Been eating hickory nuts 65 plus years vould write several books on how to use the many varieties of the species and the wood and bark and leaves and the animal community that thrive in the area
Hey, Cody. I've "rock bash" harvested these ever since I was a kid. Something that just dawned on me. Do you think roasting them over campfire would make them easier to remove or would it just make it more difficult?
Thank you! I found hickory nut shells all over my property that I just bought so that's why I looked up this video. I wonder if there are some nutcracking tools that would make it easier for my son to be interested in helping cracking the nuts
Have you ever heard of a "Pig- nut" Its a cross between a pecan and hickory tree that cross bred. They look like a pecan but are super hard shell, and dang sure bitter! I've only seen 2 trees like this in my life that crossed in the wild here in Oklahoma.
Chris here. Very cool meeting you. Very cool video in love how you explain the variety of different trees that are all kickery. It could become confusing without that detail. Really great video and simple to understand. I had a thought that maybe Gathering the nuts and bringing them home to a bench vise might be a more controlled way of cracking them between the jaws of the vice and maybe even put a pipe on the handle of device for extra leverage in control of the squeeze
