Tips: 1. Make sure hair stays well moisturised 2. Avoid heat on hair 3. Trim hair only as needed 4. Don't put heat on dirty hair 5. Don't overlap on chemicals (eg relaxer & bleaching) 6. Alternate the positions you wear your ponytail 7. Don't use ponytail holder with metal clasp 8. Don't use manilla rubber bands 9. Sleep on satin or silk (satin bonnet, pillowcase, sheets) 10. Treat hair with TLC (comb gently working from ends to root) I'm guilty of wearing those rubber bands....Can't wait to hear the other tips!
Thanks. I'm guilty of not wearing satin scarves and bonnets to bed, but I got a satin lined beanie that works better for me and some satin pillowcases. I also need to be better about detangling my hair. I'm not through enough and I get a lot of knots.
using satin or silk ponytail holder is a way better option AND AND AND put conditioner on the hair before you take down any styles down so you get to detangle and condition at the same time. THAT saves a lot of time :)
moisture, moisture, moisture is my favorite it helped me from my hair breakage n combing correctly / detangling gentle..... my hair seem to grow since I practiced these 2 things
That was so much information that was REALLY needed for me to hear. I have all girls and we are all mixed babies of color. African Spanish native American and Caucasian. Very beautifully mixed. It's hard yo keep moisture in all our hair we live in nm. Very very different elements go on here. Thank you very very much
Respectfully, I am confused about your delineation between Spanish and Caucasian. Spanish refers to the White people from Spain and their language. They colonized the Native Indians in the New World and forced their language(Spanish)on them. I felt the need for a history lesson to clarify. Blessings to you and your babies.
Do you have any tips for keeping hair and scalp moisturized if you also have health conditions that cause dry skin? I have diabetes and I struggle with dry skin.
I just started watching your videos. Most of the things you said I've tried to tell my daighter but of course she does her own thing. I'm gonna turn her on to your videos, maybe she will listen to you. You make mad sense, thanks for the videos ,, very helpful and informative.

Love yr videos. You are very PROFESSIONALLY INFORMATIVE AND PRECISE. NOT ALL THE LONG DRAWN OUT BAVELING ON AN ON. THANK YOU CAN U DO MORE VIDEOS FOR NATURAL CURLY FINE HAIR. I DID THE POROSITY TEST STRAIN AN MY HAIR AFTER WASHING IT W SHAMPOO SANKED STRAIGHT TO THE BOTTOM.
Also sir, can you do a video for us older ladies concerning safely coloring fine, grey and black hair. I keep using a golden brown box color by clairrol or Revlon that keeps turning my grey hair orangey gold. I want a warmer cast at the scalp . Like a demensional Caramel. , Brown or Chocolate at the roots because my hair is thin and fine. I used a clairol demensional creme but it did not take well.
Amen!. I need all of his products. Just discover him & trying to see all of his hair VIDEOS IN 1 NIGHT.LOL. HE IS WONDERFUL. HELLO OPRAH .HE WILL BE ONE OF YOUR FAVORITE THINGS. LOL. grace to all. gail hopkins
Nobody Cares I use to be until I went natural. I feel your pain. Part of the reason I decided to. It was just to easy when my hair was relaxed to through this stuff up into a ponytail
My number one solution for breakage has been protecting my ends. My hair was breaking at shoulder length for the longest time and through low manipulation styles and styles that keep my ends tucked away, I’ve been able to see growth, past shoulder length.
1. Make sure your hair is moisturized and the moisture balance is high 2. Minimize heat 3. Make sure you trim your hair as needed 4. Never put heat on dirty hair 5. Don’t overlap on chemicals, don’t over-process your hair 6. Ponytail wearers, don’t wear them all the time and make sure you move the ponytail to different positions 7. Make sure to use the right ponytail holder with no metal parts 8. Never use manilla rubber-bands on your hair 9. Sleep on satin or silk (bonnets, pillow cases or sheets) 10. Treat your hair with TLC
Linwood, you are the BEST cosmetologist educator I've ever encountered! I love everything about your channel! Your passion for helping people understand their hair, shows all the time. Some cosmetologists easily profit from the lack of knowledge their customers have about their own hair care. But, YOU are an angel 😇 sent from God. You're funny, professional, and I adore your demeanor! love you too! Blessings to you and family. 👑❤⚘⚘⚘⚘⚘⚘
Thank you so very much! I greatly appreciate you and your kind words! It truly means a lot to me! I sincerely hope that the videos are proving to be helpful to you! God bless!
