I set up the Unifi Nanobeam 5AC Gen2 Wifi Bridge System at my house, so I wanted to share why I went with this system and what the process is like to set it up in case you are looking to extend your wifi's range or send wifi to another spot on your property (or elsewhere.)

Used a lot of ubiquiti equipment and for most airmax is plenty of speed for the price. As far as the fiber goes you can buy set lengths that are terminated on each side. They do have fiber converters fairly cheap or you could get the modules for a switch with sfp capabilities.

@ 0:38 One possible solution to this problem is called an "Equipotential" ..... When pools are built, an equipotential is used. Basically, it's just an exposed copper wire in a trench surrounding the perimeter of the pool.

Ah man for the price of the Nanobeams, you could have hired a cabling guy to come and terminate the fiber if you had already burried and ran it. They probably would have just asked for cost of connectors and a few beers. I’ve done this for DIY’ers in the area, it takes a few min per connector and you don’t need special/expensive hardware to terminate a connector. (Fusion splicing is different from terminating ends for devices) Anyway, good video, best of luck

Why not Gigabeam? Why deploy the old slow stuff?

No point unless you really need the little extra bandwidth.

@@DPCTechnology fair enough, but $99 vs $129 is really not a big difference, especially considering you should be able to get double the throughput

First things first, whilst AirMax is loosely based on Wi-Fi, it isn't Wi-Fi, don't be that chump who can't tell the difference. The one on your house, move it to the barge board, hanging it isn't making that much difference. Make sure you don't have your Wi-Fi AP (WAP) near the PtP radio and keep channels seperated. Keep your Master (Sation) at the head-end / home, the bitch radio (client) at far end. Don't stress on DFS and channel selection, the radios will not use DFS unless it's a last resort. In yanky land, I think you can run 80MHz wide in PtP mode, this will fatten up your link. Turn the RF power up and make sure ATPC (Auto Transmission Control Power) is on with a target signal around -40 to -45. This will allow the radio to ramp up in heavby rain, smoke or fog to keep link and modulations up. LKeaving the network settings on basic will still allow seting a static address (in-band). For those not networking strong, leave it in basic. The radios will automatically transfer VLAN's providing you haven't screwed your network and its MTU. Power pass in NOT AF PoE, it is 24V passive, only suitable for some older UniFi flex devices or other UBNT radios. The TooughSwitch is not UniFi, it is edge. The USW-8-150 is the Gen1 equivelant and allows 24V passiove PoE needed for the radio, same as other Gen1 switches. Gen2 switches suck balls now that 24V has been removed. The radio link is designed as a transparent bridge, well fully if you don't mess with the network settings like you did. The Industrial switch has now replaced the 8-150, halfway between Gen2 and Gen1 but no 24V.
