This is the best 8 minute summary of keto I've seen! Keto has been a such a miracle in my life. I look and feel better at age 51 than I have in the last 20+ years. Plus it's refueled my passion to cook and to create keto-friendly versions of the foods I love.
I’ve been following your suggested version of Keto, since January! Everything you say can happen is coming true. Thank you! I’m coming to the Summit. I’ve lost 45 lbs. I’m no longer pre diabetic, my chronic heartburn is gone, my high blood pressure is in a normal range, my knees don’t hurt anymore, my brain is clearer, I have more balanced energy, I’m off of my antidepressants, I’m sleeping well at night, and my husband is soooo grateful I no longer snore like a freight train! Thank you for all you do. I’m pointing all my curious friends to your videos, and trying to assist people to this incredible life changing way of life. ❤️🙏🏼🎶
To all who still aren't convinced: I have been on keto for 4 months and I'm a living walking proof of every benefit of the diet and intermittent fasting. I feel great, I'm getting stronger, I breathe easier, got rid of cravings...and I'm getting slimmer 😀
It did not work for me, several weeks it was hard n feeling tired also could not delay meals otherwise u get hypoglycemia feeling. I got of it now , still little tired I hope I get better.
I'm totally with you ! Been keto/IF for 10 months now. My weight hasn't been this low since I was 16. I am now 48. Being a female at 175cm tall weighing 57kg puts me into the Ideal Range. Very pleased with the results. Maintaining this very well.
I'm on day 4 right now of Keto! I may hate it right now but i know that i must stay committed & disciplined to receive the rewards at the end of 100 day Keto diet.
@@Peach1021j Thank you! Trust me i will not give up because i want to accomplish this weight loss goal after 2 years of starting over & procrastinating.
@@ricklopez8431 I'm about to start my 3rd month, so I'm still very new. But I'm so glad to say I don't have cravings..and if I do, they go away rather quickly lol. This is the first time i haven't gone back to my old ways and i just cant believe it. The only struggle I have at times is keeping up the workout routine. But hopefully I'll get stronger as time progresses. Come back with an update if you can.
I started Keto out of the blue and without set time for how long. If you asked me day before starting Keto would I ever live without a bread or potato I would laugh and say never, I would rather die! 😂😂 Now, I am enjoying my freedom! I don't need to eat every 2 hours like a baby 😂, I don't need to go to the bathroom many times during the night, I don't cry when I am hungry, I don't shake...I am free! Lost 11 lb in 2 weeks but considering that I don't exercise, this is amazing!
Those mimicking foods that look like your old nemesis-- usually become a fond memory. I love that one aspect of LCHF/KETO - those non-ending munchies go away. Food as Fuel not Entertainment. Eat to Live - Not Live to Eat.
My sister got on keto & has lost so much weight & still losing! The AMAZING thing is my Sister didn't have a Menstrual cycle for over 12 or so years & she is not old enough to have been going through menopause, well After a Month or so on Keto her Cycle came & has been on track every sense. Dr. Berg you are the Best, I have passed along all your Videos on Keto to my Sister & she can't thank me enough. Lastly her Doctor's wanted to put her on all these man made medications to bring her cycle down & I Convinced her to do Keto & do it exactly how Dr. Berg says & Your Health will Change for the BETTER & It Did !
Great video on the basics of keto! Many of these benefits are not well understood by the public. I especially like the decrease in free radical damage with the ketogenic diets. This is something that we preach to our patients all the time. That is usually a huge motivator for getting people to adapt to our system.
Keto is great for some but not necessary for most, you can do OMAD and get all the weight loss and health benefits of ketosis while still eating carbs, just stay away from refined stuff.
Idk why people say keto is difficult. I really enjoy having steak, ground beef patties, salmon, bacon, eggs, along with delicious and simple salads, asparagus, brussels, broccoli. And I love cheese! I do miss sweets, but there’s options for that too.
