Doesnt matter how much I socialize her she does not trust people, she’ll tolerate you but will keep an eye on you the entire time. Waiting for a reason to

New Rottweiler owner. After owning many boxers before. I find this breed not only easier to train but more obedient and eager to please ... there is a definite seriousness this breed displays and and should be considered when playing w mates and owners but with needs clear and constant guidelines and absolute instruction.... this dog does amazing things ... he surprises me everyday how really great they can be.

Weak people should never own a big powerful dog specially a rottweiler the command respect and respect is given back . I love my male rottweiler he's my best friend but he nos his place in the family and he's brilliant with my teenage kids. But would never trust him round screaming little kids if I wasn't with him. It's definitely the owner I see them people everyday letting there dogs off the Leeds and have no control over there dogs letting there dogs just run around and there reply is he's harmless. My rottweiler has bin bitten twice by these dumb dog owners and my dogs response is why is this dog bitting me haha my response totally different.

My parents adopted a 4yo Rottie female from illegal puppy-mill. She had resource guarding issues (she was kept in a kennel cage her whole life). We managed to train it out, but in not experienced hands it could go sideways very easily. We had overall 5 Rotties in my family, most adopted rescues, and we know the breed inside-out. It's seriously not a breed for first time owners.

I just got my first rottie and hes 5 months old now, and these breeds are not for everyone for sure, only for those who know how to respect their dog. I learnt that with powerful breeds, they want respect and theyll love you and be obedient for giving it.

I'm a rottie owner in Australia. I work in Behavioural Rehabilitation myself and must say, I 100% agree with everything mentioned. Rotties are the kind of dog that should not be owned by just anybody. My boy is a social butterfly but the stigma is most definitely there. People crossing the street, huddling their children close to them etc. At first, it was irritating. I've since learned to laugh at these people. One particular incident really got to me; We were at an off leash park and this lady absolutely fell in love with my boy. She was sitting next to him while he sat and giving him pats for days. She said she'd never seen such a muscular and large Doberman... I pointed out he was actually a Rottweiler, at which point her love and affection turned into sheer terror and panic. She copped a bit of an earful after that display. Another time I witnessed a man get told off by his wife for letting his kids pat my dog... I just remember her shouting at him and saying "IT'S A F$&*#@G ROTTWEILER!" ... humans.

Oh wow... Thanks for sharing! I'm seriously considering getting one, so it's interesting to read other people's experiences. These people are so illogical. Like, I can understand being afraid of the dog before being close/starting to pet it, but if the petting has already started and nothing bad happens... then ?????

I have had large guardian dogs since I was a child (Dobermanns, Rottweilers, etc.) and I am still afraid whenever I meet any dog that has not been raised properly (even Chihuahuas). Any dog breed can be vicious and you should not be comfortable if you do not know well how the owner has taken care of them.

Thank you for this video. So many people don't realize what they are taking on : they may be big gentle giants (mine certainly was) but certainly need serious training and need to know who is the Alpha "dog". Yes, they have a bad reputation (I live in France) and are classified as Category 2 dogs (protection rather than attack) with the appropriate insurance and registered at the town/city council. Yes, I've seen people change pavements when I passed, but when they got to know him, he became accepted and played with the children. At his death (at 13), some people were very sad. He was part of the family (2 other dogs and 2 cats) and when I looked after my first grandchild, never a growl even when I took his food bowl away. One day I thought I had shut my bedroom door to change my grandson's nappies - he pushed the door open and licked my grandson's bottom - lol.

I have dogs since I was 14. Now, I'm 35 and for the fist time I have a rottweiler: a nine months female called Dalilah. Definetely, it's the most stubborn dog that I've ever had. I'm reading lots of blogs, books and watching so many videos to raise it correctly. If you never had a dog, based on my humble experience, this breed isn't for you yet.

Very good advice. Similar experience here. I have had Dobermanns since I was a child and the Rotts are definitely a challenge, even for an experienced guardian dog breed owner. Rotts are specially stubborn, territorial and powerful. They can be delightful, but you must know your craft well and dedicate a lot of time to them.

