i hear great things about Wickson from east to west coast. there is a real interesting fellow with a channel called SKILLCULT, great channel. he is doing some small scale breeding work. wickson was used in many of the crosses he made. he also sold over 1000 seeds of wickson in hopes of expanding his project. he believes in trying to continue some of the work of Albert Etter. i couldnt get wickson in my last scion order. for my next order wickson is my #1 priority. looking at the high sugar, high pectin apples for future grafts. hopefully i can limit myself with grafting only 3 scions next year. i need to let my trees grow lol.

Hey Al, the trees look good. How old are they? How long before they started fruiting?

The trees are four years old. Some crop last season and much better this year. Not fair to judge because we had a bad spring last year.

I took off >10 bushel last week. Some pruning may increase the yield!

How does the taste compared to Etter’s Crimson Gold/ little rosy bloom?

I'm not familiar with those varieties. All I can say for flavour is that they are tart and sweet and fun to eat! Great for adding acid and sugar to your mix.

@@Neighbour_Al I had some really tiny apples labeled as “Crimson Gold” by a California farm. They were so delicious that I planted some seeds even knowing they might not be true to type. But the Kuffel Creek Nursery fellow mentioned a CA guy selling Crimson Gold apples that are actually Wickson Crabs. So now I’m wondering if my 4 baby trees are actually Wicksons. The taste of those apples match your description.

@@tj21bem I regret that apples are not true to seed, and you will not get more of the fruit you want from the seeds you planted. On the other hand, there are essentially an infinite number of possibilities to what you might get! I recommend that you search out Wickson Crab from a reputable nursery. They come into bearing quickly and will get you pleasure for a very long time.
