunters.
Throughout the majority of my life, I did 90% of my deer hunting "stalking". I used a tree stand when bow hunting. But as the years began to catch up with me, I realized that I was no longer physically capable of walking like I once could. Especially when I moved from the terrain of SW Arkansas to the Mts. of NW Georgia. So, I finally went to the ground blind. Although I was extremely successful with hunting before, I found that I see much more game than I ever did before. However, I miss the "stalking" because I felt like it was more sporting and needed more skill than just sitting and waiting for game to show up. TO me, hunting is just that. Get on the ground and go hunt your game. Tree stands and blinds just don't fit my idea of "hunting". But meat is meat, and in these trying times, one must do what they have to do to keep food on the table.
Amen Brother! I began my hunting with pheasants & rabbits. Kickin' em up! I start early sitting, ground blinds great, pour a coffee, can't be seen, ambushing em is exciting, sure, the longer it takes em to come in the longer that magic moment! But, soon enough I'll take to stalking. On a crunchy dry day sure I'll tend to stay seated. But slow, slooooow still hunting thru spots I know they often hang...very often I can sneak up close enough...and if they bolt? Well, honestly, I'm a pretty damn good shot, and that spot right behind the shoulder I hit more often than not. Truth. Can recall some heart shots while they were running, so ... To me, covering ground, the stealth, the slow pull up to off hand, or the immediate concentration if they take off....bear down on that shot, that's a bit more exciting than ambushing em & does present more of a challenge & most often, almost always, my shot is lethal. Like you I'm older & sitting is becoming more comfortable. : ) But I love that stalk when I can!
@@charlessoukup1111 Slipping through the woods attempting to sneak up on a deer has never been something I could do very often. I am not that good at that type of stalking. I used a different approach. I prefer a sunshiny with a lot of wind. That way, everything in the woods is moving, and unless the deer is directly downwind, they wound scent you as readily. And that sun makes their coat and horns shine. I don't worry about making noise because I know, I am going to no matter how hard I try not to. I depend on my eyesight and when a deer takes off, I immediately get nest to a tree to prop up on and watch. I will not take a running shot, no matter what. A deer cannot see DIRECTLY behind them. Thus, they will usually circle right or left and often stop to look back to see what you are doing. By keeping my scope on the deer, that is what I wait for. I may jump 10-15 deer and only get a shot at one, but that is all I want. And it paid off many years before I reached the point my knees and back just don't want to cooperate any more.
I just got my first deer ever today while “stalking”. I was actually walking up to lie down at the base of a tree I scouted yesterday when I came right up on two does about 20 yards away (I’m not great with ranges, but I know they were damn close; definitely could’ve hit ‘em with a rock). I dropped to prone position and watched one stare at me for about 5 minutes, occasionally running back about 5-10 yards to a thin tree line then walking back up to investigate me. There was a slight gradient running perpendicular to my line of sight which probably helped obscure my body. Once she finally gave me the broad side I got her right through the lungs with a 62gr out of a 20” AR-15. I had my left fist on the ground in front of me with my rifle magazine monopod-ed on top of my fist. Some people say 5.56 won’t cut it for whitetail, but at that range it’s as effective as anything could be. I have to thank the Lord’s providence for that one. I just found out about these see-through blinds and they just seem so damn cool, so I’m going to try that next year.
All that I used to hunt was out of tree stands until I got sick of getting busted by deer at the end of the night crawling out of the stand. Both bucks that I shot this year were from the ground. If you set your spot up right, you should be able to get in and out of your ground blind without any of the deer in the field knowing you entered or exited. Probably more than 90% of my night hunts this year, there were deer in the field who never knew that I left. About 10-15% of my hunts this year, I entered the blind with deer in the field already that had no idea that I entered. To me it's not so much about hunting from the ground or an elevated position for my shooting benefit as is it is risking getting busted by deer. When they blow at you, you just educated them and either made them more fearful of that area, made them move out of the area, or made them know exactly where to look for predators when they enter your point of vision. Not letting deer know that you're in the area is one of the hardest tasks you can pull off. If you can do it, you can hunt that spot effectively multiple times in a season.
