You are right about the disease and the throw it away, but Asters Yellows effects over 300 types of plants, mainly aster leaf-hoppers spread it, and it is every where. Treat for those guys on the plants you really care about. It hits my Rebecka's real hard too. Just depends on the year too, They come up from the south on the winds.

Yep, unfortunately any aster family plant is vulnerable. I haven't seen it in a while (since I did this video) but I'm always on the lookout for it.

Can you replant a coneflower in the same spot? Or the roots are also contaminated and may affect a new plant?

I believe you can. I have had plants come up from seed in the same location and not display any of the same problems.