courtney porter Go to: Alopeciafree on RU-vid. She will so completely explain, demonstrate, and educate on ALL aspects of that hair issue. Good luck.👍👍😀
Thanks so much for being detailed. Can you do a video on how to retain length and reduce breakage on your diabetic clients and clients with hypertension? It seems that once I had my last child at 35 , my system changed with both diseases mentioned above and my hair bc of the meds turned dry and brittle 😞. Any and all advice would be appreciated . I do protected styles. Remain Blessed.
For the hypertension, a huge part of it is going to tie back to diet. Blood pressure meds are known to cause shedding of the hair, so eating less salty food and getting more regular exercise goes a long way. The lower your dosage, the less the medication has that impact. Now for a lot of my clients on meds, I’ll do periodic clarifying treatments and then deep condition under a hair steamer to encourage more moisture. Also, if you sweat heavily in your head, try cowashing between shampoos. 👍🏽❤️
Eco gel tore my hair UP! I don’t understand. I’m so hurt and disappointed. I don’t use chemicals and I could literally feel something tingling through my scalp when I had individual braids in my head. I know it was a bad chemical, but they don’t have the actual ingredients listed on the container. I’ve NEVER used a get that tire my hair up so bad. I have severe breakage. I really wish I could SUE them.
Thank you Linwood for this video!! I suffer from serious serious hair breakage and I’m going to take your advice and give my hair the respect & tlc is needs.
Mr Linwood, I'm a 61 year old woman with curly hair. I'm having a lot of breakage and it is very hard to grow out! I was on meds but I quit taking them because I just want my hair to grow long and healthy! Please help! Noone does hair videos on older women's hair problems
I needed this!!! I recently got scissor happy cutting my ends and cut about 3 or 4 inches off!! Now I hate it, it still has some length but its just not the same!!!! I usually keep it twisted up under a wig so I can hide for a while lol. I actually washed my hair yesterday and wanted to cut some more. I get so tempted with scissors!
Ugh that protein/moisture balance struggle is REAL! I'm high porosity so I naturally lack in both moisture AND protein. I'm either going into Hydral fatigue or protein overload trying to find the balance! BUT I think I'm getting closer to figuring it out. Ph balancing my products & alternating between a protein free, moisturizing DC & light protein DC biweekly has helped. I almost have my 4b/4c hair mastered! I'm so excited lol.💃💃💃💃😆
You are amazing! A gifted stylist, great instructor, and you can sing! Triple threat! This video was so informative, I'm going to watch it again and take notes. I hope you reach 100k subscribers by New Years. Go GlamFam!!!
Are satin or silk scrunchies okay? I usually use those when I go to sleep to keep my hair out of the way. I can’t wear bonnets they’re just irritating for me.
I have used grease, leave in conditioner; air dryed my hair, blowdry, towel dry.. slept with a bonnet and durag and every morning my hair wakes up crusty, brittle, dry, and nappy and when I comb it BREAKS into many different pieces and its frizzy!! Why is this happening? I've never been Thin Haired 💔
Thank you! You explained this so incredibly simply. You just kept blowing my mind. Like... I knew moisturizing was important for skin, but it never even crossed my mind that the same goes for hair. It all just makes sense now. And you even explained it without promoting a product! Thank you!
Tamiko Noel Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter for dry & damaged hair. I just bought a 19 oz from CVS. The shampoo works SO well & really moisturizes my hair. I can't say the same about the conditioner & I haven't tried the hair masque in a while but get a hair masque from shea moisture. The Manuka Honey one is very good from reviews but I can't use that one since I'm vegan. So far I've tried the Dandruff Control & Antibreakage one. I heard the 10 in 1 renewal or High Porosity one were great for moisture but they all are good IMO. Just get the shampoo & try a hair masque & use it every week. Deep Conditioning is important because I've had a lot of breakage from not doing that as well as detangling properly.