I've used a ground blind, or sat on the ground behind cover my entire hunting life. (almost 10 years now) and I've been yards from deer. My first bow kill shot was taken at 7 yards. I LOVE hunting from a ground blind. I love being eye to eye, mono e mono with the deer. Not saying one is better than the other, but I've never crawled up in a tree to hunt. It makes sense for some properties. But I hunt mostly federal land/state land.
I used to hunt exclusively from a tree stand. Now I hunt exclusively from the ground, but I don't even use a ground blind. Being a duck hunter, I've become very good at learning how to brush myself in. It's a lot easier to brush in my body than it is a large blind. I have deer in range every single time I go out. I even had a deer brush up against me once. The key is to be still! If you can sit still, you don't need to be elevated or in a ground blind. If you're constantly moving, then maybe you do need to climb a tree or sit in a tent.
This hunting season was the first time I sat in a Hunting shack. A friend invited me to sit in his with him and watch his field. He built a little wood stove for it and when hunting In freezing temps with wind this was awesome. It almost felt like cheating when I shot a deer from it. Up till then I had taken all my deer by sitting in the open. No stands no blinds. I took 2 more after that by being in the open. By open I mean no cover at all. I was standing on a field road or lying in an open hay field, leaning against a fence post or tree. The biggest thing is sitting still. My son experienced what happens when you sit still. A doe walked up within 20 feet of me and her 2 fawns almost stepped on my son because they couldn’t see movement. The doe could smell us and knew something was wrong but just couldn’t see it so they walked off unalarmed. This has happened to me a few times. We walk in an hour before shooting time and plant ourselves and sit still. At 11:00 am if we haven’t had any luck on their morning movements we move to their evening paths and reset. We have always come home with meat. Now every situation is different and a highly pressured area is harder so you do what you have to do but the satisfaction of stalking and killing is far greater than baiting or shooting over a food plot.
The first time I ever shot a deer I just sat out in the edges of the trees in a huge corn field that had just been cut one day. Just me my 12 gauge and some doe urine. I shot me a 10 point buck that evening.
exactly. my uncle became a quadriplegic after 35 years of deer hunting in a tree stand. Not to say stands are bad but I prefer the ground ever since his accident that changed his and family life. Deer Hunting is so peaceful and liberating but just be safe guys and gals. Accidents DO happen when ya least expect them. Happy Bucks this fall!
Saw a guy come in the ER that fell out of a tree and got dual midshaft femur fractures to go with his broken back. And, he was almost too hefty to fit on the chopper.
So today I went with a buddy of mine to hunt for the first time on my farm. We haven’t moved in yet so not much movement there. Anyways we have no experience hunting. We did do some research & got into 2 positions where we could each have a certain spot to see deer. We didn’t use a blind but we did sit on chairs outside at ground level. First we tried a call & idk if we did something right but we had a buck come out of nowhere behind us & walk in front of us. My buddy was in my range. (He was at a spot where he could look downfield, behind him my land ended & was someone else) eventually the buck made his way over in front of him & none of us knew what to do he was going to shoot but there was construction going on in the background & it spooked him. Later probably an hour after I had another buck walk in through the tree line next to me. I aimed at him & I pulled the trigger & at that moment I remembered that I never put a round in the chamber. Point is I never thought hunting would be so much fun. It’s such a high you get I never understood it.
I'm also a newbie. Planning to go to a 35 acre area (owned by the hunting club I belong to) and try my luck from the ground. I'm not counting on taking a deer but hoping to at least gain some wisdom and experience and next year maybe will catch one! Best of luck to you and hoping your gun's loaded next time!!!
