Especially the first week of term. You're forced to park in the grass because of no available parking spaces. Then you're greeted by a campus parking ticket that you have to pay. It's another way for the college to make money :( I learned to come an hour early after that. Many students complained about it, but after 15 years since I was there they still haven't expanded the parking lots, even though there is room for expansion.
Nah they have them, they just cost $10 an hour, and another 15 to ride the shuttle to school because they are so far. Seriously colleges in my area seem to model themselves after the Airport.
he has no population. That is because all his money is coming from industry areas. Way better when you get a higher population and make a ton from tax income
Tip: Highways or roadways with noise barriers will cancel all noises from motor vehicles, especially if elevated section or interchange, Sir Biffa. Anyways, as an engineering student, I'll going to apply all the fixes into real-life city plans at the expense of the city funding (upon mayor's approval).
Gonna be interesting to see your real life integration of Biffas "Hugo" theories, his lane mathematics, all those 3->2->3->4 lane roads after each other :)
@@bazzakrak Parts of Newcastle upon Tyne have lane mathematics applied Biffa style. It's great to drive on if you know where you're going. If you're slightly unsure it could be confusing but that's just down to signage.
@@bazzakrak i've been paying attention to that a lot lately, and it feels to me like a lot of places already have that, or at least a properly set up lane of like, 20-30 meters where you can go if you want to turn, without stopping traffic going trough. Biffa made me look at traffic in a different way, that's really cool!
Plus lane mathematics and management [e.g. 3 (2 + 1 exit only) -> 2 -> 3 or 3 -> 4 (3 + 1 exit only) within 500m -> 3 -> 4 (3 + 1 accelerated to merge) within 500m -> 3]. No swerving must be implemented via double white/yellow lines with corresponding penalties for errant drivers.
I was under the impression that all elevated highways were the same, there was no difference between the soundproofed and non soundproofed as soon as it became elevated.
Yeah really! Gotta love it when you are doing good things for people and the people notice then begin to use the good things you've given them. Always a good feeling. Also this is new news to me about parking lots. This would explain certain things about my own Cities Skylines issues.
Since I found your cities gameplay you have helped me with traffic manager a lot! And I have to say you do help me mentally. When I’m feeling down I turn on your videos and it helps me forget a little of what has been going on in my personal life. Thank you for everything!
I bought this game a couple of months ago after watching some of your highly amusing vids! I'm working on a pretty vanilla city and I will be sending it in for you to have a look and to work your beautification magic on it! I think you will be impressed with the roads and it is all down to you!!! I'm sure you will check them though as you can't resist! HAHA! Love your vids, you're a funny guy :D
Hi, I bought the Deluxe edition for 30 quid as I wasn't going to pay the £109 for all the DLC's ! It is highly addictive but there is something very satisfying watching a perfect flow of traffic around a 'Timboh Turbine' hahahaha. Well worth it. Watch Biffa's vids as they are a great help! Happy building 😁
Buildings needing nearby services to upgrade, even though they are covered has always annoyed me. It basically means your almost always better off having two of the smaller police stations or fire houses in two separate locations, over having one big one.
Best Skylines I’ve watched on RU-vid! No waffling, straight to the point. It’s a shame how the camera doesn’t focus in on all the small detail to know what you’re referring to. Deffo going to get this ✌️
I thought I was subscribed since I get all new videos in my recommendation section on RU-vid mere minutes after they get uploaded. Anyway, just subbed =)
17:20 Not Enough Workers - there's a big passenger station right there! oh, there's no good way to walk to the industrial area from the station? Biffa, add pedestrian/bicycle connections at the ends of all those dead end streets! and maybe a raised walkway to the big station?
I bought C:S because of your city fix videos! Subscribing to your channel was a no-brainer when I noticed your care and attention to every video, and how relaxing your content is. Thanks for sharing your work with us! I also enjoy how you mostly play the game without major mods. Some other C:S youtubers lay down building by building and create some gigantic cities with thousands of custom structures and systems, which makes it difficult for me to connect with the gameplay. Making it simple and straightforward as you do is a godsend for players like me who are still learning the basics.
Pretty sure when you get that “build sound” occasionally, it’s your auto bulldoze. So a building gets bulldozed and then you get those little smileys from your people from the deserted building going away.