As far as shampoos go, I totally agree, the moisture retention shampoo from Shea Moisture is amazing! If your hair is damaged, I would mix the restorative masque and the high porosity mask and deep condition with that mixture. This way you can increase moisture and strength. Excellent suggestions!!
I'm a new watcher, and I love you already💙! I'm looking forward to watching all of your videos as a future cosmetologist. You are very informative as well as entertaining! Keep the videos coming😊❤.
Thank You Linwood for sharing tips on hair breakage.I needed to hear this. The hair dresser I went to said it was my blood pressure medicine. The dr said it was stress. When I took biotin and multivitamins hair breakage was less. Plus l plan to stop wearing this wig.I'm just tired of it.lol
I have a question regarding ponytails. I normally do a mid ponytail (Banding method) to stretch my hair out. I take it down mid week to remoisturize then redo my ponytail (banding) I am trying to retain my length. Is this hurting or helping me?
Hey, just binge watched your vids on dry, breakage, moisturizing and noticed you mentioned nutrition. Can you do a video on your take on hair vitamins? I was using one for hair skin and nails and although hair got stronger my skin was a bit more oily than I’d like. Thanks for you’re amazing knowledge and dedication! Hope you get a show soon!
You’ve probably seen this already, but he talked about it a bit in the video he did about hair grease. The short answer was that it’s better to focus on supplementing holistically, because you want your whole body to be healthy, and your hair will draw and benefit from that. Plus, some of the more “specialized” supplements will have excessively high amounts of certain stuff and this can actually cause issues. Anyways, the vid will have his full words on it. And of course, consult your doc about stuff!
My daughter is having some breakage around her edges and the middle. I typed in natural hair breakage repair and all the videos popped up and I was like they don't know what they're talking about....oh look theres Linwood. Click!
Cut it off slowly as it grows out. Keep it moist. Natural products. Not too many buns, Steam, Massage it daily and Ayurvedic hair care & oils will be a huge benefit & leave it alone. 😘 Best blessings.
Hi there, everything that you explain is so simple and easy to understand. Thank you for making great video's. I really appreciate it, thank you so much! :-)
What are your thoughts on plats/braids? I put my little one’s hair in two plats for school every day and see more breakage towards the part area. Could this be due to the hair weakening (stretching) from consistent plats?
Ive been natural since last year and I’m not too familiar with everything about the natural world but my hair has grown a lot but I noticed when I wash my hair; I have strands or little knot balls coming out ... I moisturize my hair a lot with castor oil and some other oils too (tea tree, aloe Vera just to name a few) but any-who is there a reason for that strands coming out like that ? Is there way to stop the hair from shredding ?
What you recommend product wise for thinning breaking edges. I worked retail 4 years and I wore alot of ponytails an puffs lol and it pulled on them. I am currently trying grow them back.
Can you do a detailed video on how to identify damage or need for a trim on natural hair in its natural state(not flat ironed) With visual aids if possible? And I love your channel
In natural and my hair grows soooo slow...i trim my hair but i dont think i trim enough off....i keep my hair moisturized well because i have hair that soaks up everything...i do the lco method...thank you for the tips
Once again you have a very interesting video. When I wrap my hair @ night for some reason the wrap comes off can you tell me the right way to wrap/ also I know not to use the ponytail holders w/ the metal in it. But sometimes the right ones to use have my hair wrapped on it. Why would that happen? I used to have a relaxer in my hair in awhile. What I mean is over a month right now it doesn't even look like it needs a relaxer or a touch up & I didn't put a relaxer in last month. So like I said it's been awhile, what do I do to my hair from now on? Should I put a relaxer .
