Was thinking the same thing. My grandparent had a farm in Maine in the 1940's-1950's.. My parent lived there for a while before moving to MA. I spent many wonderful weekends in Maine with my Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins in my early life. I plan to retire in Maine. Only someone who is either not a New Englander, or has never experienced Maine EVER, would say that you should never move there. It's a BEAUTIFUL state!

Great satire...As a life-long Maine-i-ac, I can tell you that the following are things to actually fear (in the same vein): - March frost heaves. If you have driven any road identified by a number rather than a name within the Pine Tree State in late winter, you know. - April pot holes. I swear, they just send out crews at night every spring to invert the frost heaves. - Killer Bees. No, not actual insects. The local name for the pulp trucks that scream down state highways and the interstate south from the New Brunswick border. - That guy who operates the town landfill. (Scareeeee!) - A shortage of Allen's Coffee Brandy. You know that person who will go psycho on you if you talk to them before their first cup of coffee? Well, if you happen to be in just about any town in Maine on a Saturday night, and the corner store is out of coffee brandy, folks kinda of get like that. - Any lake south and west of Bangor in July and August. Tellin' you right now, stay off 'em on weekends unless you want to get run over by some dude from suburban Boston whose boat has more horsepower than his brain and whose blood alcohol content regularly exceeds his IQ. - Moxie. Don't actually know what's in it, but if it tastes like that, it can't be good for you. - Bean hole suppers. Do not be caught down wind of one of these. It's worse than the paper mills and clam flats at low tide. Other than that, there's not much to worry about.

I lived in Maine from 2003 - 2021. Maine is not covered in Jumping Spiders. You find them in pretty much every state. Maine has about the same amount of fog as any other place, a little more along the coast in mornings which is normal for any coastal community. I lived in Bucksport, and No, the story told is not the local legend. The story is the woman was burned as a Witch, and cursed Johnathan Buck, thus the outline of the woman’s leg. Yes, Maine has reports of Bigfoot, Aliens, Sea Monsters, etc, just like most US States. If you love cold winters, ice fishing, skiing, snowmobiling or other winter activities, hot summers, crowded roads and coastal towns during tourist season, closed businesses in winter, roads that are almost impassable in spring due to frost heaves and pot holes, higher cost of living, swarms of biting black flys and mosquitoes, an abundance of ticks, paying for grocery bags when you don’t bring your own, and shortages of items and higher prices, then Maine is the place to live.

None of this is specific to Maine... and it's really not all that bad. We have jumping spiders in Oregon. Same with the fog, snow and aliens (even bigfoot). And the superstitions / deaths not all that scary. One murder does not make for an unsafe state. In fact Maine has the lowest violent crime rate in the US. Your scare tactics make for good media ... but should not make you afraid to visit / live in Maine. I'll be visiting in September and I would consider living here.

Yup they didnt even do research on the bucksport myth i noticed right away, the woman was suspected of being a witch and was Buck(guy town named after) secret lover, so people wouldnt pin him for their affair he burned her alive and now she haunts his grave. No idea how they came up with the junk they said, its not that hard to google or find a pamphlet of the tale.

Take care and I hope you have a wonderful day!✌️

@@ChrisfromGeorgia Yes! I would recommend Southern Maine if you do decide to move because there is much more to do, and Northern Maine is basically all trees and potatoes. Most of the beaches are really nice but you can only swim from late June - mid September because of the weather. In the winter we will either get 10 blizzards or 2. Winter lasts from December - early April. Don’t move to Lewiston or Auburn. Just don’t. I hope this helps a bit :)

Having grown up in Maine, I love it because of the nostalgia but I’m so glad I don’t live there anymore. If you’re not a nature person don’t even bother considering it because that’s really all there is to do there. The only city that’s actually a city is Portland. And anything north of that, which is most of the state, is incredibly boring and economically depressed. Other than some coastal areas that do well in the summer. The people there are weird. They gawk at outsiders and anyone they don’t know and also act kinda rude. Of course, this doesn’t describe everyone there but A LOT of them. Top that all off with the fact that it’s cold for more than half the year with only about 4 months of actual nice weather and you can see why only 1.3 million people live there. Great place to visit, just not live IMO.