Biffa I love your content! I REALLY like these "Troubleshooting/Explanation" videos. Every time you point something out like "what do the red buildings mean?" I'm like, "OOOOOHHH... I had no idea! Thank you so much!" PLEASE keep making these types of videos.
I did some of this before watching last night where around 10 minutes in you where talking about adding services to an area that didn't have any of them such as schools, health, fire, and police. It was definitely a gratifying thing listening to all those pings as a mass upgrade and boom of growth happened.
In addition to adding water in the center of roundabouts, you could zone them as park areas (if you have the Park life DLC), which will further increase land values. Once they are zoned as park area, you can also put in park entrance or side entrances where walkways meet up with sidewalks/roads to bring in some additional income, sort of like pedestrian tollbooths.
I'm subbed and have the bell for all notifications. I've been trying to play cities skylines on and off for years. Biffa, you're the guy who taught me how to fix frustrations and how to play the game basically. Can't get enough of your vids and this game.
Poured myself another cup of tea and subbed up. I wasn't aware that red buildings meant not enuff parking either. Like your Cities vids Biff, keep up the good work.
Thank you for fixing the trees in the sports arenas! I've been quietly hoping you'd take care of it off-camera, as it seems like a silly criticism to waste your time addressing... but it looks much better now! I love the cities you make. Good luck on the 500,000 subs!
26:30 There is a good parking garage mod I use! It has 3 different sizes and they work pretty well. :) Here's the author's page. There's a small, medium, and large garage. I think they look good in an urban area. Look on pages 7, 8, and 9. That's where the garages are. steamcommunity.com/id/GCVos/myworkshopfiles?appid=255710
I'm generally very bad at subscribing to channels. I use the search bar to find videos I want to watch and even if I watch a lot of videos from the same channel, I often forget to subscribe to not only find the channel easier but to help that channel itself grow. I play Cities: Skylines here and there and your videos have helped me manage my traffic even more! Here's a sub to you!
Your content is practically the Paradox Wiki but better explained and with video examples. I always learn something. The parking aspect of traffic manager was great. Nice job as usual! (Liked and subscribed BTW)
Hey Biffa , I stumbled upon your channel probably half a year ago while being sick at home and bored to death. Enjoyed it a lot. I still enjoy the City Skyline videos once in a while and always leave a like as I view it as a RU-vid currency and apply the same logic to every video I watch and enjoy. I'm subscribed to like 30-40 channels of which just 5-10 make daily/bi-daily videos. Probably the same amount makes weekly videos, but rest of them have occasionally new videos. The thing is - I value my time and subscribe to channels that have Added Value to them - technical news, self-growth, etc. This might be the case with other viewers as well. Since - having your videos in my subscription feed might make me feel bad when I'm not watching them and on the other hand - I always have your videos on the Recommended list and watch them whenever I have some spare time. So what was the point I was trying to get across - I appreciate the time you spend to make these videos (and other RU-vidrs I'm not subscribed as well) and I do it by pressing the Like button. But the idea of you or any other RU-vidr underlining it and making it sound obligatory to subscribe kinda kills the vibe. Still, all the best wishes.
Yes, this is correct, if you already have a park or industrial area of that type leveled up, or if you have turned the lvl up notifications off. Also, if your are accidentally close enough at the very moment it levels up, you'll here a little old school alarm clock type sound along with the plop sound.
If you notice down at the bottom right of the screen the little crane from bulldoze It(?) changes from 0-1. Pretty sure it was a building being automatically rebuilt after it was destroyed.
Recently got my 85k city to 85/90% traffic, which is awesome, and your advice really helped. I also drained a section of lake and diverted a river to make more dry land so the city fits in just 6 dense squares and my citizens enjoy the view of a gigantic dam separating them from certain doom.
Really enjoyed this. I love the traffic videos but these videos that go over the mechanicals of a properly operating city are great. I appreciate that a well made city like yours still showed faults that you were able to address in the video. Cheers
Biffa, still love your videos. When I was talking about the one way train tracks in your last video I meant only going out of your station. That will keep things from being imported. Conversely you can do the opposite too and have only trains coming in. They magically appear / disappear. Its kind of fun actually.
