3:50 - a perfect traditional Nashville guitar solo from Nels Cline. Listen to just that, and you'd never dream of what kind of music he does when he's on his own.

Word. I was only listening but actually peeked at the video to see who the hell was playing it. To blow Jason Isbell off the stage is no easy feat.
@Baribrotzer
@Baribrotzer 2 года назад
@@johnlittle7473 And what's crazy in that Nels's own music is not Nashville C&W, nor anything like it - it's a rackety cross between avant-jazz and indie-rock, and he's been playing different versions of it for decades. Jeff T. recruited him into Wilco because he wanted both a musical "wild card" and someone who could REALLY play the guitar, and he got both. If you don't mind strange, no-rules, no-boundaries sounds, Nels's own catalog is well worth checking out.
@shable1436

He has played a ton of the dead from the sound, and not stuck up on pentatonic or flat picking scales that string bending often go back to after sliding octaves and chromatic runs

@gthogan

@@markmacrae2867 me too. I love listening to both of them play. While Nels Cline is probably better in terms of technical ability, Jason Isbell’s playing is superb here. I’m a huge fan of Cline, and I really appreciated the shots of him smiling and turning to listen to the other players’ solos earlier in the song. THAT is class and one of the reasons he will probably always have a gig for as long as he wishes to get out there and play.
