Bumper Action Amusements Australia was a well documented pre order company failure before Skit B, At least in Modern times. They owed close to 80 WOZ machines from JJP. Luckily Jack came good and got people their pinabll machines.

The problem is that you have new businesses trying to follow an established business model and they don’t start on the right foot with investments and loans. Instead, they try and start with nothing and end up building a pyramid scheme.

Very interesting subject Tom. The problem is that most companies that went bankrupt thought that producing games was an easy task and that they could do better than the one and only remaining company in the early 2000s, Stern Pinball. Even for JJP, if he had not had financial backing at the right time, the company would have folded like so many others. Marketing and producing are two different ball games and producing is far from being the easiest one as experience has shown. With the revival of pinball, a lot of entrepreneurs, or wannabe entrepreneurs, identified a demand, and like in many businesses only the fittest (most funded in that case) will survive. The only time I put a deposit on something that was not "manufactured" yet was the Kickstarter project "Keeping the Ball Alive" book. 🤣

I feel like the logistics of Pinball Manufacturing are incredibly hard. Rolling out new engineering design, software, hardware, and brand deals on a somewhat regular cadence to produce to a relatively niche consumer (can afford machines and willing to spend on them) is tough. I feel as if the market is already saturated with the big ~4, and they subsequently will take big financial hits if/when their new games don’t do well. A hard reality for a hobby that fosters so much passion; as I’m sure many players would love to go on and design their own machine.

I've seen Spooky on location for 6mo-1yr. Never seen it down for any major service. From what I've read a lot of connector issues in the past that they fixed so that things stay connected.

No preorders for me. We are willing to put down a deposit when needed, but only because we know Zach has our back. We did it with Labyrinth. Did the same thing with TBL, but only after Cointaker said they would refund the deposit if the company didn't follow through. I get the excitement, but pinball machines are $$$, and you have to be careful. Great video, and hopefully, people proceed with caution.

I suspect that a good portion of people who engage in pre-orders are ignorant of what they are participating in and/or lack the integrity to accept the consequences. Best to teach them the terms they were/are engaging in for each manufacturer.

I wouldn’t even get a nib anymore as it’s complete Russian roulette on what’s inside especially the playfield. I just buy demo models that I can inspect

Lowered his valuation from 1M to 700k overnight. If he doesn't get enough pre-orders, then it's not worth it to stay in business if you aren't getting out of it what you want. He wanted 1M, at best maybe he has 50 pre-orders. Thats 350k gross, on top of costs for a many person team, massive R&D costs, that doesnt account for the cost of materials per game either. We will see. Supposed to start shipping in a couple months.

The whole point of the video is to caution buyers of new pinball companies that do not have a proven track record. These companies can dissolve before a single game is produced. Do any of those concerns apply to Stern? No, no they do not. There isn't any concern when you order a Stern pinball that you won't receive the pinball machine.
