Yeah, well, those explicit scenes that are very much there are surely a sign for bad Quality, as such things usually are. So i ask: How bad is the nonsense?
My theory: GRRM doesn't care about the story anymore. He's stated when he dies his manuscripts are to be destroyed. He MIGHT publish Winds of Winter, but he'll drag I out as long as possible, and he'll ensure that A Dream Of Spring never gets published. Why? Because that seems like the kind of guy he is based on interviews.
@@SuperCarlinBrothers Rothfuss has spent ten years doing everything but writing. He plays videos games on Twitch, he runs charities, he does everything except write. He claims that he has the book written in his head ...
@@robburgess4556 He's been very clear that mental health has been a big contributor to the delay. Artists don't owe you art. He'll finish it when he's ready and, seeing as he's started talking about book three again, I think he's getting there. Twitch is as big a part of his job as writing.
If you guys like The Name of the Wind, you guys would go crazy for all of Brandon Sanderson's Cosmere books. The Final Empire (Mistborn Series), The Way of Kings (The Stormlight Archive), Elantris, and Warbreaker. I dare you guys to dive into the universe that Sanderson is creating!
@@KingofFools No way dude! There is so much to make theories about. There is literally a podcast who has been doing 2 + hour podcasts just theorizing about the cosmere, and they have been doing weekly or bi weekly podcasts for 3 or 4 years, and still have not run out of things to talk about.
I absolutely love that Rothfuss caught you're attention and is getting recognition on this channel. His stories are amazing. Another great author that you guys should check out is Brandon Sanderson. His books are a huge vault of material that is perfect for theorizing. All of his books are linked together in a collected universe called the "Cosmere' and it's a blast trying to link them together. As a bonus you don't have to wait too long for Sanderson to get new material out. He writes massive books in an incredibly short time!
Yeah, well, those explicit scenes that are very much there are surely a sign for bad Quality, as such things usually are. So i ask: How bad is the nonsense?
@@slevinchannel7589 The amorous scenes, you mean? As far as I recall they're not all that explicit. Rothfuss tells you enough to visualize what's happening, but keeps it rather vague. Which I, as someone who really doesn't care for explicit scenes in books (or other media for that matter) found enjoyable to read. Normally those pull me out of the story and are a slog to get through, but not these ones. Take this with a grain of salt, it's been a couple years since I last read the books. However, if you are at all interested in them, don't let the presence of those couple scenes prevent you from reading the books. Book 1 doesn't have any such scenes, if I remember correctly, so you can give it a whirl to see if you like it, and if you do decide to read book 2 and get to an amorous scene and don't like how they're handled, you can just skip those scenes. It'd be a shame to not even give the books a chance just because book 2 has a couple explicit-ish scenes in it.
@@FriendB Ok, thats that, but why does a 15-Years-Old Protagonist (...or a book at all anyway) have such Scenes happen to them? As i said, normally, thats not a good sign and worth judging the Author about. So: Why?
@@slevinchannel7589 why would you judge an author for having explicit scenes in a book, it is normal that 15-years old people do those things, also can't tell you why the scenes are there bcs huge spoilers
Just subscribed and can't wait to see your Kingkiller Chronicle theory videos! Being someone who also makes Kingkiller theory videos, I can't wait to see what topics you cover. Here's a list of video ideas: -Who is the King Kvothe Kills? -What's The Chandrian's Goal? -Who is Bast? -Who is Denna's Patron?
The king kvothe kills is most likely ambrose. The chandrians goal is the annihilation of the world, its the only way for them to have peace. Well, bast is bast, He is a fae prince. Dennas patron is bredon=cinder=ferule=chandrian/rhinta
Please PLEASE read Brandon Sanderson's Cosmere. If one of your favorite things about The Name of the Wind is the really well fleshed out magic system then you will LOVE the Cosmere.
The Wise Man's Fear was actually released a few months before the latest ASOIAF book, so kingkiller fans have waited a bit longer. Not a competition but still
It doesn't help that both of GRRMs assistants are both writing the Expanse book series as James S.A. Corey and also supporting their own, much better, show.
@@koalangel22 Rothfuss took like 15+ years to write Name of the Wind. It really does look like he's going to finish it, and like he cares about the story.
I read Name of the Wind recently, it is a well crafted story that is pretty good. Y’all need to check out Brandon Sanderson’s Cosmere books as well, rife for fan theories and speculation, plus he releases them on a pretty regular schedule. The Cosmere includes a couple series and a few stand-alone’s and a collection of short stories that all have a larger Meta-Story that’s unfolding in the background if you look closely. I have a feeling y’all will really like them. Also, the Wheel of Time is another series y’all ought to check out, it’s be adapted into a TV series on Amazon Prime that’s coming out soon. I’d love to see you guys cover that when it’s coming out
Omg when my fantasy fandom channels start intersecting. If anyone else is looking for epic high fantasy with a cool fantasy I highly recommend the Cosmere by Brandon Sanderson, especially the Stormlight Archive
Definitely had to be a great feeling :) I'm the same way but was certain this was gonna be the time things changed lol. Alas, it will have to wait till the next giveaway :D Enjoy yours though!