Last year with intermittent fasting plus Keto I lost 55 pounds in 3 months. I kept the weight off for awhile but got depressed due to life and what not. So I’ve gained about 30 pounds back but I’m definitely getting back to Keto and staying on it. Thank you Dr. Berg
Yup! Keto and IF are a great combo! It was a little bit of a difficult transition psychologically for me -- felt like I would be losing out on some of the simple pleasures of life, but there truly are keto versions of everything I like, and once you're very well fat-adapted, it's not like you can't ever eat those other things and get back into ketosis ... but I find I generally don't want to. I enjoy a little of the fruits I love when they're in season (I'm not going to never eat perfect fresh peach or local apple again!), and an OMAD fasting day with exercise will get me back in. Overall, it was easier than I expected to adapt, and the freedom from hunger is wonderful! It's not exactly easy to eat differently than our cultural norm, and fasting is a skill that you get better at over time (I do a monthly 3 day water fast), but for me, the "suffering" involved in this lifestyle is much better than the suffering of dealing with the diseases and premature aging of the SAD. (think of side effects of medications or going through chemo, for example) My saying is "I came for the weight loss and stayed for all of the other health benefits I learned about." The science of this "diet" is amazing, so I believe it will eventually come around to being how we all eat....
Would love to see a video on why dairy hinders my weight loss, even while eating at a deficit and practicing IF daily with OMAD, or even extended fasts. When I remove dairy, weight comes right off. Thank you Dr. Berg for all the insight you provide us! I lost 17 lbs on an 11-day fast!!!
Dr. Berg, I think this is your best beginner video yet!! I owe my success to you, I started Keto and Intermittent Fasting 3 months ago and I'm down 45lbs. I lost 27 lbs. in the 1st month all without even exercising. I also drink your ACV recipe 2 times a day. Thanks for all that you do!
People have become casual in approach for anything now , blame it on the media . People will only get serious to something when the water reaches till the nose . You are the best teacher in the universe. Keep up the good work sir .
I’m thinking about quitting honestly. I fell into a spiral of side effects that didn’t let any other choice but to put ket behind. It’s not for everyone...sadly!
thank you very much, for such good videos, the keto diet has helped me with my epilepsy because the medications were not helping me and when I started the keto diet, stopped completely, thank you doctor for such good explanations about the diet.
Remember to include salt in the diet, insulin helps the body hold onto salt really well but since youre getting rid of the insuln your salt level will take a steep drop and this is a good reason why someone feels ill at first when starting it particulary since you might already be on a low salt diet since youre looking to be healthy but remember the fda keeps it on the low end already, to lower it further will cause far more harm than too much.
Not to mention theres alot of arguments from cardiologists and counter evidence to show reducing salt to their levels might very well increase risk of death and the evidence is especially strong for people going below the fdas recommendations. But its upto you what you want to believe just dont go below. The dangerous point of salt sits around 6000mg of sodium or thats about 15g in salt where people get issues theres a pretty big gap too
And another point is an increase in potassium balances out the sodium and lowers how much you absorb and vice versa. Even people who consume a ton of salt can end up with less mortality because they have the potassium to balance it. So take note in how much salt you have and obviously potassium which you likely know about
I did keto for a few months and never felt worse in my life. I stopped it when i discovered I had hypoglycemia attacks thanks to a glucometer (I have no diabetes btw). I went to a doctor who told me to start eating carbs on every meal (1/4 of the plate) and in a short time I started feeling 1000000x better. Guess keto isn't for anybody. And it is reeeealy hard to follow regardless of not having cravings
I think it's important that people understand that they don't have to go full keto from the beginning if it is too hard for them. I started reducing carbs bit(e) by bit(e) and now after a couple of months whole grain rye bread and some fruits are the only foods left. I liked it this way.
If your new to this as I was 2 and a bit years back and read the comments here as I did looking for validation,,seeing people lose weight wishing you could,,I followed info from here and lost 3st 4 lbs in my 50s,,I couldn't exercise and lost all this weight,,Keto took time to get used to and it really works,,I've had a 50" waist though mostly 40" now it's 34", before I struggled losing weight before as an ex gym instructor but now with minimal exercise just light cardio and elastic resistance in which you can do most resistance work lying down if you have a back prob,,I'm getting my shape back and some confidence,,wish I'd tried Keto years back,,as always Thanx to Dr Berg and best wishes to each and all,,
I’ve watched thousands of keto vids (including tons of yours). This was literally THE BEST keto explanation yet!! Thank you, Dr. Berg!! I’m sharing the heck out of this!!
