Another great video! Would be grateful if I could ask your opinion I am planning on starting a graduate audit role at a small firm, studying for the ICAEW qualification. Once I have obtained my ICAEW qualification at a small start up firm (not currently listed on top 100 accounting firms), what is the breadth and scale of career opportunities that would be available to me as a newly qualified chartered accountant? And will the fact I obtained my ICAEW qualification at a small start up out of top 100 firms affect my ability to be a successful accountant and eventually work my way up to a role on 100k+? Thanks for your insight, really appreciated 🙏🏾

No you’ll be absolutely fine you actually may find a quicker route to partner at a smaller firm - but even if you didn’t want to you can work your way up, I’d say generally organisations are now more open to candidates from different backgrounds - at first the big companies wanted people from the big 4 only but they are diversifying

Hello, Thanks for this informative video. Please I'd like to ask if the worklife balance at smaller accounting firms is way better than what it is at the big4. Would people still have to do crazy long hours and is the work load lesser or just the same?
@FehzanMehdi
@FehzanMehdi День назад
I'd expect a better work life balance, however just because the firm is smaller doesn't mean you won't have to put a long shift in from time to time.

Hey Fehzan, saffery Champness are offering a school leaver programme in the area i live in, and im very interested. My only question is should i apply to big 4 school leaver programmes instead? It would mean that i would have to move away from home, however im not sure if its worth it. My main concerns are salary and exit opportunities, would the big 4 and Saffery differ much? Keep up the good work 🙏👍

You should definitely apply and see what offers you get don’t just accept saffery because they offered first. Generally speaking the Big 4 would offer more salary but like you say you’d have to move away from home so net you’ll probably be left with less. But in terms of exit opportunities, you may have better opportunities coming from a big 4 background. Right now it’s too early to decide, you need to apply to as many organisations as possible, then see what offers you have. At least then you won’t have any regrets when you pick one, knowing that you considered all your options.

Hi, if I was to achieve AAU in A levels and retake the U subject the following year, would I have a chance in landing an apprenticeship that's level 4 or higher?
@FehzanMehdi

Yes some places don’t accept retakes but you should be fine

What do you think about the longevity of accounting with things like AI now being used more often ?
@FehzanMehdi
@FehzanMehdi 10 месяцев назад
I’m not overly concerned for chartered accountants I’ve done a video on this already. Lower level roles in finance such as invoice entry, bookkeeping definitely can be automated and AI makes sense here but chartered accountants do a lot more than simply work with data.

Salam. I am Acca member and will be going to UK on dependent visa this year. My experience is in US taxation field for last 8 years. Should I do CTA? Will it be beneficial to me or not. And are there US tax jobs in UK easy to find? I see some jobs on job portals
@FehzanMehdi
@FehzanMehdi 7 месяцев назад
Wa alaykum as salam I’d firstly check if CTA is relevant or applicable to US taxation. You’ve spent 8 years in the field already so may not need it but in the UK it can help. US tax jobs are more niche but I have seen a growth in job adverts from US based companies looking for specialists in the UK.
