What I like -your video has many live examples of photos, not just walls and 100-200-1000%% crops. That’s really very nice and professional style of review
Thank you very much! This is what I am trying to achieve with my reviews. Not only show what a lens can do but also hopefully inspire someone to shoot more.
Thanks for this video. I think I 'm going to get it. The display may come in handy when shooting astro, where it's hard to see anything on the camera. The A-B focus automation, similarly, can be useful for astro, where you set point A to the foreground element (tree, rocks, house, etc), and B point set to infinity, and make focus stacking sessions/shots easier.
Thank you for watching! This is a good point. Prefocusing on the foreground using a flash light and then ininity and changing the focus in complete darkness with these buttons really makes sense. Thank you!
the fn2 button is preset to minimum focus and infinity focus. so when you are shooting astro, you can just flip to MF and press the fn2, and immidately, the stars are in focus. no more turning MF ring. Pretty sick i would say
I read about this lens in Sony rumors. On paper it seemed too good to be true. The other day i saw on Instagram that you were testing it, i was crossing my fingers "Please be good". Thank you for the great review. Greetings from Greece!! 🙏
I want and need this lens. The widest I currently have is 28 on my Tamron 28-75. This would be a great addition to my kit. Thank you so much for such a great review. I was wondering when we would see some reviews on this lens.
As I understand it, in cinematic photography you frequently plane the focus pulls prior to shooting and -- most importantly-- based on distance measurements, not based on objects in the viewfinder. Actors may walk into the scene, for example. Therefore you can't use the camera's A to B focus automation.
I had the exact same thought. A frequent use of this type of focus pull with a wide angle is getting a character focus reveal that shows their emotional reaction in the background of another character's close-up shot. Specifically, it's used to show an emotional disconnect BETWEEN two people because one person is not aware of the other's reaction (both of them are facing the camera). The lack of background compression helps to physically distance the two characters in the frame as well. (Disclaimer: I am not a cinematographer. This is my personal take LOL)
I wonder if the 2 focus settings might be good for astro work if you want to hit focus on a foreground element for a long exposure and then touch to go to infinity for star photos to stack...
@@DrManarKawar this lens really stands out from the crowd. Nearly perfect optically. No chromatic aberration and very useful distance display screen for getting it into infinity in the dark
@@PavSZ im struggle now so much :) I want buy sigma 16-28 for wide shots like landscapes and real estate but now with the viltrox im not sure what to do :) cause it might be a good choice for astro also :) Maaaaaaan i need to know youre opinion before i make decision :)
@@mishax5957 not yet bro :) But if i will yse this only for real eastate i will go for sigma cause there i dont need f.1.8 and still i have more range. So probably i will buy sigma.
It's nice lens but honestly it has no optical stabilisation, i have a lot of shaking shots ! Its a bit borring since i have to stabilise in post. Anyway its still a good lense using a tripod but i guess not for vlogging
There is an adaptor to use emount lenses on Zmount cameras with autofocus. Megadapt ETZ 21 pro is the latest version. The reviews seem to be quite decent so far. People even use sony tele lenses on a Nikon Z9 for Wildlife, birds in flight etc. I might get a Z8 later this year if I can get a one for a good price.
@@PavSZ I suspect the electronics may have some design or fabrication flaws to iron out. Honestly I’m really disappointed because it seems to have so many good reviews. I’m shocked this came from the distributor it should never have left the factory. I’m sticking with the much older but very reliable 10-18mm f4 OSS and 20mm f1.8 for now.
@@bradl2636 I'd personally try again. This lens is too good to not give them another chance. But you are right, bad copies should never leave the factory
