I took a tour of Alcatraz back in October right after I had returned from a tour of the Philippines which included the history of the Bataan Death March and the ordeal that all the Prisoners of War (POWs) endured at the hands of the Japanese soldiers. I thought that Alcatraz was pretty grim, but it was a paradise compared to the Japanese POW camps.

As someone who's antisocial with serious OCD those rules seem super easy to live with

i remember going to Alcatraz when i was 8, i got lost whilst wandering round, it was so cool though. you could see the real cells of the people that escaped!!! In my opinion, it is a ‘go to’ thing on your bucket list🤩

If you are in San Francisco I highly recommend visiting Alcatraz on their night tour...although try to go during fair weather because my group got "trapped" until 2am on the island

I actually went to Alcatraz and there was a sign on the wall that said , “Break the rules and you go to prison. Break the prison rules and you go to Alcatraz.” Of course it’s a tourist attraction now and it’s very interesting. But very hard to book. I would’ve gone when I was 5 if it wasn’t that hard to book

The silence rule only lasted for the first few years. I've visited Alcatraz a number of times, but I've also visited Yuma Prison. Alcatraz was a walk in the park compared to Yuma.

Funny enough, my school was structured very similarly to this. I got suspended to OSS for one school year, and while I was there we weren't allowed to speak, our lessons we had to read to ourselves out of a book with no teacher, and we had one hour of recreational time outside where we had to silently walk a track without being more than five feet apart. When we got onto our school bus at FIVE IN THE MORNING, we couldn't talk at all. Once we got off the bus, we were searched and had to go through a metal detector. Walking through the halls, we weren't allowed to be more than an arms-length of one another and while we ate the food we couldn't talk and had to have our heads down once we finished. All in all, would go again.