Dr Berg, please do a video on long time, (30+ years) diabetics on an insulin pump, and the fact they can do keto. My mother is convinced she’s too far gone for keto to reverse it. I personally know it’s possible to reverse it with keto. Don’t mean to sound like a broken record. Please sir. Thank you!🙏😊
Hi Alison, check out Dr Boz RU-vid videos. (Dr Annette Bosworth ). Internal medicine doctor who gets all her patients on Keto and fasting. She got her 71 year old mother with cancer on Keto and fasting, also her dad with kidney and heart failure. To great success. Dr Boz is s great teacher as well. Great videos.
I started this diet 2 1/2 months ago. BP was 140/93 now 110/60. Lost 12 lb. I was in the hospital for my brain not functioning well with chronic insomnia. Now im sleeping much better and I think much clearer now. I feel much better and eating 2 meals a day at 6pm and 12 noon without being hungry in between meals. Its working and I continue to watch the videos to learn more to improve.
#4: Foods taste good. YES ! Hubby and I recently went to an upscale restaurant [wait for it...] and ordered Prime Rib (him) and a Trout (me). OMG...it wasn't at all what I expected. My home made Prime Rib and Trout tastes SO MUCH BETTER ! Who broils a trout???? Yes it was Keto but once you learn how to cook meats to perfection at home and make your own spices, you'll always regret eating out, regardless of which restaurant. Point is, Foods only taste good at home, don't waste your hard earned money eating out.
I have been asked to speak to a group of “seasoned” 65 plus seniors about the Keto Lifestyle that I have been living for a year. My first suggestion will be to watch this video!
Another GREAT video - what makes it great is that he takes ALL his knowledge and simplifies and streamlines it with his gentle speaking tone and guides us without putting us down - he's not an arrogant dude! Take note, other RU-vid info people.
I dont like vegetables but i like fruits. Can i do keto with protein and fruits only without vegetables? The only thing stop me from keto diet is if i hv to consume vegetables a lot..that will stress me and increase my cortisol
It's like you can read my mind and answered all my questions. You definitely know your market and know how to explain things in the simplest of terms. You are doing a great service to the world!
Perfect summary of Keto. Saving this to show friends and family who are interested and also for the nay-sayers. All ready sent to my son...he doesnt need to lose weight but he wants to heal his body! Thank you again Dr. B!
Finding Dr. Berg and the Ketogenic way of eating back in March 2019 has changed my life. I started strict Keto, worked my way to IF OMAD 22/2, and as of today, I’ve lost 75 pounds and five pant sizes. Now, I’m at my goal weight! I no longer have cravings for bread, pasta, cookies, donuts, potatoes and all of the other carbs I used to base my everyday diet on. Family members can even eat sweets in front of me and I have no desire to have any. Please consider Keto if you are looking for a lifestyle change. It really can help if nothing else has worked for you!
Congratulations! Thank you for sharing your wins! Could you tell us more about it and would you be willing to submit it here, so that we can share it? Please use this link: ---> www.drberg.com/add-client-success-story
I found this to be very informative. I've been looking into the Keto diet, but have been hesitant because I wanted to do more research. I basically have been on the traditional weight loss journey with 1,200/day calories, 5x week 2 mile walking, and smaller portions. This has worked for me in the past. I wanted something that would be long-term and sustainable so I didn't want to get involved in any fancy diet. I will consider this though.
Today is the 4th day I am on Keto. 2 meals per day. Morning I am so hungry. I think I should eat more for 2nd meal. And I love fruits. No fruit is painful.
