Spike's end was undoubtedly one of the saddest scenes in film i've seen, but i can't help but feel like it is exactly how this show should have ended. It serves as a lesson. Jet made peace with his past after confronting it, faye confronted her past and found nothing, ed returned back to her home after a long time of absence, and Spike, whose one eye was looking constantly at the past, could not escape from it, and died because of his unwillingness to let go. It is tragic, realistic, and heavy. We're gonna carry that weight.

Yep. Shows like Demon Slayer are smooth and fluid... But almost to the point of a fault. It's approaches unatural. I think the best animated anime I've watched has got to be Castlevania. The art is not noticably digitized at all (not even sure if it is) and often where other anime drop in detail to encompass the scope of a battle, it increases it. Probably the best animated media I've seen. Cowboy Bebop is second in art imo.

This show changed my life. I still remember, when I got out the army, I went to my first Anime con that Steve Blum was at, and spent a lot of money to make sure I got this special pass, that allowed me to go to a bar that some guest. I remember how they did this whole announcement of the guests, and then they just opened it to hangout time, and I remember watch Steve leave the VIP area, to got to the "fan" area and talk with fans. So I lined up, my Cowboy Bebop shirt on, and waited to talk with him. I just remember walking up to him, saying "Your Spike." He said yes in the voice, and a tear came to my eye. I told him how the show changed my life being a young black man from the inner cities, and he just gave me a hug. One of the best moments of my life, and it's all thanks to this show. I loved the music, I loved the visuals, and I loved the story. I still hold it as my favorite show of all time, and it ranks up there with the 86 transformers movie. (long stoy) I know this is many years late, but thank you for this video.

I think I understand the point of Ed in the show Could you imagine the show without her? Cowboy Bebop would be so stressful to watch without Ed because, while everyone has a lighter side to them, the characters have such a heavy darkness and seriousness of it, they're so jaded and kind of, assholish Ed is much needed levity in this show.
@readwrecks

Well, we don’t really have to imagine the show without her. She doesn’t show up until episode 9, and she leaves in episode 24. There are 10 episodes without her and the series is only 26 episodes long.

i never could understand why people call shinji "selfish", shinji is running away from the pain created by his trauma as a child and try to fool himself into a lie were everything is perfect. Because of his trauma shinji is socially akward but "selfish"? how? how is he selfish? Since the first episode shinji agree to fight even if he didn't know how to use the EVA and he wasn't there for that in the first place (it was about talking with his father), so i don't think he is a "coward". I guess people in the internet just like to spam that word just like japan to sound "smart".

I wish that somewhere, in some different time, Jet came to Spike's rescue and that they and Fay are still moving around in the cosmos in the Bebop, a little wiser and a little more healed, after their respective closures, and have finally come together as a family. I wish they happened upon Ed and Ein, and that Ed and Ein walked again on the deck of Bebop. We will never know what really happened and we will always keep wishing... but I feel like I dont want to know. Somewhere in my mind, that wish has come true and I still sometimes happen to hear about their misadventures in my mind I cannot say that this is the best story of all time, I'm not qualified for that. But these people are the ones I remember most where I've forgotten many real friends. Thanks for this video! Loved every second of it.

I always wondered why it was so, but never wondered enough to try and watch. Thank to your recommendation, at 23 I finally watched it. And I just loved how it had a sense of relatability unlike any other anime I've ever seen. Now all I want is to watch anything else that remotely touches the same themes of Cowboy Bebop. Even just the part about being an adult. Because that kind of stuff hits just the right spot.

Playing bard games in front of the fire with the whole family is some of my best memories. These memories are not negative as a result Cowboy Bebop never interested me as a kid. Now times have changed. Friends and families have been lost to time or by poor choices of their own. After experiencing tragedy I now understand how to "Carry that weight"

One of my favorite animes. I also have this kind of nostalgia-love for the show, since I watched it the first time when I was very very young. Over the years I progressively forgot the plot, but I never forgot the music. It really left an impression on me. As an adult I re-watched Cowboy Bebop and felt stunned. It's a masterpiece. That's how I felt too. I watched some episodes as a high schooler back in the day and the music always stuck to me. I burned a copy of some of the soundtracks (back before I knew how illegal that was) and I loved the music so much. It wasn't until a few weeks ago when I was browsing through a friend's Hulu that I decided to start really watching Cowboy Bebop on a serious note (finished it a few days ago using CrunchyRoll because I can't afford Hulu on top of my other subscriptions right now)

That’s probably not an accident. Sunrise and Bandai teamed up to make Cowboy Bebop. While Bebop was in production Sunrise and Bandai also made Outlaw Star and Bebop seems to have seriously rubbed off on it. Outlaw Star had many more typical anime elements, but the western/sci-fi theme was there as well as the general tone and some existential pondering. Joss Whedon has admitted that Outlaw Star was a huge influence on Firefly. He took out a bunch of the typical anime elements, but he kept a few really obvious things, and many of those things are things that Outlaw Star and Cowboy Bebop have in common.