If you are hunting with a rifle, you can hunt whitetail from the ground no problem. If you are hunting a bow. Get on a stand. It is possible to hunt from the ground with a bow of course, specially if you have a blind, but your chances are way smaller. With a rifle, don't even worry, get up on a stand if you scouted, and know the area is hot. But you don't have to.
Been hunting ground blinds that last 8 years and will never hunt in a tree stand again. Safe!, you can move around without being spotted, warmer and arrow trajectory is flat vs. angled down shots. 4 pope and young bucks on the wall 125"-160" on public land in the past 6 years.
I live on Nantucket Island, Massachusetts and this coming Monday will mark the begginging of my fourth season as a hunter. Our public land consists mainly of dense swaths of scrub oak, which simply does not accommodate tree stands. There are some wooded areas which boast some gnarly pitch pines which, with TLC, can make for some excellent stands, but every year when I head out to scout a location for a stand I simply cannot find anywhere that hasn't already been claimed. Perhaps with more time and more seasons under my belt I'll be able to stake my territory, but for now I'm forced to hunt from the ground in some kinda remote areas. That being said, in my three years already as a deer hunter I have seen maybe close to 75 or 80 whitetails from my ground blinds, maybe two dozen within bow-range and have killed four deer (three does with my bow and one nice 7 point buck with my 12 gauge). My mentor invited me to hunt a tree-stand on some private property during my first season; unfortunately I didn't see any deer that day but the view and the bird-watching was stunning. I'll echoe some of the comments here that being eye-to-eye with a large wild animal like that is totally exhilarating... easily the most intense natural high out there. Been hunting Ground blinds since I was 16 years old with a little old cot folding chair some grass string and the natural brush of the area , just make a little V and set up in it . Have taking Ol refrigerator boxes and made blind from . But Love your Video and Gound Blind ... Keep Up the Great Work

A few years ago I was setting a blind up turned around and there was a big buck not 3 feet from me. I was making all kinds of racket and he didn’t care. Wasn’t legal to shot him at that time so it didn’t matter but I found that interesting
Just this weekend my two boys (12& 13) and I sat on penn. public land on the ground no blind. The best spot (2 bucks) was even with in 400 yards of 2 pull offs with 6 total trucks. Over the course of a 1 1/2 days at 3 different locations we had multiple deer walk past us all less then 50 yards, 7 at under 20yards in 2 spots. This is wearing orange hats and vest, no camo just reg street clothes. 4 simple rules: sit down/cross wind of expected travel, sit low against a tree or rock, have screening cover of some kind in front, never use the same spot every year. In fact I never sit within 100 yards of the same spot for 2 years. It’s always the same deer and movement and terrain. We just never allow them to pattern us. Instead of making 1 tree or rock “The scary one” we make them all possibly scary so none of them really are. When it’s obvious to others were we were successful for the next couple years the easy access spots get over run. Tree stands go up and the deer just move over 200 yards and avoid that spot, sometimes for years if fawns learn to avoid the spot from a careful doe. A one day sit per year and shooting a deer with a rifle doesn’t mess up the spot a week later as much as a tree stand used twice in one year, with no shots messes up a spot for the next year.
Ok these sounds great but all hunters don`t have the luxury . A lot of us can only afford to hunt WMAs . Speaking of Florida your not aloud cut branches off trees , You can`t make Food Plots . Of course I do make do I try to stick my blind up under tree limbs or even behind some . But legally I can`t cut pomfrons to dress it in . I do have Climbers , Ladder Stands and Ground Blinds now that I`m` getting older . Enjoyed the editorial
I'm an older guy. I'm not "disabled", however, I had a pretty hard motorcycle crag in 1990 that really jacked me up. It has only gotten worse as I age. Falling out of a tree is not for me. CLIMBING into a tree is not for me!😄
Ground blinds have a specific use. For instance, here in southern Arizona, we typically use them the last week or two of January over water during the archery season when bucks are rutting. It’s a great method then, but not so much during other seasons.
