I got my wii for christmas when I was like 6, and opened the wii wheel first, and what must have been my 7 brain cells went : "I can use this if I ever get a wii!" I was legitimately shocked 20 minutes later.

I begged my dad for weeks for the udraw pad and he said “you’ll never use it” but I assured him that I would. He finally got it for me and i used it once, thought it was boring and never used it again.

Being like 8 years old and wii fit telling you youre morbidly obese, then proceeding to spend the entire day doing the hula hoop game to try and lose weight in a day. Ah, childhood.

I remember chatting with my cousin over the Wii microphone while playing animal crossing city folk together. This was back before either of us had cell phones, so it was pretty much the only way we were able to talk to each other. I remember making my mom call my uncle to see if my cousin wanted to play with me, and we would hop on for hours until we finally said goodbye at the train station. I cherish these memories. Much simpler times.

The Wiimote port really is versatile, the only thing it's missing is a connection to God himself.

God idk how Scott pulls off making so many decent-length, evergreen videos week after week but I continue to be impressed. This video also made me consider for half a second collecting shitty Wii accessories and I don't think any person other than Scott could've come close to planting such a horrible thought in my head.

[17:17] Something even stranger is that the _second_ "Nerf: N-Strike" game came with a "red reveal" attatchment, which was essentially a clear piece of red plastic that you could flip up and look through. I wouldn't really call it "infrared" (mainly because I'm not sure if TVs back then were capable of it), but it's kinda close to an infrared vision in concept? This was basically required to actually play the game, as it revealed the weak points of certain enemies (which changed every time), so you were screwed if you lost it.

I remember as a kid my mum would never let me use the balance board. She occasionally used it with wii fit and we permanently kept it under the tv console so it was always in my line of sight when sitting on the couch. It always looked so fun so I wanted to stand on it and try use it but I think my mum was scared that I would break it so I was not allowed to stand on it. Sometimes I would sneak a little stand on it when no one was looking.

I actually love those "2 Blasters + Game" blasters, my go to Wii gun. Feels like they fit the Wii aesthetic too.

I always found so weird that the classic controllers had a lowercase a and b buttons but the normal motion controller had an uppercase a and b buttons.

Probably wasn't the actual reason, but I imagine one possible reason they used Link rather than Samus for the zapper pack-in could be that, because Samus uses a cannon that is just her arm, NOT using the wii zapper and just pointing with your arm would be more like how Samus actually shoots, and thus telling the player to use the zapper with a metroid game could therefore be seen as decreasing immersion, something i doubt Nintendo would have wanted with the pack in title for their accessory that is literally just for helping games feel more immersive

Correction: the Rock Band controllers actually didn’t plug into the Wii Remote like those for Guitar Hero. Instead they used wireless USB adapters that you could plug into the console, which meant you could play multiplayer right out of the box without needing to buy more Wii remotes.

I'm having serious nostalgia as I realize I was 16 when this system came out, and I love that there are commentators like him who are giving the younger gens their own sarcastic/light-hearted AVGN, like Scott; and I love even more so the 00s are now starting to become "classic". And now that I think of it, I am totally getting Sega's crappy add-ons/accessories vibes; I'm surprised they never tried to revive the Donkey Konga game.

Red Steel 2 was my favorite wii game. A sword fighting game really allowed the system to shine. Loved it as a kid

I actually had the remote charging station. Was kinda cool if you consistently used 2 Wiimotes that saved a ton on batteries. If you remembered to plug them back in at night you could always have a fully charged Wiimote that would last a solid week. The big problem with it was that if you stopped using your controllers for an extended time you couldn't play the game unless you grabbed a pair of batteries or waited for it to fully charge. They also came with their own backs so if you ever owned one you instantly lost the original backings so if you ever switched back to batteries, well tape is a magical invention. All my Wii remotes now have scotch tape on their backs to hold the batteries in. Also the lights on the charging station to indicate when it was charging (solid blue light) or fully charged (blinking blue light) were insanely bright. If your Wii TV was also used for late night movies a magazine to cover the station was absolutely mandatory or it would illuminate the entire room.

i remember my mum buying a wii balance board multiple years ago to "use with my workouts" she then proceeded to dig out her old weight set and use that instead. we never even set up the board, and it just kinda disappeared one day. rip that money lol

So basically for the past 2 or so years i had a really bad ear infection that went untreated and it completely clogged my ear so i could hardly hear and one of the jokes was so overwhelming it burst through the infection and i could hear perfectly. A horror game that knows when you’re scared or nervous? Heck yeah. That would be awesome. I’m not exactly sure what kind of mechanics you could do with that, but I bet that someone could come up with something.

I'm disappointed you didn't include the Resident Evil Blaster accessory!! It basically improved upon everything the Zapper failed on. Plus the Darkside & Umbrella Chronicles games were legitimately such an fun arcade experience.

Fun fact about the port! The snes, and nes classic controllers work with the port on the wii remote! So you can play the wii with an nes, or snes controller!

Watching this after Jschlatt hung a Babysitting Mama baby hits different.

There was an EA nhl game called Slapshot for the Wii that I loved. It came with a plastic hockey stick that you would swing to shoot, swing further back for slapshots and bring up to your chest and push with to check people. But what was really cool was when you played as a goalie, you would pull the nunchuck out of the stick and use that to simulate using your glove hand and the hand as your blocker. It was probably my most favorite hockey game yet

I work in a nursing home. Wii just acquired another wii after not having a working unit for some time. Our memory care residents really seem to enjoy it. While the switch has some of the same game play, it’s just not the same. I have a feeling wii will be buying these systems for a long time to come.

I loved and still love the Wii, Probably one of my favorite Nintendo systems.

I love the Wii Zapper. While, yes, it’s a bit less simple to put the Wiimote and Nunchuck in there compared to other accessories, having a real trigger like that made games like Link’s Crossbow Training and the shooting gallery in Wii Play a lot more fun, and having the Nunchuck attached like this was convenient sometimes. And yeah, you can even use it without the Nunchuck, which makes using it even easier! The only reason I didn’t use it that often was because there weren’t that many Wii games in my collection that had pointer-controlled shooting that didn’t also require a lot of use of the face buttons on the Wii Remote or motion controls for the Nunchuck.

I was very close to writing "The Gameboy Advance would like to know your location," but watching this and seeing just how many out there accessories the Wii got, I understand what you mean. If it doesn't rival the GBA, it passes it's record by a long shot.