So how bad would it be? I recently started to love being social and eating out with friends, and I would like to eat some ice or a waffle here and there. What if I stay the rest of the time in keto and allow myself 1/2days carbs? Or go to a restaurant and get potatoes without making a scene, Is it worse than not being in keto at all? Always interested in that. If I fix insulin resistance, and then overdo carbs, won't it cause more damage? Like being in keto for 5 days, then eat idk, ice and candy, then back to keto for example. Talking about real life here haha
I found you last Sunday and been watching some of your videos since then. The 1st video I watched was about ACV. The way you explained it made a lot of sense and I started taking ACV on Monday. The 1st day I didn't notice much difference. But I gradually feel much better on the 2nd day. I have gastric problem since I was 13. Now at 41, I'm glad that I'm improving. I also start reducing rice consumption lil by lil. I used to eat a whole plate of rice and always need to add more. By today I only consumed about 4 tbs of rice. I'm quite proud of myself lol. I have no problem not taking refined sugar coz I drink my coffee black sometimes, I only need to remove sugar from my own cooking. I do plan on going full keto next week. Oh I almost forgot. Before this, I was almost 90kg. I'm short around 148cm so Im very obese. I weighed myself this morning. I'm down to 78.8kg :O I wasn't planning on losing weight. Truthfully I never thought I would be able to lose them after trying so hard before. I kinda accepted the reality that I'm gonna stay that way till I die but I do want to stay healthy. If I lose some weight then I consider it as a bonus. Wish me luck on going full keto! :3
This video is excellent. Covers all the important aspects of why keto heals, is not dangerous, & is sustainable. Critically important for everyone to watch. I am sharing this on my health coaching page. Thank you, Dr. Berg.
I encourage everybody here, if you haven't already, start making playlists of "Best of Berg". we've been walking together for a while now. let's keep getting the most important knowings organized and reduced down to the simplest verbal structure, that is not only easy to understand, but also not too overwhelming. like Garlic, Ginger, TULSI
@@20alphabet wait what? do you know i am talking about tulsi as in the type of mint/basil? it's great for adrenals and relieving stress. Rubber Toe? lol,
The only down side I found with the keto diet was the constant loss of sodium and potassium by the body. I eventually went back up to a Paleo level of carbs to prevent it.
Dr berg can you make a video on how the keto diet affects the pancreas. Is it healing and relaxing process on the pancreas. Because I heard that the Keto diet supports the cells of the pancreas, decreases inflammation of the pancreas and supports insulin sensitivity. Please cover this.
I decided to officially start today. I have been watching your videos to understand it first. I have been limiting carbs recently but not been doing it fully until today. I know it will be hard but I am determined. Also I realise that eventually I can make my own healthy versions of cookies , pizza etc which makes me feel happy. There is a girl at work who is obsessed with sugar. Like obsessed. She brings in "snacks" for everyone all the time. Well I shall not be participating anymore. She must not feel fulfilled if she constantly talks about food. She even admits to secret eating, possible eating disorder? Not sure.
You are a 100% correct! I am on this "dirty keto" you speak of. Also on IF 3-4 days a week. Had hit that plateau weight and am down from it now. Keeping my blood glucose down in a healthy range. Thanks.
Hadn't heard that term, but it works. Extremely low carb, no simple carbs, some berries and cruciferous veggies is about it strictly. No tons of protein, and ( for me) higher fat, but still below what, apparently my metabolism is dictating I need as I still lose weight week to week. Just turned 53 last Monday and weigh the least I have since I was at 25. Thanks!
Been on keto for a month now. Hunger almost goes completely away. I barely need fats to feel satiated. Is it healty to just eat protein and vegetables? Like steak or fish with broccoli for example. Thank you
Fat the most crucial part of Keto!! It has to take up to 70 percent of your daily diet! Please consume fat otherwise it won't work! P.S. the steak and fish have fat in it too :)
Help....I've been on keto and love it. Question if anyone knows...my mother has had early dementia since her 50s and now is 67....is it too late for her to start keto and reverse some of the symptoms of her dementia????
I’ve heard good things about keto on dementia. I can empathize with you. I know coconut oil is supposed to help also. (Eating a couple of tablespoons a day). They’re calling dementia/Alzheimer’s diabetes 3 now. Definitely try it and please report back!!