When I searched for "Parking Lot" in the workshop, there are hundreds of things and none of those at the top is the mod you used. Do you have a link to it? Thanks.
niccolom look in the description at his list of mods it’s like parking lot roads Or something like that. Also when I search for something in the workshop, I generally make sure it’s sorted by top rated, or most subscribed, then I usually get what I’m looking for.
With that small industry area you made (around the 15:30 mark), there's no real way for the businesses to go straight to the cargo terminal, which would force trucks to leave the little area, then turn around elsewhere (like on the roundabout in the Park District) and come back (and create traffic). It's the same sort of principle for giving people highway access or access to other parts/sections of the city: you want to give vehicles quick/easy access to certain points around your city so they use the roads as little as possible. That is of course if you never use the bit of road going over the river for anything else. What I usually try to do with regular, unzoned industry is either zone the buildings along the cargosnake to the terminal (so the building can spawn the truck and have it go straight to the terminal), or have a quick and easy way for the trucks to drive to the terminal while being on roads as little as possible.
Very interesting, and helpful as always! I use Biffa's suggestions and it all really works. When I have bad traffic I follow all Biffa's suggestions and it works! Thanks Biffa!
I believe that random noise like something is being placed that you questioned is industrial areas upgrading to the next star rating. At least that's what I've taken it to mean aha. Great video as always. So interesting and helpful. Keep up the great work!
Sorry Biffa. Didn't realized I wasn't subscribed. Your videos show up in my recommended list all the time and I enjoy them. Thanks for the content, the tips, and the occasional inspiration. Consider me a part of the subscribers pack now.
2:20 TMPE has this option for lane wise speed limits. If you set your inner lanes to a faster speed, wouldn't the trucks that are passing use the inner lane and those entering the farm/industry use the outer lanes?
my commercial zones were constantly complaining about lack of goods to sell but i had zero demand for industry. couldn’t figure it out until i added a cargo depot harbor thing and had trains running cargo into the city. they all hit went from lvl 1 and anger to lvl 3 and so happy.
Hey Biffa. What a great informative video! I'm currently working up the Kerrisdale Bay map that you did a while back. Need to give my industry a shake up!
@@BiffaPlaysCitiesSkylines /me is the "shortcut" in SecondLife to type a line in chat that's called emoting! All it does is miss out the punctuation eg - 12:15 Dusty Miller : Hello everyone 12:16 Dust Miller wonders why nobody answers. [ Achieved by typing /me wonders why... ] Now you know. Lol
I subbed a while ago. Hell, I bought the game because of you. I don't always like the videos mainly because of some of the city fixes are redundant. I do enjoy your building of Teaville, this has been a really good series so far, even with all the trolling of the round-a-bounds.
You know what is more nuts than 57% of viewers not subscribed. I am subscribed and have never played this game, I just find the video entertaining and in a weird way relaxing.
17:20 a tiny walking path from the industry area to Valley Hills would help here i think.. its basically a stone throw away.. but without that they have to use cars to get to work. Could also make a bridge over the railways and connect a path between industry and Park District.
I can say proudly , that I subscribed after a few videos, and then, back to them just to hit the like! Enjoying your enthusiasm and excitement! Thanks for all the tips and tricks of this lovely game!
I don't play the game, but watching your videos is having an influence on me. Will buy the game soon. Your videos are helpful a lot and lovely to watch, clear voice and easy to understand the content. Thanks
Hey Biffa, quick tip I learned with industrial traffic: if you have industry on either side of a small width road, they'll usually stop at their destination and block the trucks behind them. The way you fix this, is use the dense four lane road (like you did in the farm area), but TURN OFF the lane arrows on the outer lanes at either end. They will be forced to use the inner two lanes if they want to leave, which puts all of the traffic in those two lanes, allowing the trucks to move to an outer lane to stop at their destination, so they don't block the through traffic. As you know, it's rare that you actually need tons of lanes, so you should be safe to force them into two lanes, since no (or at least far fewer) trucks will stop the flow of traffic.
Absolutely loving this series so far! Love the titles of your videos, very descriptive and helpful. Love how you focus on one area but not on one thing and you fix things as they come up! Looking forward to seeing that nature reserve on Earl Grey Isle!