Go get some burlap sacks and a chair. Stick it where you want it a month before. They will forget its there until your sitting in it. Too Late for thar big buck...
I was sitting in my stand on opening day. I kept looking at a spot on the ground where two trees had fallen. Saw three bucks walk right by it that day. The next morning I sat on the ground right between the two trees. No burlap, forgot my ass pad. 20 min later, brown down. One week later I forgot my ass pad again. Sat right on the ground in the same spot and got my 2nd. My daughter just got her first from the spot now. I'm sold on ground hunting now. Ass pads and burlap are much cheaper and easier to set up.
Honestly, every type of blind hunting has its place. I think the important takeaway is pick one or two ways of blind hunting for different situations and become REALLY GOOD at using them. My favorite quick hide is using camo netting with 4 tree limbs leaned up against a tree. After brushing in the outside of the blind, your good to go. A good poncho worn over the hunter protects well against the wind and rain.
I almost always use natural ground blinds. A pile of logs, a blowdown , boulders. It really hides a lot of your movements. My pet peeve is hunters that set up portable ground blinds on public land and have no orange on them. A few years ago a hunter was killed near here in an accident.. It started to rain and the guy that was shot had put up a grey tarp that looked just like the wet boulders around him. A group of deer came through and somebody took a couple shots and hit him. If I am sitting in a leafy blowdown, I make sure I have something orange hanging up that is easily seen.
I use a orange backpack cover on my bag when hiking in which I then tie to the top of my ground blind. It makes it easy to see but because it's just an orange blob to the deer they don't know what it is.
I have extra orange vests that I can tie to the top of my popup or trees next to me. I do it because I noticed after putting mine up and walking 50 yrds away without brushing it in it nearly vanished in the hardwoods. If I can't even see the blind I just put up then its almost certain that no other person would know its there. I have seen orange covers made for certain brands of pop up blinds but haven't tried one because the vests work.
One thing I disagree with is wearing black. I use a trackchair to get out to the woods, and I never wear black in my blind. Either camo or blaze orange. And most years I see deer and shoot one. The past 2 years have been deerless years for 2 reasons. The one year I was on public land and was basically sitting in a trackchair out in the open. And last year the landowner put me 50yds from his machine shed and was always working in there while I was hunting.
Native people's the world I er have been hunting from makeshift blinds since the first hunter gatherer societies. Usually brush piled around where they hunt.
You shouldn't be criticizing other hunters for there style of hunting you don't know where they are hunting some states have thick brush where still hunting is impossible plus we get enough grief from anti hunters
They great when hunt farmed deer like those guys do. Were I hunt you would have to leave the blind setup for a month or more so the deer get used to it. Deer know when there is something out of place.

I have always been a ground hunter. I have never hunted from an elevated blind. I learned how to stalk whitetails when I was a youngster. I also start scouting in August to get my scent in the woods so the deer are used to my "stink."
I've had great success with ground blinds and even just walking and sitting down in brush, tall grass, or against a tree. Playing the wind is a huge part of it. Sometimes...deer that catch your scent are so curious that they walk up to you. Especially when they can't get your visual to match the scent. Rub fresh dirt on you or even some deer scat on clothing and boots.
The wives-tail that deer know what a ground blind is, is bunk. the other advantage of the G/B; Target practice...Barronett blind bigger openings are triangular, giving you excellent shooting lanes. I'm telling you fellers and ladies... If you have private land. Cpl of G/B'z. you will be very happy. you can have your stands and G/Bz. Where Ground Blinds rule...Turkey Hunting. We had birds 5yds from the blind.
This is the first time i've seen your channel, and I have a ground blind. Living up here in New England the winter it's cold. I was thinking about a heater insid. I got Mr. Buddy. Heater and a propane tank and keep that ground blind warm. What do you think of the idea?