I was just recently told I'm prediabetic at 40 yo. I don't take in sugar nor carbs so the doctor explained that it must be genetic and unfortunately we just cannot run from genetics. My A1C was 6.2 and my triglycerides were on the higher side, again genetics because it just doesn't make any sense to me. I'm in shock because I thought I was so healthy! Thankyou for this informative helpful video! 🙏
Sincerely, Kristen Type 2 diabetes is diet related. I’ve been in fear of becoming (insulin dependent). diabetic for years, I was told I 100% would be (because EVERYONE else is on my moms side of the family, but me, three generations). I was actually well on my way to becoming diabetic until about a year ago. I was insulin resistant. Pre-diabetic, if you will. I educated myself on everything that causes insulin to rise, totally changed my diet, and reversed it. With that said, a lot of the foods labeled “sugar free” have hidden sugars. I found that out the hard way. Please educate yourself on all of this. You can have a higher chance of becoming (type 2) diabetic if you have the family history, but thank goodness it’s all about the diet. Plenty of videos of YT explaining it a lot better than I just did. I refuse to become diabetic and will not and am in the process of changing my body type from adrenal, which can be done with diet (and exercise helps). Dr Berg has many videos on that. I wish you luck in your journey! Btw...many mainstream Dr’s will tell you it’s genetic and there’s no stopping it. That’s incorrect. I’m speaking of type 2.:-)🌸
Awesome!!! I 💗 all your videos, but this one was made with passion and it's my favorite now...👍 Well done!!!! I shared to my FB friends and also with family and friends.
The major problem is that you have to be healthy first to loose weight. That's why many people have problems with diets. My father in law is in pre-diabetic state and I am afraid to tell him to try Keto because of his kidneys chronic insufficiency that causes him too much high levels of creatine. He must eat less meat and more carbs for his kidneys but that is making his pre-diabetic state even worst. My husband stopped his Keto diet due to gut problems with all these veggies and constipation problems.
I have been following you for two months. I enjoy your videos, Doc. Kind regards. By the way, for the people who want to try the Ketogenic diet and/or Intermittent fasting, I highly recommend it. I did the ketogenic diet for a month last year, and I lost eight kilograms. I have been doing intermittent fasting for maybe three months, and I lost a lot of weight. Furthermore, I feel VERY well, and I look much better.
I do Keto 4 days a week with One meal a day. I never thought my sugar cravings from early childhood would. begin to leave me. I'm hoping to do the full week eventually.
Thank you Dr. Eric, your videos are so detailed and clear. Because of you Sir, every time i go grocery stores, I always leave coke, candy and other sugary products. I no longer feel tired or less energy during the day. I eat what you guide me to eat. Thank you, you a life saver
I am still unclear on the concept of intermittent fasting, especially for athletes, ie runners. When is it best to eat or fast around an athletic activity?
I started clean eating for 4 weeks and lost 5 kilos. I switched to extreme keto no carbs for 2 weeks and i put on all the weight I had lost. This doesnt work for everyone. And there is also scientific evidence that the keto is actually dangerous for you. It may work but its not healthy. So for every article that says its great, there will be one that says it isnt. Too many fors and against. Same hysteria as atkins diet. Im going back to 6 small meals a day INCLUDING low gi carbs and 5 days in the gym. This ALWAYS worked and I never had any health problems. No keto starving for me.
I'm not Keto, but I eat around 50/60 net carbs a day, all vegetable with the exception of 3 fruits...Tomato, Avocado and 1/2 cup of wild blueberries....I also intermittent fast 20/4.....I eat around 80 grams of protein and the rest in fats...At 75 years old 6'1 and 155 lbs I also walk 2 hours every morning and lift weights every other day at a 45 minute clip..Obviously I have very little fat and I feel great...Only medication I take is for underactive thyroid ...My eating window is 12:00 noon to 4:00 pm...so you can see all my walks and workouts are done on early morning on a empty stomach...I Feel great.....The only thing keeping me from going keto is I eat so many vegetables ...I can maintain this life style and not feel any hunger at any time
@@Eric06410 hello... I get horrible nightmares when sleeping on an empty stomach. I was thinking perhaps supplements might help but I haven't looked into it yet. Any advice??? Also headaches during the day and dizziness.
