I enjoyed this one so much. Definitely my favorite secret project and also the easiest to read for someone who’s first language isn’t English. I would just like to point out that the explanation at the end is possibly very intentional given the inspirations for the story and the world. This “tell, show only little crumbs that will make sense only after it’s explained” is a very manga/anime thing. They will just tell you everything, so to me this only adds points to my praise for this book.
Aaah, this sounds so interesting! Based on the excerpts that went with the Kickstarter, I thought that #2 would be my favorite but everything you described sounds so much up my alley! 🤞🤞
I also thought Secret Project 2 was going to be my favorite, BUUUUT no, this one is THE ONE. Ahhh it really was something, I can’t wait to hear your thoughts both about the story and the art! 🥹
Great review. Mirrored many of my thoughts. Definitely my favorite Sanderson books since Lost Metal. After getting my physical copy of Tress, I was a little saddened that I didn’t get to experience all the artwork with the magical turn of a page, but my impatience and need to read it won out. I feel even stronger with the gorgeous artwork in this book. My biggest complaint in the book are Hoid’s expositional passages and a flimsy reasoning for the magical connection between Yuma and Painter. Easily forgivable for such an enjoyable ride.
I DNFd Yumi and the nightmare painter, i was so excited for it after i loved tress so much but i just hated Yumi, I made it to like chapter 12 and just went to 17th shard to see what was important from the book.
Ahhh yes, that makes sense! I still think that you can read it even if you haven’t read anything else; BUUUUT it is true that you will get to understand and enjoy the story more if you know a bit about the Cosmere!
This wasn't on my radar at all, but it sounds up my alley! I have this story idea in my head that I really want to write one day, that's heavily based on Japanese culture and Yokai (demons and spirits). So seeing my favorite author doing a story that takes japanese influence is definitely something I want to read!
That idea sounds so good! Let me know if you end up writing it! I love the Japanese culture! Agh I hope you enjoy it! It was so beautiful and unique! really really loved it!
@@FunFantasyBooks thank you :) Cause I found hoid really interesting and funny in stormlight when he was Wit, so I really hope that transfers to this secret project
I am reading this story right now, unfortunately I had plans so was not able to read too much on the release day but what I did read was fantastic. Can’t wait to get my physical copy of this book.
I knooooow! They absolutely are! But Yumi it’s just so good! (And the Spanish edition is also the premium hardback just in case you know spanish! - sorry if not, I thought so for your nickname!)
Currently reading it. If you haven't alteady, I highly recommend watching the animated movie "Your Name" the inspitation behind this work. A younger me would have loved this book, but it is an wellcomed plalet cleanser.
Yumi and the Nightmare Painter sounds so interesting. Should I read this if I've only read The Way of Kings or would it spoil too much of the Stormlight Archive?
Ummm, great question! There are some spoilers in this book for some secondary stuff that happens in Stormlight! I’d say that if you’d like to enjoy Stormlight to the fullest, and you have an outstanding memory for details, then don’t read Yumi yet!
Well, I was kind of hoping to actually discover the book title and cover art for myself when I received my physical copy, but so much for that I guess. And only four days into Q3 too. Oh well, maybe next time I guess.
Oh my goodness, I'm positively bursting with joy and excitement! Your incredible presentation has filled me with an overwhelming sense of delight and anticipation. This nice Art! I simply cannot contain my eagerness to dive into this book. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing this with us. I can't wait to get my paws on it!
Aww thank you so much for your comment! It really fills my heart that it was useful to you and that it got you excited about Yumi!! It’s definitely an amazing read! Can’t wait to hear your thoughts about it!
It’s not needed! I really think that you’ll enjoy the core of the story regardless. BUUUT there is a lot of talk about Investiture, and the spiritual realm. If you are okay not getting every single reference, you’ll be more than okay!!
