A straight forward walk and overnight on Meelmore becomes unsettling as Alyn is woken at midnight by strengthening winds. Low cloud stops him from walking out and instead he hunkers down for a fun night of crazy weather.
Alyn, cool that you felt and embraced that pull and seized the moment despite all those commitments👍 Honest and true words that sometimes being alone in the mountains (or elsewhere) can allow the mind to be filled by negative thoughts, despite the forceful healing power of nature👍 The Mourne Wall is a fantastic windbreak and cool that you were able to get some decent sleep for some part of the night💤 It sounded like you got plenty of recharging from your adventure, challenges and all - which is what it is all about👍 Loved that glimpse of golden light through the fast moving clouds☀👍
Gerry it was a really great experience (with hindsight). The walk was great, the feeling of being back out walking was great, the sense of space was liberating, camping was amazing and the weather just crowned it all. Sometimes life really can lock us in and there is nothing else to do but knuckle down and muddle through but when an opportunity to get some head space comes along you gotta grab it and get out. Best decision.
Well done lad. It’s common among us mountain lovers I’m sure. My intrusive thoughts are usually telling me to go back, that I’d never make it up that mountain. 5 or 6 hours later, shattered and smiling getting back to the car. Thanks for this. Well done again.
So true. I just wanted to lay down a marker for folk. I think we all have those doubts and critical voices in our heads, and its always good to have someone trustworthy to support us when we need it.
That was a lovely watch Alyn! Amazing how you got those little glimpses of the sun setting in the sky...what a treat 🤗 You are doing the mountains proud with your sharing and promotion...you're such a great advocate and voice to the power of time alone (or with others) in high places. What you get from the experience is clear....I think I might get the same thing!! And we get the added bonus of burning calories to allow for more chocolate 🤩🎉
Thanks Miriam. Thats so kind. I am a great believer in the power of nature to restore some balance and quiet to a busy mind. I've watched for years at work how people are affected by simply being outside- being in the mountains is that ++. Im also a great believer in the power of chocolate ha ha ha
Hi Alyn, lovely opening shots. You got a very windy night for it, fortunately the lanshan held up well. Its hard to get sleep on nights like that, but you looked like you enjoyed the experience. A night on the mountain is great for the mindset, whatever the weather. All the best and take care 👍

Thanks Gary. Its been a really busy period and I just had to get out into the mountains, they always bring a little clarity. The tent didn't quite make it unscathed, there is a rip 😢 thatll need repaired. Will be doctoring over the weekend. To be expected in that wind. And as for the caramel....

Oh Geoff! First of all hard luck on not spotting the caramel bar. Tha answer will be on the socials on Sunday and secondly, it was wild. All the chat to camera was really me just convincing myself I was OK!!!!! Ha ha ha

Have you tried ear plugs yet ? I couldn’t get to sleep without them now while camping . After Stephen Reid’s recommendation of the loop ones they are a bit expensive but really comfortable to wear and stay in all night 👍. Game changer 👌
Thanks for the recommendation but to be honest I love all the sounds, creeks and groans. Normally I dont have an issue sleeping but on a night like that it was kind of weirdly fun to hear the wind ramp up through the night. Lol.