Thanks Dr Eric Berg keep on telling about ketones it is very good diet it works 100 percent. I am 75 I followed your advice now sugar gone neuropathy gone and no one can tell I am 75 years at Gym I can run on 3.9 for an hour and total gym for 20 minutes and keep my heartbeat normal God Bless

Someone i know started keto and a month in had a bad lupus flairs up, is now coming up prediabetic and show high cholesterol. He didn't have this pre-keto. Any insight on this? He likes keto but his body is just rejecting it.
Keto doesn't work for everyone. I can't eat fats cause it gives me severe asthma flare ups. I can manage an omelette twice a week, but any more fat and I'll be in the hospital. It's high carb for me :)
Thanks for videos. I’m over 3 months into keto. Love it. If you have the time I’d rather ask you than google but I’m wondering why niacin pill flushes me. Red blotchy face. Itchy arms legs and back. I only take 250mg and should I stop taking it?? I take it along with zinc, ginger root, krill oil, potassium, and multi vitamin. Kale asparagus bacon and eggs in coconut oil is my first meal guaranteed everyday on my 18/6 intermittent fast.
Dr. Berg, your thoughts on the Keto diet for gastric bypass (T) patients? Mine was in 2006 and Doctors have told me I have to stop drinking... and I don’t drink, never have. I have found myself becoming angry about it. Not getting answers from doctors here in SoCal. Now it’s even more aggravating with 2-3 months waiting for appointments and sometimes a 2 day (48 hours) wait in an ER. I finally got an appointment for MRI abdominal Cat scan, in October, and began fighting for one starting this last January. I’m not asking for internet prognosis or medical advice, just asking for your thoughts on the Keto diet for gastric bypass patients. TY, I admire you greatly.
@Sara vzee yes, crazy things happen on Keto but craziest of all to me is that I might save my leg from amputation! My leg feels just fine, inflammation is gone and I cancelled surgery for now. I am not going to hold high hope but with less weight and proper diet, perhaps my leg can recover enough for at least few more years even doctors say amputation was long overdue. What do they know? 😉😀
Dr. Berg, great video! I very much want to start the ketogenic lifestyle but what stops me is the fact that I have a fatty liver plus no gallbladder. I keep leaving comments under videos from the popular proponents of this diet asking if it would be safe for me but only one has ever responded. Could you please, please give me your thoughts and advice? Thank you🙂
Heck yeah! My husband has a fatty liver and had his gallbladder taken out several years ago and is doing great on Keto/IF. Take it easy on the fats going into this, you need concentrated Bile which you can't produce, so buy OxBile available almost everywhere. 500mg of OxBile (don't go lower) and Betaine HCL with Pepsin (Porcine source) all available over Amazon if you live in the Boonies. Red italian Dandelion Greens are perfect Bitters to starts stripping the fat off the liver (Choline is important, too, egg yolks, liver or buy a supplement version of it). In short: Take Betaine HCL before the meal, take 500mg of OxBile after the meal and eat lots of Bitters (cruciferous greens) and egg yolks. You'll be in good shape. Good Luck !
I am currently doing keto and have lost 43lbs on my Keto gurney. Well with my results it’s made my parents very interested in wanting to doing it. But my dad has had a triple by surgery 4 years ago and a stint a little over a month ago. My mother has diabetes. Would keto be safe for both to do? Just trying to get an answer before I get them to do it.
I started my keto and combined with only two night shifts every fortnight, now, my period has been missing for more than half yr. tried contraceptives, which only changed me in weight but not my period....
I lost 6.5 kg in one and half month on keto diet without doing any exercise at all. I also combined intermittent fasting and keto and gave the result. So keto+IF is the best way to get benefits
Sasha Black Thanks. I would say cold turkey. I did the extreme and avoided the carbs altogether and believe or not the first week was disaster. I had fatigue, feeling weak, dizzy and keto flue and was not able to walk upstairs to my apartment. After almost 9 days I started to see the benefits and no longer dependent on sugar or carbs.
