GoPro footage in the Drum box of Wicked at the Pantages Theatre. The 1st national tour came through LA again earlier this year. Here's a fly on the wall look in the Pit at a Broadway touring show.
you see some people just focus and thank the singers so i would like thank you sir and the people who are under the stage with you for amazing music that let the actors sing
with all the experience you had over the years with Wicked, did it ever get to the point where yoi said "I bet I could play this whole show without looking at the music"
Not trying to devalue his performance but most musicians can memorize music with relative ease it’s kinda easy after you’ve played your music over and over ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Wow, I've never been able to hear that sick triplet groove at :55 until now, and the way the guitarist tears out of it! Amazing. Do you count the minutes until those rock tunes to be able to open up like that? ;) haha
Every time I hear it I can never get over how much the last 15 seconds or so of the witch hunters just sounds like it could merge perfectly into the Star Wars Imperial March
The more I learn about how all of artist on Broadway/West End and in any other countries, the more I have respect for them. In all aspects. Not only the leading roles because they can't shine on stage without ensemble, the orchestra, the dresser and any other profession for theatre. Crazy show business but I bet majority they work with heir hearts because they love what they're doing. Salute ....
roughly how reduced is the percussion section on the tour (I lnow for sit down prodction there's i think 59 percussion instruments but i'm sure it's scaled back for the tour)
as far as I know, it's gotta be separate. The percussion part has a lot of minimalist, very sensitive stuff written in it, so there's no choice but to be completely separated (usually from the whole orchestra).
My favorite part of playing that keyboard 2 book right here at 4:48, nailing that B2 (I think it was) for that lion roar patch ugh so much fun. Really miss playing in that pit.
I was in the pit for Wicked! They came through my city in February of this year and I got to play keyboard 2! I was 17 at the time, I am finally 18 now, and the MD/conductor Dan Micciche said I was one of the top 3 pianists he has ever worked with so, I was very blessed with that opportunity!
Yep Measure 21 beat 4 in the keyboard 2 part shows a quarter note stating Lion Roar (pitched) on B2 with a smooth fall after it down to a F2 half note beat 1 of measure 22.
God I forgot how hard the electric guitar and drums go during this song like I usually focus on the singers but damn you and that guitar practically carry this song.
+Dell Conagher Just being silly Rock'n'Roll drummer and yes sometimes I'm being stupid with the guitarist who is also rocking out. He's the only guy I can see in the pit when I'm in the box. That's all:)
Where abouts under the stage are you, middle, stage left or stage right? also are you the only drum kit player or is there two drum kits in this Wicked musical production? by the way your really good at this. Really enjoyed watching this video and interesting of what it is like behind the scenes. 😆😆🖒
Hello, my name is Matti. I'm from Germany and I'm 12 years old. My dream job is to later work as a drummer, percussionist, conductor or something else in a musical. May I ask you how much does a drummer/percussionist earn in a musical? I know musicians don't like to talk about money, but it would interest me a lot.
Taylor Quinn I did do that, but Wicked has stopped at the Pantages multiple times, it would be hard to identify which stop this was, especially considering the fact that he did in fact upload this way after it was taken, which is what I had suspected.
It says Wicked 1st national tour in the title and says it's in Los Angeles. It seems Stephanie J Block may be Elphaba since she was Elphaba kn the wicked 1st national tour which included this theatre in Los Angeles.
Taylor Quinn Just re-read the description and it said that this was earlier “this year,” which of course would mean early 2015 when the video was published. Emma Hunton and Chandra Lee Schwartz were Elphaba and Glinda unless there was an understudy on at this particular performance.
@@praestant8I don't know about that, I commented that six years ago because I found it funny. I don't really know what are you allowed to do in this or what not
There’s so much equipment. I think there is a window to see other members of the orchestra. I saw on Broadwaycom RU-vid channel one of the actors playing elpheba saying hi to the drummer when going past the orchestra on a tour of back stage.
