Turn your old electric UFH smart by replacing the thermostat with a WiFi connected model. I've replaced my old Roma Heating touchscreen thermostat with the Ketotek KTF0155 Smart Thermostat. It uses the Tuya Smart Life platform and can be controlled via an app, voice assistant (Alexa, Google), and even connected to Home Assistant or SmartThings.

Great video and very helpful. When we had our conservatory build 20 years ago we installed both wet radiators and 6kW of underfloor electric heating split into 2*3kW. I tried the underfloor heating the first Christmas and baulked at the cost and it was never switched on again. Fast forward to 2023 and after installing a second solar PV array, 10kWh of battery storage and a 5kW Sunsynk hybrid inverter I switched to Octopus agile. Suddenly being able to use 6kW of power during a price plunge is very attractive. I've automated the immersion heater with a Sonoff POW320D and was looking for a solution for the underfloor heating. I've watched a few of your videos before and this one was perfect for me. Ordered 2 * KTF0155 via your affiliate link on Prime day, fitted them today and will be enjoying the price plunge tomorrow (13 Oct) when Home Assistant will be managing the switching of the UFH for me. ~Brian

Thank you, and I'm glad it's been of use.

Thanks! I’ve been wanting to replace my basic Warmup thermostat for ages but they were so expensive. This one is really good value. I received mine today and took less than ten mins to replace. Very impressed, so much easier using my phone to set the programs. Just need to set up on HA.
@SpeakToTheGeekTech
@SpeakToTheGeekTech Год назад
Glad it was useful. Setting it up in HA is as easy as you make it :) You can use the normal cloud-based Tuya approach and there's no special effort required because it just appears as a climate entity. But, I much prefer LocalTuya (hence the DPs that I've published to give people a head start), but LocalTuya is not simple!
@domgoff999
@domgoff999 Год назад
@@SpeakToTheGeekTech I have mine set up in LocalTuya. I'm still quite new to HA, it would be good to see how you have your automations set up to control it.

It's pretty straightforward to control using climate.* service calls. This is my automation that runs three times a week during the off-peak hours when the heating mode is on, just to warm the conservatory a little bit and prevent mould: alias: "Heating: Conservatory UFH At Night" description: "" trigger: - platform: time at: input_datetime.off_peak_energy_start id: "on" condition: - condition: time weekday: - fri - tue - sun - condition: not conditions: - condition: state entity_id: climate.controller state: "off" alias: Heating is NOT off action: - delay: hours: 1 minutes: 0 seconds: 0 milliseconds: 0 - service: climate.turn_on data: {} target: entity_id: climate.conservatory_ufh - delay: hours: 0 minutes: 0 seconds: 5 milliseconds: 0 - service: climate.set_temperature data: temperature: 10 target: entity_id: climate.conservatory_ufh - delay: hours: 2 minutes: 0 seconds: 0 milliseconds: 0 - service: climate.turn_off data: {} target: entity_id: climate.conservatory_ufh mode: single

Really useful video. I have just installed a Warmup DCM-Pro system for a bathroom but wasn't impressed with the Warmup stat, which is also expensive. I am using the Ketotek and it was useful watching you set yours up. I am using the Smart Life app which I think may be the same as Tuya. Very happy so far.
@SpeakToTheGeekTech
@SpeakToTheGeekTech Год назад
The Smart Life app is an unbranded version of the Tuya app that most companies like to promote the use of instead. Basically if you pick one or the other and stick with it you'll be fine! It's when you mix and match between them that it becomes complicated :)

@@SpeakToTheGeekTech Thanks for the reply. I have bought another Ketotek stat to run the water based central heating system, replacing a JG one. Hopefully heading for total remote management. Just looking at a way to replace another JG (Salus) stat for a wet UHF area but that may have to be proprietary as it links to a Salus control unit.

Hello, fello geek here and I brought the same device a couple of years ago and never installed.. Its a crisp day here today and the floor is freezing so going for it finally :) I'm in the process of removing the old one that I installed nearly 20 years ago now and noticed the only difference is the old one has 2 earth connections this new one doesnt have.. Does yours or do I not need them? If so any ideas what to do with the old earth cables? thanks Bob

I'll need to refer you to your local qualified electrician to help answer that. I swapped like-for-like connections so it was very straightforward for me, but I'm not qualified to provide you with electrical advice - I hope you understand, sorry.