Don’t get too excited. Lin Manuel Miranda WAS working on a score for this series. Showtime passed on it, as it’s not a complete series and it’s been a decade since book 2 was published.
“It has to be?!?!” *The Brandon Sanderson fandom laughing as it can’t keep up with all the cosmere and other books he writes* You all need to read Mostborn then go down the rabbit hole (or through the perpendicularity).
If you enjoy NoTW, I have the feeling you'd love Brandon Sanderson's Cosmere or Jordan's Wheel of Time. They both already seemed like perfect series for you, and this just confirms my argument for that fact.
@@SuperCarlinBrothers When I saw this video, I was so so happy. The Kingkiller Chronicles are probably he best books I’ve EVER read (And trust me, I read a LOT of books!!!!) My favourite RU-vidrs reading some of my favourite books. My heart exploded. Haven’t watched yet but can NOT WAIT!!!!!!
Yeah, well, those explicit scenes that are very much there are surely a sign for bad Quality, as such things usually are. So i ask: How bad is the nonsense?
Amazing novels but I've waited years and have given up on any expectation of the series being concluded. Would love to see you guys take a look at the Stormlight Archive. Best series I've read so far and Brandon Sanderson keeps churning out amazing stories
Ben: "In the present, he is dictating his own story to a notable biographer." Me, an English major working on far too few hours of sleep: "Ah, so it's a frame narrative."
Me: can I have "The Stormlight archive"? SCB: No, we already have "The Stormlight archive" at home. "The Stormlight archive" at home = " The Kingkiller Chronicle" On a more serious note, glad to see you guys branching out to more fantasy books series.
I will never stop telling you guys you should read the Wheel of Time series! The series has a great fandom and has an adaptation for Amazon in production. Soooooo.... What do ya say?
I've been thinking of reading them because I love Brandon Sanderson and I know he finished the last book of the Wheel of Time. What did you think of the writing style if you finished reading it?
@@Feral_Fruit I have read the whole series. The style does have a noticeable shift- especially books 13 and 14- but none of it was so jarring to make me stop reading, if that makes sense. EDIT: To clarify, book 12 was supposed to be the final one. But they split it into 3 because it would have been too unwieldy otherwise.
Some people r whiny little.... ahm.. the book is one of the best I’ve ever read. The only valid complaint a lot of people have is 1. The story structure (as ben said, there isn’t one. But I personally love it, it makes the book feel unique and like you’re actually going through his life. It IS technically an autobiography by Kvothe) and 2. The fact that the protagonist is op (which isn’t really that valid, as we go through the book WITH him, and see him grow as a mage. So i don’t completely understand how it’s a complaint) The second book has a few actual problems, but is still an amazing read. The way the author writes is SO unique, and makes u wish that there’s more. I’ve only read one of the short books, the slow regard of silent things, and it was AMAZING. It’s slow, and it kinda makes u lost at times, but (once again) the way he writes makes u completely attached to the book, and wondering how it’s gonna go. I’m happy that you’re giving it a chance. U won’t regret it 😁
The biggest complaint or the loudest one I have seen is the way the main character speaks about his love interest. It is very "but im a nice guy" friend zoney, awkward, girl is there to be "won" sort of thing. But in my opinion it completely makes sense for the character as he has no frame of reference for a healthy romantic relationship other than Songs, Plays, Poetry, and his Parents. All but the last are romanticized and not a good basis for real healthy relationships. This puts some people off, but I'm intrigued to see how Kvothe develops as a character.
@@curtisgoldthorpe6656 I agree with you I never read it that way. That's just the most vocal gripe I have seen. I think what they identify as incel nice guy attitude is really just a teenager that doesn't know how to do relationships and I didn't want to go into spoilers for the second book but he definitely grows a good bit in my opinion as far as relationships go.
Pat said it best while he did a panel. Brandon is a compulsive writer, and Pat is a compulsive reviser. If we put them together, wed either have the most amazing books in the world, or nothing would ever get done...
This was so helpful. I've had The Name of the Wind on my shelf for years (got it as a gift) and have never picked it up. Thank you for the motivation to become yet another fan who has to wait until book 3 is released!
Did you guys like Percy Jackson when you read it? If you did I would love to see videos about Percy Jackson too, especially when there’s so much content to talk about! There are already three series with the Percy Jackson characters and two more in the Riordan-verse (5 series in total). But if you didn’t like it I understand that too, a lot of the reason I like the series is because of the nostalgia (I grew up on Harry Potter and Percy Jackson). Anyways, I love your channel, I’ve been a long time subscriber 💙
Yeah, I totally am with you here!! I think the main reason they haven't dived into it more is because there's not much to make theories about, which is their favorite part of fandoms.... Also on Saturdays livestream they said they didn't really like the first book much (partly because they didn't have an knowledge of mythology, so it was hard to fully appreciate)
I love the idea of a third video each week about the books you're reading! Working through the Wheel of Time rn, but I'd love to check out the Kingkiller Chronicles afterwards!