I always hunt on,the ground I don't use a blind Niether. I'm to old to lug a tree stand in to the woods for one thing. I just use what nature gives me. And I've killed quite a few deer my average shot is a 35 yards or less in fact I had 3 does walk so close I could have nearly spit on them after they walked past me I shot a 7 point buck about 30 yards from me,,, but I'm not a horn hunter you can't eat the horns so what do need. With horns. ,,,

My ground hunt is a folding chair. Set up next to brush or a tree. Last year deer was 30 feet away. Sitting in folding chair and next to rock out crop. Movement is the most important thing. Plus, put clothes that plan to hunt with in brush you plan to hunt. Then, just plain shower two days before. No body sent covers. No matter how much your comoflage, movement is the enemy. I hunt in blue jeans and a simple jacket.
I've heard of people putting a sillouette target in their ground blind when they are NOT in it to make deer more accustomed to seeing the irregular shape. Does anyone think this is worthwhile?
For gun hunting you’re “ok” but for bow it’s definitely a no go. It can be done but why choose the absolute worst odds way to hunt if you have other alternatives? If you’re new to hunting trust me when I tell you that you SEVERELY limit your chances , and its one and done , once a deer sees the blind , which they will, they will not come back . Its kind of like decoys and scents, you might trick their curiosity once, but you better capitalize quick . If you have option to get a treestand there , do it and forget the blind. If its a … have to get in there quick and fast and no time ( or $) for a saddle or climber… and you have a blind alreeady…. By all means , might as well roll the dice
@@bombzdeep4475 oh i could fill a lot of tags for sure . That’s not how i hunt . I’m after 170+ . So i pass on deer a lot . If you’re just out to fill tags … its a great strategy as almost 100% will come in .
I hunt ground blinds since I'm quite disabled and can no longer climb. Also with seizures and fainting spells I can't be up high. So ground blinds are for me. Been hunting on the ground now for 4 years now (when my disability got so bad I had to ware body braces) I also love watching the deer so close.
Crazy odd comment about shooting does , I live to hunt been doing it for over 35 years , I have around 7 does that live on my property year round give or take a couple form year to year , one season they drew in 7 different bucks that I know of , my 75 year old father and I both got a good one that year , what do you think would have happened if I would have had a good time shooting a bunch of does ? Thank you for your opinions , but iam not going to stop deer hunting anytime soon , and iam not going to go have a good time shooting a bunch of does or even one for that matter , you can take your comment about me needing to stop hunting and shove it right up that big hienee hole of yours LOL.
Or... Just buy/make a ghillie top. Bout as good as it gets hunting from the ground. I've got a home made ghillie top. Deer will literally stare at me and be like mfer's a tree.
Wearing black inside a groundblind with an exposed face is worse than wearing camo. That combination creates more contrast and actually accentuates your movement and highlights your image.

For hunters safety, tree stands are best. If a hunter walks in and sets up a blind, and don't look around for another hunters stand, he could be shooting at another hunter, or being in another hunters line of fire. When shooting out of a tree stand, when you shoot, the bullet is going into the ground. Somebody is trying to sell portable ground blind.
I’m gonna tell you how my wife told me. How did Indians hunt deer? Did they have the most poplar scope or rifle?? Nope but it makes my hunting life easier honey😂😂
the only time I use my ground blind is for warmth in the very late season. otherwise, i'm walking the woods, and if I feel like sitting for a spell, I sit wherever is a good vantage spot. even late season, I still prefer walking through the snow. but there's those days that are just miserable, that I will have my blind set up. I will still walk as well, but use my blind as a warm-up and resting spot. when I really use it, is when the weather has warmed then got cold again, and the snow melted some then froze and got crunchy. those are the days when walking is almost a waste of time and I will just sit in the blind and hope a deer comes by.

Worst part of ground blinds is the zipper getting in and out. My baronett has a bag for the blind to go in, I drape that bag over the entrance and tuck it in, silent going in and out of the blind now
