If you're thinking of buying a cheap head gasket just to save money, today i'm going to show you why this is a bad idea. Buy the quality parts and do the job properly the first time!
oooohh... glad i hung around for the last 10-15 seconds of the vid :) cant wait! bought gasket set when i first bought my paseo, now im thinking i might wanna get some diff ones haha
thanks for all your videos man!!!!!!!! please keep them up forever. if you want, could you make a video on how to do the correct timing, when replacing the timing belt? i am unsure about screwing the timing up when changing a belt. it would be the first time i do that, so i would really want to see and know how i can be certain. also 4efe thanks for your videos
literally just put my turbo 4EFE back together, there is a notch on the crank pulley, line it up with the 0. then you line up the timing marks on BOTH camshaft gears. turn the cam sprocket until the 4E hole lines up with the dot mark on the head. then put your timing belt on and you’re good to go !
Hi, Matt ,would you recommend using copper spray on the head gasket before installing,or any other gasket sealant or nothing at all? I heard different opinion about this. Thanks ,..love your videos..cheers
Hi Matt, I’m doing an engine rebuild on my starlet in the next week or so. I’ve already bought everything, as well as a JAPKO engine gasket kit. They are about £80 so $108. Should this be alright? Thankyou.
Hi ime from south Africa do you replace the head bolts or re use the old ones my setup is making about 153kw and 289nm wat is the beat head gasket as we dont have a lot of parts here for the 4efte setups
Check out my other videos, all explained. Stock head bolts are good for about 250hp and arp bolts are good for about 300 hp as long as you dont get any detonation. If you do it will left the head straight away. Next option is to fit the 4age oversized head studs. Problem solved
The dreaded cheap gaskets! 😭 They legit last 2 weeks and just give up, they might as well be sold in a prank store. Love the detail you go into showing where the gasket design is flawed I never noticed. My daily driver (never touched the engine since buying it) started making a knocking noise one day back in 2016/17 and I parked it, the bearings looked fine and it had me puzzled... I never took the head off to rebuild it since the head bolts looked/felt like they were torqued with an Allen key and stripped. Now I'm really curious curious. Would be hilarious if it's just the headgasket, I miss driving a stock starlet daily. 😆
Just having a chat over headgaskets with another 5EFHE owner and we've noticed there's a lot more holes in the block than there are on the OEM and Cometic head gaskets, I'm trusting that Toyota know what they're doing, but we've also seen gaskets that have a lot more holes for the water, whats the deal there?
Yeah you’re not wrong. We thing cylinder 3 and 4 is getting hot so we want to try add a couple extra holes in number 4 to get the coolant flowing. Will be interesting to see what happens
Always love your videos mate, so informative and raw. I love the fact you just sped up you taking off the head in like what 30 mins?? not even?? hahaha
Oi Matt, that's Fkn Sick! Here's a mystery for you...my stock 4efe has 200,000km on it and was using 1L oil every 1,000km bit of a pain in the arse...then 2 weeks ago I got a 3 inch exhaust fitted with sports cat, zero restriction and backpressure, loud AF... presto I've done over 1,200km and no oil consumption...oil levels the same...what's changed or different that there no longer any oil consumption? Can you solve this for us?
Hey Matt, very informative channel which has inspired me to turbo my 98 corolla with 4efe engine. Is it possible to skim the pistons to remove the raised area to lower compression? 4efte pistons are scarce. Keep the vids coming, cheers.
I'm about to do a rebuild on my engine and i'm thinking of using a cometic 1.2mm with the arp bolts i already have. By your experience would that be a good choice?
Yeah i wouldnt worry man. The only reason that engine would be lifting the head with a ct9 is detonation. The higher boost you can run depends on the quality of fuel you use and the air temperatures.
