The Wide Double Crochet Stitch uses the wonderful simple double crochet stitch, yet modifies it slightly in order to create a more open fabric with more drape. This stitch is great for beginners and the more experienced alike!

I'm just looking for a simple and quick stitch (for a 50" x 60" throw) that does not require a whole lot of thought and memorization. I really like the way this looks and I hope that an even number of stitches + three will give me what I need. Thank you for this lovely tutorial.

Love this. Wanted to make some long pajamas but couldn’t find. Stitch that didn’t look too bulky, this works for my project.

I think this is even easier for a complete beginner to fond where the hook goes: sometimes it is easy the miss the next stitch because the previous one pulls it tighter so its not so easy to see. But this way it's less likely to be as big of a problem. (I'm 100% sure that's how I crocheted my first project when I started learning. 😂)

I've done this where I wanted to weave a ribbon through the stitches. Makes it much easier, and the end result looks so neat and tidy. But I hadn't thought to just do the whole thing like this. I'm thinking I want to use it for a sweater since winters here are very mild.

This is actually how I was taught to crochet. I used to make square baby blankets (in the round) alternating colours every few rows.

Hi Sarah, think I'll use this next time I make the cats some more bedding out of chenille as I gin they like to pad at it and it doesn't matter with chenille. Thanks for the tutorial 😀