Not only as an anime fan but as a young adult having experienced love, loss, broken friendships, etc. If I had been any younger I might not have picked up on the metaphors, the noir and sci fi references, etc. I just finished a rewatch after finding a good deal on the DVD set. First watched when I was 13/14 so tempted to come back to it now. At the time this felt like no other anime out there, very cinematic and adult. Every frame seemed incredibly polished and well thought out - the characters, environments, world-building, atmosphere, action, music. Whilst most anime carries on well past its sell by date, I wish they had continued slightly longer (maybe to 50 eps) as it felt like there were many more adventures left to tell.

Bluezone785, I’m not trying to be a dick, but do you have a job, and bills to pay? I first watched the series when I was 23, and I had just taken a new job after being laid off from my first job and spending a month unemployed. My only bills were food, gas, car insurance, and my cell phone, but that struggle to maintain a personal status quo in the economy was enough to make the characters in the show entirely relatable to me.

I completely agree that they should have done more with Ein. There's one circumstance- I don't remember the episode- where there's a big problem that the team can't solve and they're all sleeping and Ein goes up and taps on the screen; when they come to, they realize their course forward, but credit is never rightfully given to the pooch. Also, he kinda saves their skins in the episode about the cult where the occulus-esque headgear is placed on Ein so the human crew isn't brainwashed. Thirdly, the fact that his name is Ein, or "One" in German: he's a prototype, the first of his kind. Where are the others? What are they being used for? What would happen were Ein to meet Vier? Would they get along? I know this all couldn't be contained in the show as it is, it's too perfectly paced to have an oblique arc about a cute lil corgi, but I could stand to see Ein in his own miniseries.

FYI, Kanno was, as I understand, not nearly as well known as the rest of the team was by the time Bebop was being produced. It's hard to call her a "heavy hitter" by comparison, because, well, it was Bebop's success itself that made her the "heavy hitter" she would be considered today.

This was a spot on review, I've been watching Bebop now as I am 30. It hits a whole lot different and to me this show is like a warm blanket on a cold day. You mention how this is not a character progression show and that every adventure is a distraction to the main characters and that is so true, true to life today. I realize that reason is also the reason why Ed and Ein decided to leave because they knew that there was no more growth, everyone else has already decided their fate. Thank you so much for this.

He's not really about recommending obscure shows _(at least most of his WYSW, this one included, are in fact about well-known series)_. I think despite the name, the gist of this series is not "hey, have you heard about X yet? Totally worth a watch!" Instead, it is likely rather meant to present the series as a whole; its characters and theme, what it tries to accomplish and where it succeeds. From what I can tell, it's presented through a quite analytical approach to an unspecific listener that may or may not know about the series. He doesn't quite try to hype anything up, and rather says why it works when you can appreciate a certain aspect, or at the very least will let you know when he thinks something is just his subjective opinion.

I felt every emotion I felt when I would watch it on Toonami in my youth, at whatever hour it was on. I rewatch it every few years. And just like reading a great book, or deep diving into a great album. As we grow and change, certain art forms always hit different. Bebop has the music, the visual, old style the right pace for what it is, you know when Piano Black starts playing, you have to take 3 mins and know this fight scene has to be watched. There is magic in this show. Always gonna love it.

I finally got round to finishing Cowboy Bebop today and wow. I’ve never finished a show and gone ‘oh. I get it now’ At first I thought the show was just iconic for its visuals, characters, and soundtrack. All things I absolutely loved but I was a bit disappointed with the episodic nature of the show, feeling like an a-b story would’ve suited the show better. It wasn’t until the end credits to episode 26 rolled did I realise that there almost was a subtle a-b plot throughout the whole show. The show’s absolutely incredible finale really felt like the conclusion of the characters (particularly Spike’s) mental turmoil, which I feel like was the underlying plot throughout the show. I like that it was short and sweet. Beautiful series. You really need to watch it to the end to get why.

I always thought it would be cool if there was 2 more episodes, towards the end but before 25 and 26. 1- Ed discovers ein's intellect and data storage and hacks into him, giving him a digital avatar that gets stolen somehow by a hacker and the crew need to rescue him, with ed leading the charge. 2 - Spike and vicious are put in some scenario where they can interact but not fight each other (over the phone, behind glass panels or something). And they just have a deep, reluctant conversation for most of the episode while the rest of the crew tries to free spike. This would be dedicated to fleshing out vicious as a character, because while he is really cool he's pretty 2d.