The like and subscribe issue, for me, is mostly due to watching in full screen and there is no easy way to like a video while watching it on anything but a phone.I am subscribed tho lol
You have great playlists. It's easy to forget likes on a playlist. Without assuming people are watching in a playlist you can say *"before you watch the next video, make sure you like this one (so RU-vid shows it to more people)."*
Dude, I started playing a bit of CS a bit lately and found a few of your videos. That 57% stat in the middle of the video made me laugh. You know what? I'll sub just for that.
I don’t normally like videos, but I’m making an exception for Biffa because his content is great. I love his enthusiasm for helping the community learn to be better Mayors. May the gods provide only the finest teas to you, good sir.
I subbed Biffa. You do a nice job and I have probably only subbed a half dozen or so youtubers in my life. I really like you and Move the Mouse. You're my 2 favorite Cities Skyliners on the web. Keep up the good work!
Hi and thank you. I played this game then it was released, back then I was drunk and it didin't worked out, I got so mad and quit. Today it's 1 month I'm watching your videos I like how you explain, now I learned in your videos what should I do, people creating stuff that's intriguing to play again, Thank you once more you doing great job. Sip of tea and let's start building! You got a subscriber!
something to keep in mind with your yt numbers there, people on mobile may be less inclined to be signed into their account while viewing your video. while not signed in to a yt account a viewer would not show up as a subscriber nor can they like the video, you need to be signed in to do that. i don’t normally watch yt on mobile but i let my young daughter use it to watch kids vids but its never signed in. also, we have a “smart tv” (way tooo smart if you ask me) but i do occasionally watch your vids through the tv and i do not sign into my account when i do that. i just prefer to not be tracked on every single platform i use. keep up the good work and thanks for the entertainment!
FWIW, I tend to take my lane mathematics all the way to set up my lanes on highway interchanges the same way you do on your arterial main roads and I find that flows best. For example, with a 4-way interchange, I'll have 3-lane highway going in and out, with one lane for each direction (left, right, straight). So yeah, my through traffic ends up down to one lane. You could widen to a 6-lane leading up to the interchange so you can have 2 lanes each direction, but I've found it isn't necessary. In practice, it tends to be a net loss in throughput because of the merge points when you bring it back down to 3 lanes leaving the junction. For a 3-way interchange, whichever direction has more traffic gets the 2-lane and the remaining lane goes to the remaining direction.
Great tips in this one! I would like to see a video on how to add/manage water. Every time I try to add water in I cause massive flooding and end up starting over again.
Hey Biff, A lot of people don't interact with RU-vid or other social media in the way they're intended. If someone watches your vids (like me, I love em. Like and subbed
Saw someone else say "autosave, sip of tea is when I like the video". I like the videos, but sometimes forget to click like. Just a fun reminder in the beginning or middle would help you with that. I think you mentioned it was a significant difference between you saying it and not saying it. As always: fun, educational, fun and fluffy video Biffa! 😊
That "Plunk" sound is the game automatically replopping something, at least sometimes. First time I noticed it was with a tsunami that annihilated an oil industry island.... the (onshore portion of the ) offshore rigs as well as the cargo hub replopped to be above the wave, which of course caused "minor issues" once the water receded and the actual roads and tracks became relevant again..... It´s generally a good Idea to take a quick look at your ploppable buildings for inconsistencies when you hear it. At least on Maps where you've noticed significant water level swellls like on "dustbowl", or if you have disasters activated . It´s usually harmless, but every so often a floating cafe becomes a flying one, haha
I cant frcn believe that someone who make 100% of videos content by him self, edit videos super good, upload regularly, have problems reaching 1m subscribers.. yet someone doin damn reaction videos get there in no time.. biffa, my friend, i feel your pain.. n i hope you get respect and money worth for your effort..
I hate watching people play games. But for some reason RU-vid has had me watching you for a couple months now. Subscribed. I’ve never even played this game
Subscribed, loving these videos :) I'm afraid its just how the algorithm works, youtube just shows you the content you seem to be interested in. Didn't even realize I wasn't subscribed because your videos were all up in my feed :P Go for 500k!
On a serious note, I'd really like to know more from you about how to zone properly. I can never figure out the right... saturation, of residential, commercial, industry. When you said Offices can block noise pollution... it blew my mind.
It's been ages since I've played CS and I needed to refresh my memory on game play and ideas ... I came looking for you Biffa from 12 months ago 👋 you crack me up 😂 ... I have subbed and liked. Love your humour 😁 and appreciate your info 👍
