Enjoy my performance of the Polonaise Brillante No.2 by Wieniawski at the 2016 Enescu Competition in Bucharest, with pianist Verona Maier. Wieniawski wrote only two Polonaises.
Here, I am performing on a violin by Gennaro Gagliano from 1742, kindly loaned to me by the Berlin University of the Arts.
Date of performance: September, 2016.

Beautiful playing, so elegant and imaginative. How refreshing to hear someone make music with this piece insted of constantly trying to break the sound barrier with insanely fast und chaotic tempi. No false virtuosity here. He has technique to burn, but he seems always to put it at the service of the music.

I loved the tempo, so kind to the wonderful lyric quality of the piece. I feel Wieniawski himself may have played it at this speed. I have heard too many lesser violinists, technically proficient, tear through this wonderful music as if they had to catch a flight or a train.

Your thanks are appreciated. Just a comment. This posting lists the Polonaise as being the D Major. This is, actually, the # 2 in A Major? Thanks again for a wonderful performance. Mark

@@vorspiel1023 You're absolutely right- my head must've been in the clouds while uploading the video, and apparently it stayed there for five long years! 😂

@@alicansuner.violin Thank you. The 1st Polonaise, D Major, is also a wonderful piece. I heard it first as a small child; my late Mother had an old 78 recording of Heifetz playing it!

Your violin looks almost too small for you; either you are physically large, or your violin is like 3/4 size. Ysaÿe was a large man and his violin looked small, too. Same with Kavakos. However, you do play so well that someone should gift, or loan you an exceptional violin worthy of your playing. Perhaps someone will step up.

Thank you for the kind words, I'm really happy to hear that! Yes, I'm a tall guy with big hands, which has both advantages and disadvantages, but I don't complain :-) This violin was a J. Gagliano on loan, which I loved. I currently play on a Testore, also on loan (see my later videos). Regardless of one's physical features, if the instrument is great, I think one can always make compromises to a certain degree.

Thank you for your kind comment! Well, an advice via a RU-vid comment without hearing your playing is hard, but if you wish, you can send me a recording through my website, and I'd be happy to listen. Here is the link, just scroll down to the bottom: www.alicansuner.com/bio

@@muchammadsuryomaulanaakbar4964 pure sweat and practice. You can practice by rhythmizing notes. For example really fast 2 consecutive notes and then little break and again 2 very fast notes and so on. Then you can try 3, 4...

@@toffifeewolf2069 It's getting trickier when I change the notes... I can play major scales with consistent speed (two notes and then change it), but when it comes to certain melodies, my rythm just messed up... I wonder how long u've been practicing this technique till u nailed it... Cuz I think I could make it as my reference 😂😂
@toffifeewolf2069
@toffifeewolf2069 3 года назад
@@muchammadsuryomaulanaakbar4964 I still can't nail it and practiced just the bite notes for like maybe 50-70 hours... it's very hard You can try fast staccato on one string, and when the string changes, you can stop, feel the new string with the bow and go on. When you feel comfortable, you can do the same + one note from the string change, then stop again and do the same
