Tip for the Canon AE1 battery. Take four 357 watch batteries (hit up your local dollar store), stack them, and tape them together. They will fit in the battery slot and allow you to test basic functions like shutter function and metering. Metering won't be completely spot on, but it's close enough that you can use the camera. I use my AE1 like that since the proper battery is expensive and not worth buying (imo) for the slight improvement in metering quality. Love the vids! Cheers from the land of Canuckleheads.

👍Thanks for the tip! I’ve never really personally done a ton of film photography, but would like to explore in the future!

@@pricklypearcameraYou're welcome! I went through a film phase a few years back. Anything to make the experience more affordable was game, though now I've moved over to old digicams. Fujifilm Super CCD models are *chef's kiss*.

Don't think that is worth to craft your own replacement battery. Just buy an off-the-shelf 4LR44 battery that should not cost more than one or two bucks and will last quite a while (especially if you only use it for testing).

What I liked about some of those small Casio's was that some models had a high speed mode (to playback in slow motion) built in. Not many other camera brands had this fun feature.
@pricklypearcamera
@pricklypearcamera 7 месяцев назад
True! Some had great 60FPS-120FPS still shooting that was popular with golf swing instructors for example, like the Casio EX-F1
@kronos5385
@kronos5385 7 месяцев назад
I believe the EX-F1 had a mode that could shoot up to 1200 FPS but the resolution was about postage stamp size. I think you could capture a bullet in flight at that speed. The EX-F1 was a full size bridge type camera but I seem to remember that some compact size Casio's had high speed modes as well.

The 50mm f1.8 (or f1.7) was a standard lens in 35mm. Many SLRs came with it as standard, with either a faster (f1.4 or f1.2) or slower (f2) depending on price. In the early '80s, some manufacturers/dealers would offer a 35-70mm as an alternative.

Damn I really love those videos! It seems you have had all cameras now xD do you recommend something from Canon I can get used for around 350€ used? I’m trying to upgrade my Canon 60D and I really want to keep my EF Lenses, I looked at the 80D for example which looks quite good. Video mode is more or less uninteresting for me.
@pricklypearcamera
@pricklypearcamera 6 месяцев назад
Haha! Yeah, I've used a bunch! If you hadn't said you were looking at the 80d, that's actually the cam I'd recommend as you can find it right in that price range you were looking at of 350-400€. Gives you better low light performance, better autofocus (5x more focus points than 60d), more advanced Digic processor, and more. Good choice I think!

@@pricklypearcamera okay thank you! Yeah low light is horrible on the 60D I tried astrophotography with it and have so many red and blue dots with only 3200 iso from the sensor in my picture (I don’t know why, it’s only visible in long exposures, but the spots are always at the same place. And my 60D has only a 20.000 Shutter count which is not that high)

The large camera companies have failed miserably in their market research. Just take Canon which is the brand i am most familiar with as an example.. the last Ixus camera was released in early 2017 and from a design perspective it is one of the ugliest most plasticy looking digicams they made and in terms of features it didn't really stand out compared to models from even further back.. that camera despite being mediocre and from an aesthetics perspective ugly still sells for retail used. Other models that simply look cool sometimes go for twice the retail price one and a half decade ago. So what are they thinking exactly? The social media generation is hungry for these cameras.. if they would re-make those ultra-compact cameras from the late 00s with updated tech and features i am sure they would sell like crazy.. throw in a few "limited editions" in the mix and we could have a success story. We have a situation now where the local electronics stores are selling Chinese no-name digicams because they have done the research whereas sony, canon, nikon heck even fuji and olympus who have traditionally specialized in smaller formats have neglected it.
