A few years ago I failed miserably to replicate the bluish gray colour from GW's Gandalfs robe for a D&D model without a guide and a limited selection of appropriate paints. My attempt turned out way too pale, but yours turned out way better so I'm curious which colours you used. And your budding Imperial Fleet reminds me I have two old plastic Chaos Cruisers I bought when BFG was still sold by my FLGS somewhere that I should probably get around to painting...
I used was Mechanicus Standard Grey with a wash a nuln in the recesses and a highlight (I think) Asministratum Grey, although I'd recommend a slightly darker highlight than I used, I was just being lazy and couldn't be bothered to mix any paints hah Hope that helps :)
3:27 I've always had a soft spot for this particular Grot model. He looks a little less gung-ho and more cautious than some of the other grots, his knowing wizened expression gives off a relatable "I'm gettin' too old for this nonsense" vibe that I appreciate :3
The full body chastity suit design is the same as the grots who crewed the originla hop-splat gun. I have these but didn't know they used this in other minis. I think it was a pretty bleak design choice, emphasising the grots being "slaves" so I'm glad it didn't feature much after after a feiw early minis. One of the crew has a bug metal tear running down his face which freaked me out as a kid.
Seeing gun-dolf first made me happy. It's nice too him painted. Hopefully Snipe will show off painted Lupe. Was thinking about sending more prints....but seeing how you will be flooded....I think I will send some books. Who knows, you might be able to get Ancient Egyptians and Isrealites fight tomb kings. If you know, you know.
Love the RT era grots I painted a bunch of them too including that blunderbuss refill one , not sure how many have that odd chastity set up but I know the grot crew for the hop splat field gun has them too
I was really hoping for another chance to see your painting after the monthly round-up ended; you've got one of my favourite styles on RU-vid - I'm not really into grimdark, photorealistic or particularly artsy paintjobs on minis, so this bolder palette is much more my speed
Watching Lord of the Rings got very uncomfortable when Gandalf ran into Moria and shouted "Watch this shit motherfuckers" before gunning down Durin's Bane.
I love the idea behind this series. I both enjoy getting to see the old models painted up and appreciate the fact that following paint-log series helps motivate me to paint.
I always find your Paint Log videos so inspiring! Progress doesn’t have to be entire armies or amazing center pieces; sometimes getting a couple grots and a Space Marine in is more than good enough! Thank you as always, Wib!
The Gundalf model seems to be using a WW2 era German submachinegun called MP 40 ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MP_40 ) but the barrel has been broken off, the stock is either folded or removed, and the magazine is a bit short.
Lovely stuff as always! Good to see the Grot Revolution is continuing to gain members. If you ever figure out BFG I'm up for a game, been a very long time since I've played though 😅
I felt this was too quick the time flyes when I'm nerding out I guess. Great video! really love this style and I hope we get to see more in the future!
Audibly gasped when I saw the BFG ships. They're some of my favourite models. Ok so 3D printed? I'd still love to increase my fleet sizes at normal prices
Wib, I'd try not to feel obligated to paint anything and everything people send you. If I were to send you anything it would be in thanks for the entertainment you've given us over the years, not because I want you to paint them and give me a shout out. Great stuff, anyways.
Oh don't worry, I'm not doing it out of obligation! I was painting them anyway and I knew people would get a kick out of seeing them, but thank you for the concern :)
Does Snipe have a RU-vid channel for their models? Would love to see how they paint my old chaos dread, I understand if it's later on the 'to do' list as it's a recent addition.
