Wifi 6 smashes it! Much better performance using 802.11ax (wifi 6) vs 802.11ac (wifi 5). This demo with a Samsung Galaxy S10 shows much better performance and fewer drops when streaming a 4K video.
This is the year of big changes! 5g and wifi 6 are here!

Sorry, I was finished with the video as soon as that dev described AC WiFi as old school. Funny how a manufacturer funded demo event makes their new tech look amazing 🙄

David: The application that we see on the screen, on the sansumg S10 phones, is a Cisco native development for the Wi-Fi 6 test or is it an app that I can get in the play store? I liked the way it shows the connection speed on the screen of mobile phones. Thanks for your time for my comment

Lunhamege, I was simply using the new Cisco Catalyst 9800-CL WLC because I was curious to see what new features are available with it. Older WLCs also support the new WIFI6 APs as long as they can run a recent version of code.

Graham, we are using the stats for nerds option in Google Chrome. On mobile, Google Chrome has the option to show that type of information if you click on the 3 vertical dots in the upper right corner of each video and choose playback settings and then stats for nerds. You can also change the quality and speed of the video in there. Hope this helps.

Thanks Mr Bombal, but do I feels slightly underwhelmed? Aren't we supposed to get "theoretical speeds of up 10Gbps" with WiFi 6? What the galaxy S 10 got was like 1% (100Mbps) of that. I am probably missing something 🤔
@adrianiliesiu2778
@adrianiliesiu2778 5 лет назад
Walter, while up to 9.6Gbps is theoretically possible with WIFI6, the test in the video was performed in an environment with a couple of restraints: the location is in a lab with quite a bit of background wireless interference and also the placement of the AP and the antennas is not optimal to name just a few. The purpose of the demo was not to push the technology to its limits in regards to data transfer but to simply showcase side by side two wireless clients connected to the same access point, using different technologies (WIFI6 vs. WIFI5) and their behavior when watching a high definition video on RU-vid. Keep in mind that the RU-vid playback algorithm and caching mechanism also come in the picture. If you pay attention when you watch a RU-vid video, the content is loading as you watch the video at a steady pace not necessarily at the maximum transfer rate that is available on your client, then pausing while you catch up, then loading again. Hope this answers at least part of your concerns. We might do a test in which we push the technology to its data transfer limits if there is interest :)

Since the Samsung S7 and S10 are on completely different planets with regards to hardware comparisons, this test is not accurate. My S9+ can stream full 4k with 1 or less dropped frames from across my house, much less in a controlled lab with a few feet between access point and phone.

Wtf. They got 30Mbps connection speed on cisco 802.11ac ap's? I got cisco 3802 ap's at home and that is bullshit. I easily get 866Mbs connection speed on my phone. But I'll soon order 9120 AP's.

Depends on brand. You should contact Cisco about their pricing / or your local partner / distributor. However, there are not many clients at the moment. Samsung S10 is one of very few client devices that support wifi 6.

Great !!! It's amazing, thank you very much that share the latest technology innovation. But I am a little bit skeptic about the health causion because WiFi 6 in the same time mean high wave density, wich is unhalthy for humans. I want not to belive that a new innovation will implemented without testings for side effects. Regards

WTF, how is the YT "stats for nerds" ANY indication of anything? do some real tests. the S7 was playing the same video, at the same resolution, no problems. the s7 dropped 0.7% of frames, and that could have been due to external network impact.

Duh, comparing apples and oranges. You better run the test on the same device. One connected to AC and then the same device connected to AX. Also you need to make sure that you are running on the same AP for both AC and AX for the comparison to make sense. Otherwise the whole thing is just a marketing BS.

I doubt WiFi 5 only get 30MB . As with mu MIMO 2x2 one can get 60MB/s . With ht160 WiFi ac Mobile client one can get 100MB/s

Adrian gave this answer about the speed in the video demo: "While up to 9.6Gbps is theoretically possible with WIFI6, the test in the video was performed in an environment with a couple of restraints: the location is in a lab with quite a bit of background wireless interference and also the placement of the AP and the antennas is not optimal to name just a few. @@davidbombal cool but WiFi 5 wave didn't get well in practice . Speed is one point but I agree with power saving compared to last gen on mobile devices. Even with WiFi 5 wave 2 with ht160 it's feasible for 1gbps .

@@davidbombal thanks. Real comparison has to be any WiFi 5 wave 2 support ht160 band spectrum with capabilities to store more than 120MB/s against wifi6 . In reality wave 2 also quad antenna upto 1733 which can be achieved by 2 antenna if it's support ht160 band combination of two 80mhz. Also the wifi6 and WiFi 5 should be compared side by side with the top end routers of their gen per the smaller builder ranking.
