Hey, Cody. I've "rock bash" harvested these ever since I was a kid. Something that just dawned on me. Do you think roasting them over campfire would make them easier to remove or would it just make it more difficult?
Thank you! I found hickory nut shells all over my property that I just bought so that's why I looked up this video. I wonder if there are some nutcracking tools that would make it easier for my son to be interested in helping cracking the nuts
Have you ever heard of a "Pig- nut" Its a cross between a pecan and hickory tree that cross bred. They look like a pecan but are super hard shell, and dang sure bitter! I've only seen 2 trees like this in my life that crossed in the wild here in Oklahoma.

Really great video and simple to understand. I had a thought that maybe Gathering the nuts and bringing them home to a bench vise might be a more controlled way of cracking them between the jaws of the vice and maybe even put a pipe on the handle of device for extra leverage in control of the squeeze
