Great to see someone reacting to Tribal Tech - one of my favourite bands in the wonderful world of fusion. Scott Henderson is such a beast and hits that bluesy groove coming from a jazz direction in a similar way to how Robben Ford approaches jazz from a blues direction. Great stuff!
Man, I attended MI in 1986 right when Tribal Tech's first album came out. They were all on staff, AND everybody at the school thought Robben Ford was God back then. They have extensive footage of him in their tape library.
@@avantprog6902 Must have been a great time to attend, having such great artists as teachers (though great artists don’t always make the best teachers). Just being in that environment was, I’m sure, an adventure.
@@Drinckx2 It was overwhelming. It was only a year long school and they tried to cram everything down your throat. I wish I were more accomplished going in. Years later I ran into one of the instructors and told him that and he said they all knew that. What they intended to do is teach us how to teach ourselves. Now it's under different ownership, different staff, and it's a 4 year school.
Gary Willis, monster bass player. Certainly, Scott plays some blues licks in this, but I wouldn't call this track a Blues Track. That's straight up funky jazz fusion. The Scott Henderson album about the dog is called Dog Party. Tore Down House is another one of his solo albums that's bluesy.
You guys should check " Ominous ", I was working at a Restaurant up at Universal Studios. I persuaded a group of my coworkers to go to the Baked Potato, which was walking distance, to see Tribal Tech. They all walked out with their jaws dragging the ground.
Oh yeah, cruising down Fusion Blvd. in a funky traffic jam. Check out the view, nice. Then back into playing in traffic. Love that sophisticated sound of rich chords and progressions. Never heard these cats before. Let's hear more. Are you familiar with Jeff Beck with the Jan Hammer Group Live record (1977)? A classic!
I've been a Huge Fan of Tribal Tech for Many Years. Seen Many Reaction Videos from Others but You're the Only Ones to Turn People on To the Genius of Scott Henderson and Gary Willis. They're the Thinking Person's Band. I Love That You're Sharing Them With the World. I Think that TT falls more into the Progressive Rock Jazz Fusion Genre Love Hugs and Big Smiles to Nick and Lex and All the Awesome Music Aficionados 🤩😃😎😁 And Your Little 🐶 Too !!!
Thank you for turning me on to this group. Now I have to go on a deep dive. I have some recommendations for you: Snarky Puppy (Lingus-Live), Butcher Brown (Cabbage) and Lettuce (Last Suppit). Three groups you will want to listen to and you won’t be sorry. Fusionistas!
This is pretty fantastic stuff! Fire!!! I give it three outta five fires! 🔥🔥🔥 And I heard nick mention Eric Johnson, amazing guitar player!!! Love what you do peace, Rush family love! 🥰💐🤗
Good God . . . UH! Mmhmm, Hoo! Uh huh, Ooh yeah . . . . . . Sorry, was gettin' in that groove. Dat Bass be like . . . OW (Gary Willis)! The grove being laid down by drummer Kirk Covington was nice. And just after watching Rick Beato's Top 20 Drum Grooves of All Time :).
I've seen Scott Henderson live a dozen times -- in various configurations, including with Kinsey on keyboards, but never a real Tribal Tech show. I love both Henderson and Kinsey, and love them much more live than on record. And I love the records, too. This was kind of a sure thing!
Excellent choice - one of the great modern guitarists and one of the great solos! Please don't give up on TT/Scott... How about trying 'The Big Wave' next? Or 'Signal Path'.
Tribal Tech! This is particular Tribal Tech track is fusion/funk. Tribal is mostly fusion, but Scott Henderson the guitarist has released several actual blues albums, like Dog Party(which you should react to!). One of my top 5 bands all time, I recommend Premonition, Root Food, The Big Wave.
I have loved Tribal Tech and Scott Henderson from the get-go! I wondered whether y'all were hip to Snarky Puppy. I would highly recommend "Lingus," and you can react to the video because it's a live original recording.
Good morning guys. First thank you so much for your reactions. Why don't you listen to some Weather Report. Like Black Market. or. A Remark You Made ? I am sure a lot of people would enjoy it.
"Dog Party" was more of a straight ahead blues album, with humorous lyrics, sung by the drummer. Henderson sounded a lot like S.R.Vaughan on parts of that album. After that album he put out another couple of blues oriented albums - "Tore Down House", with Thelma Houston on vocals, and "Well To The Bone", which also had some vocals, and where Henderson got into some extreme whammy bar manipulation. I was going to chose the title track from my first Tribal Tech album, "Spears" (1986), but it isn't on Spotify. I do have another one that is actually bluesier than "Face First", but I didn't have time to submit it. Maybe some other month. I've never heard anyone sound so much like Jaco as Gary Willis does.
¡Chicos!
ok well, Cleveland don't mind me cranking up the music and this sounds pretty funky and cool. never heard of this band, never heard this, it was original to say the least if lyrics were added it would be Red Hot Chili Peppers meets ELO, meets Bucky Pizzarelli in my opinion.