I know this is a super old video but I'm seeing some thinning on my ends although I get a trim every 3 months. I'm starting to think it's my new Gold N Hot round brush blow dryer that I purchased back in February 🤦🏾♀️ In addition, I hadn't been doing protein treatments regularly. I just did an Aphoghee treatment last week...hoping that will help🥴
I agree with the multivitamin piece, I would also recommend diffusing clary sage essential oil, or applying it with a carrier oil topically to the abdomen daily. You can also add a bit of clary sage and rosemary oil to your shampoo and conditioner. Both are naturally shown to help thicken and increase hair growth. Outside of that, try to be patient and not to put tons of chemicals and such in your hair right now. As your hormones balance out, the shedding slows. I plan on doing a whole video on postpartum shedding, so stay tuned for that as well 😉
Great tips!! Love love love your approach/presence!! I have yards & yards of satin fabric that I bought to make pillowcases months ago... which remain in the shipping box!! 😒Thanks for the reminder Boo!! 💜 Would love videos on...-Product suggestions for DC's, shampoos, relaxers, et al.... are the more expensive products better?? What do you think about JBCO, Amla oil, essential oils, Fenugreek seeds and the like?? -What are your thoughts on frequenting Dominican hair salons?? Some say that these salons are no good for our hair. Would love you to weigh in. I've been going to them for 15 years... Love them but have noticed my SUPER thick hair has thinned but not sure if it's age related. Thanks so much!!
How often should we use keratin shampoo and conditioner? Should we alternate it with a hydrating (protein free shampoo and conditioner ) weekly? Or would that give protein overload ? For reference , I have Caucasian blonde hair.
Hi definitely need more info on the different areas of hair care. I have been told that I my hair is fine and that it holds water. I am not sure of hair density or porosity although I'm thinking that it may be hi porosity. I have transitioned from relaxing my hair for some time now and for a while now I've been getting my hair trimmed. At least since I think Mar or April of 2020 due to the pandemic I have not gotten a trim or a professional deep condition except late 2020 when I had wash and set w/deep conditioning w/o the trim in fact I just got my trim about a week ago from that time. I do my own wash and sets at home with conditioner but, I also am not sure of my hair type whether Ki am a 4 or 4c so it has been a lot with my trying different moisturizers for my hair. SHEA MOISTURE had a (milk or coconut milk and ARGAN oil deep container that I loved for my hair but, then all of a sudden I could not find it. I recall you saying something about not strengthening hair products when attempting to repair hair and I had picked up some products to try one of which is Shea Moisture Leave-in Conditioner for all hair types and also, which I haven't tried yet, Silk Elements Advanced Repair Vitamin E Leave-in w/ turmeric aloe and silk it was recommended when I went to Sally's beauty supply. I have been using Renpure shampoo and conditioner so I picked a Renpure coconut and vitamin E Leave-in cond - I picked up others, (not ur mother's naturals-Royal Honey & Kalahari Desert Melon; Pacifica-coconut milk detangle elixiir; Eenpure- Apple Cider Vinegar Clarify and Shine SCALP SERUM Pure zero mousse and TGIN-Green TEA SUPER MOIST LEAVE-IN CONDITIONER) so I got these prod.. to see which would be the best w/o actually testing them all. I want to make another point but, I must pause for now. Thank you so much for the in*put as it is much needed.some. have to pause f
I do love your chanells! I would be also delighted if I could get your opinion and advice after seeing my hair... Ehhh... Wish you would live next door with your family haha 😂❤
I love to cut my hair.... but it stems from me when I go through high levels of anxiety, depression and impulsively. Like it's me starting over. I cut it in June of last year... it's going back to shoulder length
Hello i love your videos. I learn so much from them. I have a question. My hair just started falling out long strands and i havent relaxed it in over 10 months and my hair grade has gotten thinner. I dont know why? Last week i had braided my hair for 3 days and moisturised it and when i took them out i had a sore itchy scalp and scabs. I dont know what the heck i did but things turned upside down for me and need something to heal my scalp. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
What’s going on with shedding hair? I’m relax now , only 31/2 months . Was shedding with natural hair scalp is tangly and burns a little some times? I take very good care of my hair
So I guess my ten years of wearing a low ponytail 99% of the time was not good 😢 (After being on a ventilator for one week and in the hospital four weeks, my hair was falling out so much that I was just trying to handle it as little as possible. And even after it stopped falling out, depression and burnout didn’t help matters) But now that I just retired, I’m looking forward to taking better care of myself and my hair! Thanks for the hair tips!
