I’m turning 51 in February and I just got my disability approved couple of months ago and I stopped working at age of 48 , my wife is from Manila and I told her let’s move somewhere in Philippines and enjoy life because she always brings up being tired of working all the time and I’m so bored being in the house all the time and I want to try living overseas but she’s not going to go for that, I told her that I will taking trips for up to 3 months at a time if I want . I need to enjoy some of my life before I drop dead. I’d love to travel all over Philippines and Indonesia. Man I love the view you have , enjoy your life and I’m happy for you

Another great video Mark. I have a feeling that not all have as positive experience as you have with friends though. Dumaguete/Valencia seems to be a spot where there's a higher than average amount of expats that are good, stable, friendly people. I have a small group of great friends after about a year here in Cebu City, and I'm fairly extroverted. Half those friends are locals and half expats. That said, I'm so grateful I'm here instead of the US.

Restrictions are temporary. Long term, it's a great idea to move to the Philippines. If you like open and friendly people, a hot climate, amazing diving, it's a great place to be. There are drawbacks, just like with every other place on Earth. If the pros weigh out the cons for you, then just gogogo! Good quality of life for those who value what the Philippines has to offer :)

franco leon ...Franco....I highly recommend the Philippines to anyone wanting to retire in Asia. My wife is Filipino and over the last 17 years we spent two to three months every year there. We built a family house and I bought a motor cycle for my transportation. Due to medical problems, I cannot live there full time at this time but it’s in the future....I recommend, if you’re thinking about it, to go there for three to six months and see how you like it...don’t forget that there are weather changes during the year, April it starts to get hot and August the monsoons start with lots of rain, if that bothers you....The people are great and language is no problem...a couple can live very comfortably on $1500 per year or even less. For the first timer I recommend Dumaguete on the island of Negros because there are many ex pats living there and it gives you a chance to ease into the Philippine culture.....another thing, if you’re single, the Filipino women are the best....cheers🍷🇨🇦

Your first point about being lonely really spoke to me. I'm 58, living in Canada, a bit of an introvert, and don't really have any friends. I still have kids (teenagers) with me, so need to wait 5 years till they are grown before making the move. So that gives me 5 years to research, plan and prepare - and I know the move would give my life a much needed reset. I find it very hard to part with my stuff though. There is the sentimental value and memories attached to things - like I have a dresser and mirror that was made my long departed uncle... a man that I remember clearly and dearly from my childhood, but someone that my children never knew. It would take a huge amount of effort to figure out what to keep, or give away, or sell, or throw away. Love your and Jen's channels. And hopefully things don't get much more crowded and expensive there in 5 years. I was watching another channel and he said once the pandemic is over, many people are planning on making the move to the Philippines and Dumaguete is where most are moving to... likely because of channels like yours and the other vloggers near you.

I'm 61 and have a thai wife. In the uk were suffering really bad with this Covid, I'm quite happy in the uk so will probably spend the rest of my days here. I know lots of people who go to Thailand, and many who have retired there. But what I'm hearing isn't great about retiring in Thailand. Will watch probably most of your vlogs in time so well done, keep it up okay. Bri and frei east Yorkshire.

I knew of a expat couple who came to live in Dumaguete. Invested in a donut franchise. Made friends with locals and was frequently featured in a society column of a local newspaper. Not sure if they’re still there. I left in 2009. I know of Diane Pool and husband who sailed all the way from Marina del Rey and never left Tambobo Bay, a cove south of Dumaguete.

I feel tired, bored, under-utilized and this pandemic has made it worse. Not close to adult kids. Wife’s family all lives in PI and now she’s a Lola. This is the second video of this channel I've watched and it resonated with me. Here there are no dancing girls, loud music and that jazz. I feel sincerity and words coming out from the heart. I write to express my appreciation and ask please don't change the format in search of mass audience: don't become just one like 1000s other soulless commercial channels chasing and grabbing money at every opportunity. Keep your integrity and your loyal audience's patronage will support the channel. I also wonder if you have or can make a video about rules, tips and options to come for long stay with a view to settling in the Philippines. Thanks a lot man.

One downside about the Philippines if you like to travel to another country you have no choice but to fly and the flights are almost always late. Uncle Charles ...Charles, how far is your house along? Have you got the electrical wiring in yet? I’m asking because over there they usually don’t put in ground wiring and only use two wire instead of three as in the rest of the world! I told my brother in law to make sure but it never happened! When I got there I saw that it’s only two wires and he said that I meant to use a ground wire from the breaker box to the ground...so, I suggest that you check this out and insist that all receptacles are grounded...it’s so difficult to get things right unless you stand over them. Luckily,my house is well built but I can’t say that for many others....good luck...cheers🍷🇨🇦

@@wallykloubek4079 Thanks for the heads up. We haven't had the plumbing or electric installed yet. My in-laws are overseeing the construction. My brother in law is a welder and he hired two professional masons who needed the work due to the pandemic. My wife's niece is a certified electrician and will be doing the electrical work soon. She has already told us she plans on installing a grounded system, and also said she can get us a bargain price to install a solar grid tie system. My wife designed our house, she majored in drafting in high school. We avoided using an expensive contractor and my sister in-law has been occasionally hiring some local "side car boys" to mix cement and shovel landfill. They appreciate the opportunity for side work in these trying times. I pay them daily and feed them well while they are in the job. It's coming along well and we are hoping to move there by August at the latest.

I had a heart attack in 2013 and now take all kinds of maintenance meds for my condition. I'm only 58 and still pretty strong. My question, will I be able to get my maintenance meds in PI? Do they have cardiologists over there? I would be living in the Baguio area and I know the hospital there is not too bad.

I agree with pretty much everything you said. My favorite being "if you don't use something within 2 months, you don't need it". I recently got rid of a lot of stuff, especially videogames, but some members of my family have scolded me for getting rid of my "heritage" to which I replied "heritage? it's just a piece of plastic, deal with it". I find it more rewarding helping people than playing the same damn old game for the 100th time. For instance, I met a young Pinay who lives in Leyte and have been helping her with her homework because I have fast internet and she doesn't. I already promised I'll visit her once the restrictions are eased. In the meantime, we'll just have to wait.
