As a licensed cosmetologist of more than 20 years, and a cosmetology instructor, I frequently see clients with scalp issues resulting in flakes. Often, people seem to think all flakes are dandruff, and that's not always the case. In some instances, it can be dry scalp, sebhorreic dermatitis, psoriasis, or eczema. Each of those conditions should be treated differently, and often, treating them incorrectly can cause conditions to worse. Hopefully this video arms you with information so you know what to do, or when to seek medical assistance.
If this video proved helpful to you, please let me know in the comments!
Take care, God Bless, and stay Glam,
I know I love you boo!

@GetGlamFam Hi. Could you share which braids are best for someone with Seborrhoeic dermatitis and maybe eczema?
@ravenrose6672
@ravenrose6672 6 месяцев назад
I was diagnosed with Seborrheic Dermatitis last year. They put me on Ketoconazole but that doesn't work for me so I use Rosemary and Mint shampoo. I also have burning scalp, which I cannot tell you how extremely painful it is. This along with Alopecia I did not develop until about 5 months after I recovered from Covid. Thank you for your videos.
@GetGlamFam
@GetGlamFam 6 месяцев назад
For scalp conditions, I would say either cornrows, or singles. The key is keeping the scalp clean on a regular to minimize irritation.
@GetGlamFam
@GetGlamFam 6 месяцев назад
Be sure to avoid oil on the scalp @ravenrose6672 and I can definitely understand aspects of thinning/alopecia after Covid. That can happen anytime the body goes through something traumatic. Make sure you are getting your nutrients from healthy foods, if that’s not possible, chat with your Dr about nutritional supplements they would approve of. Diet can also play a huge role in hair loss.

I wanted to come back and say thank you for the Royal Oils recommendation. It is JUST what I needed. I had gotten where I wasn’t making it to wash day without severe itching and flakes and even after washing I was still seeing falling flakes. This cleared it very well and I’m sure with continued use it will only get better. You are a Godsend!

Another possibility for the oatmeal-type flakes is CCCA, and again you need to see a dermatologist especially if the flaking is accompanied by firey itch, soreness, scabs, and or heavy shedding. This was not boring at all it was much need information!

Linwood, this was really informative and so well presented! The teacher in you really showed through; I hope your students realise how lucky they are. I found your channel some 6-7 hours ago with a YT suggestion for your how to care for grey hair and I've been binge- watching ever since. You are the only professional I've ever seen to make a distinction between grey and white hair! I've seen/heard/read "curly hair needs moisture!!!", "grey/white hair is coarse and dry and needs all the moisture you can give it!!!" so often that I was starting to believe it... Trouble is, as a caucasian wavy/curly redhead who has been going white (redheads don't seem to go grey, we go directly to no pigment white) since my early 20's, I couldn't relate what everyone said to what I felt. My white hair is fine, soft and won't hold the curls like my red hair did. I stopped colouring my hair 6 years ago and now I'm about 60% white. I'm in my early 50's so my once dense hair is also thinning all over thanks to menopause. I kept throwing moisturisers at it and I now think the only thing that saved me from hygral fatigue is that my hair is pretty low porosity... You've given me things to think about and I will be going forward with a new understanding of what's happening on my head! Hopefully I can get some curls back because this limp, somewhat wavy but volume-less look is not for me. 😢 Thank you!

That royal oils line by from head and shoulders is the truth along with the conditioner. I also got ketoconazole at 2% from my son doctor. Never put oil on his scalp cause it's feeding the yeast. I always don't put heat to his hair/scalp. I spray witch hazel after twisting and cutting his hair. Listen to his advice if you want help. ❤❤❤❤❤ Not boring at all.

I am giving my hair a break from relaxers. When you mentioned the chemical burns ever after you apply base cream on the scalp still burns, I have been there. They left horrible scabs on my scalp and I was losing hair. Its been a few weeks and I noticed my edges are slowly growing back, I drink more water, and I wash my hair every sunday and give myself a roller set. I saw a huge improvement. This was helpful and informative. Thank you for educating us on this subject.

