Copyright reserved: Since 1981, I have always rubber stamped the back of my B/W photos back B4 Google was born. Now I just mark them, I did a Grammy Award Winning Album cover back in the 90's and I would be very upset "if" the record company forgot to add my photo credit. After i'm dead and gone the world won't get it twisted and wonder who was the photographer that captured an historical photograph. Everything I make with my hands, I mark as I pass thru LIFE. I do use the small one in the corner but you are right if someone wants to just wipe that out or crop they can. I don’t do it for that reason I just like the style of it. I totally agree with you. I also looked for "should I watermark my videos" for the promotion purpose. In fact it is the only video on youtube which its title really fit my search. I appreciate your comment suggesting that "if we want to watermark so when it is shared people can still see who has take the image, do it in a slick way", but I would like to have some more thoughts about the benefits and drawbacks of using watermarks for promotion. Many times people watch a video and are not really aware of the provider, so it is an effective way to make the people know about, especially if it's a brand or a person as a brand like a content creator. But I don't see many creators using them. Maybe there is a reaon for that. I suspect that if creator is at the center of the video, and on top of that present itself, the watermark is not useful. But if there is a lack of information aboutthe creator and people do not really care who has done it, for example landscape images, versus a drawing where people really would like to seewho has done it, then the watermark may be very useful I think Linux tip tech had some times ago a watermark and now don't use it anymore, I should double check that. I just question if it helps bring in customers. It’s the only reason I see it being necessary, if it works as advertising at the same time when people share it to their profiles
Nice piece - I am an assigned and paid pro sports photog - since the $$ is deposited the client owns the file - the "exposure" is welcome [bad pun] for said "pirates"
