Sabrina Weckerlin returned to Wicked - The witches of Oz for 2 month last year and had this stunning performance at 9th october 2010. Glinda: Joana Fee Würz
I like the English translation of this scene better than the actual English one. I think the lines 'seek me in the sky where night conquers the day' and 'all you earth bound people can't begin to imagine how I feel' is better than 'so if you care to find me look to the western sky' and 'to those who ground me take a message back from me.'
I so very much agree! I've always thought those two lines especially sounded generic and throw-away in English. The German is genuinely defiant! I've often wondered if Stephen Schwartz had any say in the translation and how he likes the job they did.
@@wsutrumpet on his website, he says that he personally oversees each translation. I believe he speaks German so he may have been more involved with this one, but for languages like Japanese he has them translate it back to English so he can go over the meaning.
The English translations of lyrics don't have to match the music or scan so there's more freedom to be poetic. I think compared to some other musicals, the lyrics for this part of Defying Gravity are serviceable.
I think any translation that isn’t English is better , in Spanish she says “ I’m going towards the horizon where the sea gets lost” instead of so if you care to find me….it’s more poetic
There have been a fair number of elphabas over the years that have hit that note. Either at the end like it is here or taking the high F up like that. I've actually never heard Willemijn hit that note before.
@@elphbwckd212 Well, Willmijn belts all the way and Sabrina did a smooth transition to mix for that F. (I think, not sure) Edite: But the F note was amazing!
@@yentepan it’s actually an A flat she hits here! Willemijn had a similar riff she did, but I think went to a G or F sharp if I remember correctly. But yeah, I’ve heard audios of Kennedy Caughell and Patrice Tipoki hitting this note, as well as Natalie Weiss 🥰
Idk how the set is in Germany, but I’m thinking that maybe because she was already rising before the guards noticed her is because she got in too early, because at the set at the Gershwin (Broadway) has a computer off on stage left where when she steps into the lift, it knows to go unless she isn’t locked in safely.
