The companion prequel game to the highly anticipated Eiyuden Chronicle Hundred Heroes has arrived, and the result is imperfect, but I still had a good time with it. Maybe you will too, and certainly it's nice to get a glimpse at some of the world we will be exploring later on.

I like your videos .They are short and informative. About the game this game and hundred heroes are both spiritual successors of suikoden that is considered one of the best JRPG franchises. I'm sure the main game will have at least three game mode on top of fort and city building.(It will be much bigger than this one.) Although this game is good i heard quote somewhere that best discribes this game: It is just an appetizer before the main course. (About the sidequests It was a trend until very recent but we're seeing it fading little by little in faver of quality over quantity . It just needs some time.)

I'm still playing through Rising and I've been a big fan of some elements like the character designs, general artstyle and town building, but I can definitely agree that the sidequests are dragging away a bit at my motivation to move forward in the game. I'm deliberating leaving a bunch of them to just move on with the main scenario but it does come with some slight issues like you said re: not having certain buildings upgraded. At the very least though its done a good job of making me more excited for Hundred Heroes, and I can agree that whenever I'd see a character pop-up with their introductory image, it gets me interested to meet them again next year in the main game! Can't wait for that one.

I'm really hoping Hundred Heroes lives up to expectations

I'm very glad I played Rising before seeing any reviews or... knowing anything about it at all! I'm a big fan of 2D Action RPGs, so I just kinda jumped in and almost-accidentally 100%ed the game. Without any expectations, I really enjoyed mindless questing and gathering with how fun the combat and writing were. Never did get challenging for me tho, even in hard mode. Hundred Heroes isn't my type of game, but I wish y'all the best for that when it comes out!

I think I'll give it a try before the main game launches. The character animations look a bit awkward, but I like the overall artstyle. The town building mechanic seems to be fun as well. A physical release would be great, maybe as a bundle with the main game...

We'll have to see on physical release, I got a feeling it's not going to happen but you never know.

I have no idea what this game or this series is, but man this looks like it would be a fun little romp. Thanks for putting it on my radar!

I need to ask, is this game inspired by Tales of Destiny? Seeing some parallels and its got me excited. Also, YT randomly recommended me your video, rightfully so, great video. Didn't even know about this game until now.

Happy to help, and as for inspiration I really don't know. I know Eiyuden Chronicle is a throwback series, but I don't think I ever saw discussions on Rising's influences in particular

I really enjoyed Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising and playing it made me even more eager to play Hundred Heroes when it comes out. While the game is very simple and not very difficult, I don't think that is necessarily a bad thing and I enjoyed the game all the way through. I know a lot of people complain about fetch quests, but they don't bother me because I grew up playing old school RPGs that were full of them. Besides, you can accept as many side quests as available at once and you can finish many of them with a single run through a dungeon area. You do make a good point that the game could be better if the player had control of the growth of the town -maybe taking some influence from games like Actraiser and Azure Dreams, but the way it was implemented in the game didn't bother me and I liked that the player could directly benefit to every improvement done to the town. Another criticism of the game I saw in a review that I agreed with is that the game ends just as it is getting at its best. I do wish the game would have been longer and shown more development for the characters just as I was becoming the most invested in them, but there is also an opportunity for that in Hundred Heroes so it may not be that much of a lost opportunity considering the story of these characters will continue in the next game. Overall, I had a great time with it and everyone I know personally who has played it had a similar experience. That reviews are so heavily mixed is a bit of a surprise to me, but different strokes for different folks and all that. Also, it is great news that a Switch release of Hundred Heroes was just officially announced.

Yes the Switch announcement is exciting (if not too surprising). I think it comes down to expectations for some of the negative reviews. They came in with higher expectations than some and that didn't mesh well with the reality of the game they were given. I think the reason I could enjoy the game for what it was is in part because I kept my expectations realistic. Of course, some people may have not enjoyed it regardless of expectations, not everyone can or should like a game.

Randomly stumbled across EC:R without having ever heard of EC:HH initially. Personally I enjoyed it, even without the context of it being a prequel. I'm a sucker for town building and the combat felt comfortable after playing Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin not too long ago. Probably will see about picking up EC:HH too if it strikes a similar style.

Hundred Heroes is definitely gonna be a different sort of game. It's from the original creators of the Suikoden series and is modeled after that style

I hope to god Hundred Heroes isn't easy, and that characters are fleshed out yet not totally separate from another's existence like in Octopath. Challenging gameplay, good writing, and characters with more depth than nu fire emblem would be cool lol.

We shall see, I'm hoping we get more information on Hundred Heroes later this year and then we'll have a better idea of what way they are heading

160 side quests is nothing when your native language is Bethesda RPG-anese
@CommRio

Having never played a Bethesda RPG I can't say, but I'm also pretty sure those side quests have some variety to them and in some cases are actually interesting with world or character development. These ones...not so much

@@CommRio I'm playing it now and you're 100% correct, they're grinds with no real bearing on any of the story. The fact that those quests are designed to level up equipment makes it a necessary evil though. I think they could've found a better way to implement it.
