Great advice. Piano playing is mental and physical. Mental you have remember theory and physical making your fingers work. I’m learning and 77 years old, both my brain and fingers are stuck in second gear. I enjoy playing but don’t know about improving. Great channel. Thank you.

It's not surprising but incredible how this video has fewer views, compared to the "3 chords you should know as a beginer !" which has 2M. People hate having the truth in front of their nose and would rather play 3 chords during entire life to show off to non piano playing friends. Thank you for this video btw

Question: When I learn some new lick or progression, do I need to learn it in every other key? This is super helpful but also really tedious and time consuming. Should I just pick a few keys and learn it in those?

I’d definitely learn it in at least 2-3 keys and then practice integrating it into stuff you can already play

I'm thinking about joining your course but honestly I scared to death!!!! I am a fairly good portrait artist but music is my absolute passion i love jazz and neo soul stuff and I can't seem to pick up playing as easily as I did drawing and its killing me ..I'm not scared of your course but of me failing I know that sounds stupid

I can relate. What helps me is to always remember my love of jazz and the joy it brings me. Let that joy drown out your fears. If you're working on something you love, you've kind of already won. Just hold onto that feeling and do the work.

Ouch! I think I've got all four of those problems. But the shiny objects one is probably the worst. There is no 'stickability' in my learning - the curse of RU-vid. Gotta go now - have just seen a new video to watch. (joking). Thanks for the advice - I'll try to take it on board.

This has been my question. Exactly what is useful practice? Playing scales and exercises or can you learn a piece pretty well then start another, say every week or two? Am I missing out by not playing exercises? Thanks to anyone who has advice.

How long you have to practice each day minimum to get better? I mean finger exercises to improve my finger strength and independency

You'll improve in complete correlation with how much time you practice. If you practice 5 mins a day, you'll get better. But if you want to see noticeable, meaningful improvement - I'd aim for at least 1 hour a day. I wouldn't spend much more than 20 minutes a day doing finger exercises

Sometimes you need a title like this to ROCK someone a little bit into checking out the video... If you beat around the bush, and be super gentle, like, oh , hey there, do you have some time, would you like to get better at piano. It just ISNT gunna hit the same! Also, i feel like Most people have negative self talk, that probably, tells them, that "they suck at piano" ...so for a video to call it out, is a way for you to say, HEY, maybe i can finally figure this out, and stop myself from having these thoughts!