Jojoba oil works amazing for all scalp conditions. Many dandruff shampoos w tar cause the cuticle layer to lay flat and when you quit using the scalp condition is worse. My brother and nephew had this issue and just after using jojoba oil for a few days their scalp was all better.
@GetGlamFam
@GetGlamFam 6 месяцев назад
Jojoba oil can be helpful in many cases. Not in the case of seborrheic dermatitis though, excess oil is the issue in that instance.

You give out information in such a great way. I get dry scalp flakes, waxy dandruff and those larger than oat -I've peeled a "flake" off my curly hair with a fine comb that had all the holes for where the hairs were all growing through it- style pieces. Currently it's all under control because I'm on an immune suppressant for something else but I'm ready with the witch hazel and need to get the royal oils for when I come off it to try to keep it from getting to where it was. It's not something I'd believe my doctors to be knowledgeable about, where I live we only visit if you have had a major issue for a week and it was an emergency yesterday, I don't think they know about things that don't meet that category.

I stopped using the only different/new product my relaxer technician was using and a MERICAL happened lol, no more flakes or terrible itching. There are studies that show its link to cancer but I couldn’t find any significant data to support that. Do you think it’s the lye and no lye relaxers are better? @GlamFam Thank you so much for the info! Can I get any of the Thayer's or does it have to be the Lemon one linked? I see Target has 12 different ones and my 13yr old son hates anything scented but has scabs and flakes from scratching that I believe is from the gels someone used trying to lock his hair. I never put anything but natural oils, shampoo, and water in his hair so his scalp isn't used to alcohol based or heavily scented products. He would literally throw tantrums and swore it smelled horrible back when I would put coconut oil(the food grade type)in his hair or the lotion on his body.

Thank you! I believe I have Seborrheic dermatitis. I have a dermatology appointment but they're booked until May! Headed to Walmart/Target to get me some Thayers! While looking online all I'm finding is face toner is that the same?

Whew!! You did your big one with this, the oats are a perfect representation of seborrheic dermatitis. I struggle with seborrheic dermatitis. I was diagnosed by a dermatologist years ago. I get it behind my ears as well. Seborrheic dermatitis is one of reasons I stop getting relaxers. The problem is the medicated shampoo dries out my hair, any tips for replacing the moisture. I am already dealing with hair that won't absorb product , gel, creams, etc. Every stylist just charges me for a curly cut and offers no advice!

This is why I can't oil or grease my scalp. It will itch and become irritated. I have seborrheic dermatitis, especially in the back. The witch hazel does work.

Aloe treatments are superb for dry, excema and/ seborrheic dermititis scalp ! 1.Scoop the aloe gel from aloe leaf with spoon(faster and easier). After youve peel skin from one side of aloe. 2. Put in blender. Add nothing to it. Blend to liquid. 3. Strain it (to avoid difficult to remove aloe pieces from hair.) - I use a nylon nut milk bag to strain for efficient results. No more stockings(too time consuming). 4. Add to hair/scalp from root to tip. Drench hair and scalp with aloe. Can be applied to wet hair or dry hair. 5.Put on a shower cap, let soak for for 30min to 1 hour. - I discovered byvtrisl that he longer the soak, the longer scalp remains squeaky clean between wash days even with applying hair moiturizers. 6. Wash hair+ scalp with the same aloe soak! Or rinse out and use a fresh batch if thats necessary for your scalp. I wash my hair with the same aloe thats been soaking, it gets mildy sudsy (naturually). It removes build up, flakes, odor, and adds moisture and shine with a consistent routine. It is a natural cleanser, moisturizer, exfoliater, is antifngal, antibacterial, plus stimulates hair growth. 4. Repeat step every 1-2 weeks and watch scalp remain dandruff/ flake free, if caused by excema, dryness or seborrheic dermititis. Must maintain routine to see results. For Psoriasis = I do not know. I have excema/ seborheicc dermatitis, a type of excema. Aloe is also good for face for xlesnsing, for smaller pores, clearing acne and black marks from acne + moisturizes. Aloe is also very good for digestice system/gut health etc. Does not taste good. Hold nose, chew and swallow or blend chug, dont taste, wash down with fresh sweet fruit. Or add to smoothies.