I 100% sent Ben a DM on instagram nerding out and suggesting a bunch of other fandoms and a booktuber to check out if they choose to go in the booktuber direction :) I love when my favorite creators branch out!

Fiiiiiiiiinnnnnnneeeeee I’ll read it once I’m done with the Locke Lamora series. If anyone asks why my grades are falling it’s because RU-vidrs are suggesting too many books💙
@SuperCarlinBrothers Since you're doing something kind of new. ( New fandoms ) I was wondering if y'all would be interested in studio Ghibli. They're just like Disney and Pixar they're fun and family friendly and I think you would enjoy them a lot. @@ecocentriclife that is true about the theorizing. But they could still give it a watch and possibly do a review. I just think it would be really cool if they did. ☺️
I love Greek Mythology, so I really have dragged my heels on PJ because I'm sure I will hate it. Does it hold up? (I am also 33 so when it came out I was an adult so I didn't know about it til it was much later lol) x
@@hotpinkcrayolas This comment may be very biased coming from a middle schooler who loves the series, but I thought it was great! It puts a really fun spin on Greek mythology. The characters are great and so relatable. The author, Rick Riordan, also gives great representation later on in his books! There is great LGBTQ+ and race rep. Definitely held my attention through all 5 books + his follow-up series'. My mom, who's in her 40's, saw how much I loved the books and decided to give it a go, and she liked them as well.
Right, like how people got the Wicked book for kids because, musical, and it contains a graphic scene in a...club where a character volunteers for audience participation and is violated by anthropomorphic tiger...???
@@JennaGetsCreative yes! A little kid! And in the third book a guy loses his virginity while he's unconscious. But by that point I think people had figured out these were not kid books. One that really shocks me is Tender Morsels. It won a children's book award and in the first chapters a little girl is forced by her father to drink a potion and miscarry several of his progeny and they do not tiptoe around it.
You guys put The Name of the Wind on my radar. 2 years later I can finally watch your theories having finished the series. Thank you. They were amazing.
There are different types of magic systems in stories. Name of the Wind is a 'Hard' magic system, meaning that it has very strict rules. A 'Soft' magic system is where the magic is more mysterious and has no known regulations. Lord of the Rings is a good example of a soft magic system. Harry Potter falls in the middle of the spectrum. It's quite loose, but there are some rules to it.
The Kingkiller Chronicle (Name of the Wind) has multiple magic systems though. Yes, sygaldry and alchemy are hard magics, but naming (which Elodin teaches on the second book) is a soft magic system
@@josebeteta8283 I didn't know there was another magic system in the series. I've only read the first book. I held off with the second when I learned that it would be a LONG time before the series was complete.
@@robertgronewold3326 I reread the first book about twice or thrice by now (it's been my favorite since I graduated highschool). I'm impacient in that way, specially with series I liked a lot.
Please make more Name of the wind content! I want to know your take on Jax, the luckless box (maybe containing the name of the moon?) @@thequeer_underthebed2535 Oh. I didn’t know that. Then I can understand not wanting to give her money. Ah darn wasn't fast enough. Been wanting to read King Killer and thought I had my change here to finally stop putting it off lol. Oh well hope you all enjoy, I'll prob pick it up in a year or two once I get further down my reading list
I legit came AS SOON AS THIS VIDEO CAME OUT, but ACTUALLY WAITED to watch the end of the video, and people didn’t, which is very upsetting because that is kind of toxic fandom that you are only here for the free stuff, but the actual fans watched the whole video, so be proud of yourself if you didn’t get a book, because you are a true one
Well, I don't think that's really fair. Maybe there are some people who have been wanting to get this book for awhile but just didn't have enough money, so they didn't bother listening to the explanation (since they already know what it's about) and just wanted the book. Also, even if that's not the case and they knew nothing about the book, so what? They trust that whatever SCB recommends is gonna be good. So, they don't bother listening to the explanation and are just like "Cool, free book". It's not fair to call people toxic just for that. Also, SCB literally said that all they want is for people to read the books. What does it matter if they watched the whole video or not? They got the book, their gonna read it. That was the goal of this video, getting people to read it. So mission accomplished. Plus, they most likely watched the video afterwards anyway.
@@shadowshade904 it’s just that people that watch the video first came for the video, people who got the book then came back for the video just came for the free stuff
@@ethanbartiromo2888 Eh, I still don't think it's fair to call them toxic or a fake fan just for that. And if they came back for the video that proves they didn't *just* come for a free book. Also, something you gotta understand is that book nerds will jump at the chance to get there hands on any book, especially if it's free. So, just because some people got the book first then watched the video doesn't mean they are any less of a fan then you or that they don't care about the videos. They just really wanted the book, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that.