Can this be used for a conventional boiler
@SpeakToTheGeekTech
@SpeakToTheGeekTech 7 месяцев назад
No it shouldn't, it's specifically for electric underfloor heating because it has a high power relay and a floor temperature probe. There are many other options out there for smart thermostats that work with normal boilers though, and Ketotek also do a variation of this one for controlling a boiler which is supplying wet underfloor heating. amzn.to/47CB9YZ

It’s not showing anything that interesting or useful I promise. This was more a review and overview video, not an installation tutorial as I’m not qualified to show electrical work

You can only add it to one user account, but once added you can create a 'home' and other users can join that home to control those devices.

Would you recommend these to replace my 6 non smart thermostats for my electric underfloor heating? They look fairly straightforward to install and I like the idea of being able to utilise them in smartthings
@SpeakToTheGeekTech
@SpeakToTheGeekTech Год назад
Still going strong for me so yes. Just make sure your UFH elements are within the current limit for the thermostat (16A) and that your existing floor sensor has the same resistance as the one supplied by Ketotek (unless you are replacing the floor sensor with the supplied one) - my sensor is cemented under tiles so that was quite important to check!

Why did you choose this over something like Drayton Wiser if you're planning on replacing your Honeywell system soon anyway?
@SpeakToTheGeekTech
@SpeakToTheGeekTech Год назад
Drayton wiser is basically just a more modern equivalent of my Evohome controls. When I replace my boiler with an ASHP I will use the pump’s own native controls at least to start with and get rid of Evohome (I won’t need radiator based zones then because it will reduce efficiency not improve it). This Ketotek controller is very good value just to control this one standalone zone that won’t be part of the thermal envelope once the heat pump is installed.

How do you do a factory reset

I've put the instruction manual up on my web site, see pages 11 & 12 (PDF pages 7 & 8) on how to select setting option AE which factory resets it: www.speaktothegeek.co.uk/2023/02/wifi-electric-underfloor-heating-ketotek-smart-thermostat/

What's the maximum current this thing will take? My existing system already pulls 3KW.
@SpeakToTheGeekTech
@SpeakToTheGeekTech Год назад
It's rated for 16A, so it is designed for a 3kW load maximum (assuming a drop down to 220v with rough maths!).

this is exactly what i want to do at home also here in Finland, and these are cheaper than a lot of alternatives. BUT, my current standard "dumb" electric thermostats have a third ground wire coming from both the life input and heating pad side. This device doesn't have an input for ground like the old standard ones do. Is this a deal breaker for choosing this route, or how should this be solved?

I think you've reached the point where I'd need to suggest you get the advice of a qualified electrocution, sorry! My personal rule is if I'm not 100% certain what I'm doing, get in a guy who does know!

Turns out the only difference is my dumb thermostat has 1 additional connection that receives the ground wire from the power and the ground wire from the floor mat together to ground them inside the thermostat. How is the ground handled in your setup if there is no connection or screw meant to connect the ground?
@SpeakToTheGeekTech

My UFH mats don't have a ground, just live and neutral

@SpeakToTheGeekTech
@SpeakToTheGeekTech 10 месяцев назад
I wouldn't know that sorry, it says it's specifically for underfloor heating so I'd suggest probably not - there are many other thermostats (such as ones by Heatmiser) which are designed to switch high power heaters.

Was hoping you'd show how to programme the weekly timing functions - Thumbs down for me..!
@SpeakToTheGeekTech
@SpeakToTheGeekTech 11 месяцев назад
It's not tricky to do that - the user guide is on my web site if you don't have that still (www.speaktothegeek.co.uk/2023/02/wifi-electric-underfloor-heating-ketotek-smart-thermostat/) and look at page 10. There are literally 4 steps listed in there! I don't enable the schedule personally - the reason I got a smart one is so as I can create automations in Home Assistant to control it that way, but there's no reason why you can't set it with schedules the old-fashioned way too.