I have a rottador, I get "what a lovely labrador". "He's got a bit more in him, Rotweiller". The faces, recoiling and general fear in the faces is laughable. Only two minutes before you wanted to stroke him, now you want to run for the hills. My boy is from working lines gun dog, has an amazing nose, has beautiful muscle mass and a great all round nature from training and guidance. But he's not scared to take on a challenging drunk to warn them off. He's a beautiful soul. I have certainly had to master being boss, confident and not emotionally charged when he's pushed boundaries in the house. But worth it.

In the video he said that Pitbulls and Rottweilers have the highest fatality rates. Could the reason be because they often get abused more than other breeds for security purposes and as a result attack people? I myself have a rottie pup.
@alexmartin-schael7556
@alexmartin-schael7556 11 месяцев назад
Abuse may be a cause, but most times it is because people do not know how to raise them. I have gotten serious bites from small breeds and the reason was that they were spoiled by their owners (allowing them to be dominant, possessive, etc.).

We have had her a few days using ur training tech. I won't lie I did forget how much work pups are and I'm fully commited. She's very placid but she does ignore my commands at times (stubborn) and doesn't play alot yet but I'm guessing that's her still settling in. I'm considering getting well bred rotty when I buy a house. As a single female, I prefer the natural guardian breeds. I owned a pit bull for 10 years, great dog, although not recognized as a true guardian breed - they sure do make good deterrents. I am used to the stigma, and have always taken training and socialization seriously. I also do so much research on modern training and nutrition. I am glad that videos like these are out there, some people really have no idea what they are getting in to.

Give her a toy that she can bite. Play thug with her where she can be allowed to pull. And work on teaching her that these are the only 2 times you can bite and pull. Make high-pitched yelps when/if she does bite. This is what her littermates do to let other puppies know they overstepped. Good luck :)

@@markbellew4194 well...I can tell you what I do. I bred German working line rotties for years and they were definitely a harder type. But because the Germans have rigid breeding standards, the dogs were mentally and physically sound. I still have a rottie as well as a boerbel. Littermates are aggressive with each other, especially during feeding time. After weaning at 8 weeks, I fed each pup individually and would touch pup while eating. They always growled at which point I picked pup up, put my hands around throat up to my eye level, looked them in eye and said NO loudly with a show of my teeth. Never had a growl again. So with yours even though an older pup I'd do the same when she bites you. Don't pet her or speak to her after you put her down. Give her the look if she tries to approach. Only when she's submissive, call her over and calmly give affection. Might take a few times since the biting is established. When you play with her, do not tolerate any biting of you. If NO and the look don't work, jerk her up again. This is a powerful technique, but you can't use it for every little thing. Much like spanking a child, if you do it all time loses it's deterrent power. So reserve it for dangerous behavior like biting. Make sure she's getting lots of exercise too. A tired dog is a happier dog. Imo if people don't have 15-20 minutes of dedicated time daily for dog, don't own one. Rotties are pretty easy to train as they're smart. But they can be stubborn and test you. They think they know best especially if owner is insecure or waffles. I've never had to swat a dog with a newspaper or anything. The look gets them belly crawling.
@markbellew4194

Love your channel, watching loads of your videos but you have definitely made me think twice about rescuing a 2 year old rottie cross German shepherd, apparently it’s a very friendly family pet but the owner now works away from home 5 months of the year and the dog either needs a long term foster parent or new forever home. My only real concern is my daughter, she is 20 years old but is autistic and has bpd and has a meltdowns regularly, (gets very upset and cry’s and sometimes screams) maybe once a week or so. Now I’m thinking maybe I should rethink my choice into fostering the dog or not, what are your thoughts?

I know someone who got a Rottweiler that has a few problems, her owner was pretty irresponsible imo because she’s not that experienced owning a dog and yet she bought a giant Rottweiler, the dog is very insecure and is always trying to dominate the other dogs especially if they get close and try to play with her owner, she’s very possessive over her owner and her toys, she’s even snapped at me once for trying to grab her squeaky toy, it’s a shame because her owner doesn’t recognize it, and Rottweilers are so smart so it can’t be that hard to train her, I’ve tried to tell her to help her dog change her behavior but I feel like she thinks it’s cute or funny when the dog gets possessive or idk why it’s very confusing, she’s just a horrible owner. the other dogs she lives with are all smaller than her, she’s already attacked some of the other dogs and it’s very frustrating, some people should not own a powerful breed like this if they’re irresponsible or don’t have some experience with dogs
