I had to use a vice to force the bushings into my 944's control arms recently...the steel vice handle is completely bent in half now but the bushings are (mostly) in. Glad to see I'm not the only one who struggles so much with bushings!

Dry Ice in a cooler to shrink and oven for expanding. Dry ice works better than the freezer.

Makes sense, I’ll keep that in mind next time, thanks!

Replaced the front control arm bushings on the 993, I feel you pain. Hours and hours of beating with a punch, luckily to poly bushes went in easy.

Same with getting the OEM rubber off the spring plates. Porsche really didn’t want their bushings coming off lol

POR-15 is not what I'd consider "cheap." Its not crazy expensive but it is certainly A LOT more than some Rustoleum, or VHT. If you plan on using it out of the can again be careful because it's so tough that it will harden to the can and basically be useless afterwards. It is tough as nails, that's for sure. It actually adheres to 'seasoned' metal/ rusty metal better than clean stuff. I use a container that I can scoop the POR-15 into that I can throw away after. Use a coffee scooper or something like that to transfer the POR-15 into when you're applying it. Don't let it get into the ridge on the paint can because it'll harden up and you'll basically have to destroy the can to get it open. That's how hard thay stuff dries. I used to do entire chassis with it. For starters, I would stick the delrin bushings in the freezer, and the spring plates in the oven around 200 degrees prior to your final press-on/ fitment. It wouldn't hurt to take some material off the bushing and maybe even a small amount of material off the spring plates. A liberal amount of what I call 'snot' (lube) is also a must for ease of installation, and to prevent binding/ squeaking. Delrin is a super hard durometer/ shore hardness, so they will naturally be more difficult to install than a urethane counterpart. I've used poly, delrin, and solid aluminum bushings tons of times over the years on a bunch of different applications and sometimes you really have to work at it/ remove a few thou, etc to get things seated/ bushings fully pressed in. I just recently found your channel, and since I am not only interested, but personally involved in track stuff, bimmers, porsches, fabrication, engine swaps, etc your channel is quickly becoming one of my favorites. Hats off to you fellas for the hard work, and great content. Keep it coming and I know that this video is old but congrats on the baby!!! You got some time to shape that young mind and get yourself another helper in the shop!!! LOL!!!🤣😁👍

Consider putting a couple of washers on each of the four carrier arm bolts as spacers to move the carrier arms out from the torsion tube, so that the delrin bushings aren't pinched so tight when you torque down the bolts.

How did the suspension turn out? Just curious, but Racers Edge sells torsion tube upper mounts that mount on the support wing...the pieces you cut off. Their site says you need the mounts with or without torsion tubes...I went with poly bronze bearings instead of the Delrin bushings, hopefully they’re easier to install.

We haven’t tested it yet, the build will be getting picked back up after paint in the near future. Poly bronze is definitely the way to go, I should have spent the extra money. Racers Edge knows more than me about the suspension so I’d take their word. However, it seems unnecessary to me. Maybe there are more rotational forces acting on the torsion bar carrier with coilovers than I realize.

I thought you chopped those because the springs themselves on the coil overs don’t clear them? The OEM struts on the rear suspension are pretty close to those “trailing arms” so that’s why I was thinking you were doing that. Am I going to need to chop those? I’m asking because I’m in the process of building an ‘87 NA 944. I just purchased a set of KW Variant 3 coil overs for the 944 and am waiting for their arrival. They’re delayed so I won’t be getting them until mid November

I’ll be getting my installed soon too, hopefully. We’ll find out.
