I'm Alyn Jones. I love being outdoors, I love being in wild places and I love walking and hiking. This channel is a place to find information about some of the amazing places to walk and hike across Ireland.
I'll share some statistics and review the routes. I'll include the amazing must-see bits and the pitfalls but I'll also highlight some of the nature that catches my eye, the food that fuels me and the friendships that feed my soul on the journey.
Class video Alyn, that sure makes a change from our wee mountains! Pete really is an inspiration, just shows what you can do if you are brave enough to follow your dreams! Great advice too about doing what makes you happy. Another great addition to your collection of videos mate!
@@IrelandOutdoors Thanks Gary. It was afantastic experience and Pete is an amazing guy. So great to have some time with him again. Yeah and he's become a bit of a sage too. Lol
What a trip that must have been Alyn! 😲 Pete is certainly living a good life having those mountains to play in year round. I always enjoy hearing of people who follow their passions in living their life!! 👏😎
It was Miriam. Fantastic. I couldve stayed a lot longer. There was so much more to see. I feel I only got to see a fraction of what the mountain had to offer but what a trip! Pete is a star. Youre absolutely right, he knew what he wanted to do and chased it and that makes him very happy.
@@thomasshafe super place man. Was a fantastic experience although I felt I only scratched the surface. So much more to see. Completely different to our Irish mountains!
@@patrickobrien8902 he's a total star. An absolute legend. He just oozes confidence and love of this life. Was a total pleasure to be here. Wish it could have been longer. Lol
@@tommycartmill878 aw man so beautiful. Pete is a total star and he is so passionate about the mountain and the mountain life. Wish I could have stayed longer. Lol
Beautiful video Alyn, always wanted to camp at that wee spot, looks class! I'm sitting sweating here of the coast of Spain and that swim in the pool looked so cool and refreshing! ATB m8, chat soon!
@@IrelandOutdoors Nice one Gary!!!!! I hope you have a great time. The pool was so good. V cold but might be my new hobby!!! Lol. That wee spot is a belter too. Super views but crazy midges.
@@MiriamKennedy ha ha ha ha. I tried to keep it PG. But it was so lovely after a warm, sweaty walk and a pretty sticky night in the tent to be in the cold waters of the river. The waterfalls are beautiful though and it was something different to go hunting for.
What a great and different way to explore an area you already know so well 👌 I'd say you needed that dip to cool off after fighting with your sleeping bag 🥵🥵🥵🤣 Another reason why I just stuff mine into the bottom of my pack 😊
@@nialloutdoors Niall, it was so great just to go exploring. I had a rough idea where I wanted to go but it was good to just go for a nosey. Bloody sleeping bag drove me mad.
@@daveandemmaoutdoors3171 Do you know, I'm not a hundred percent sure. I have done it before. The gates are closed at night though. Was a beautiful spot with a glimpse of the reservoir. Lovely to chill out too but the midges were a frustration. You couldn't sit too long. Lol
Hi Dave, I reached out to NI Water last year to ask about that and they said you shouldn't do it without letting them know. I think at a minimum you should let security at the gate know so they are not worried about someone being stuck in the car park overnight!
Hi Alyn. That is a nice subject to make a video about. Waterfalls and pools !! Lovely to see and hear. Nice views from your camp site. The expanding sleeping bag 😂 I don't know what's going on there 🤔. An enjoyable watch, all the best 👍
@@Andrew......... Thanks Andrew. I really enjoyed this one. Something a wee bit different. I liked the idea of not just crossing the river but exploring them and those ones coming into Silent Valley have some beautiful falls.
Nice one. The Mournes certainly have a lot to offer, and you're right, we're often so focused on the peaks we miss the other beautifull features tucked away in the gullies.
Brilliant video as ever. Funny enough about two weeks ago I took a wee dander in the same area and thoroughly enjoyed the waterfalls, as you say they weren't by any way in flood but they are beautiful to relax at and enjoy the peace, quiet and a wee bit of lunch.
Class Alyn, I’m sure it’s a great feeling to scratch that itch after the last attempt! Some lovely captures of the local wildlife, loved the 🐸 Haribo’s well deserved 😂
Thanks pal. You are absolutely right. It felt so good. Had become a bit of a mission so was good to be on that trail again. I was very good and only had the haribo, there was no caramel.
Congratulations matey!!! A challenge set and a challenge conquered really is testament to personal perseverance. We all have different limits. Regardless, its when we reach and pass our own limits is when we truly grow. I believe that through suffering, hardship and pain, it is then when we truly grow as a person. 👍
Thanks man. Was a super walk and a great day. I think the key was that feeling of unfinished business. We had a plan and a target we wanted to achieve and it didn't happen the first time. So it never came off the checklist. You just have to pick up where you left off and go again. Hiking isn't just a physical pastime it's a mental game too. Thanks for the support.
Job done Miriam. It was a brilliant day out. A great balance of challenge and pleasure. The weather was great and made the whole day seem leisurely. Brilliant
Thanks so much Joe and, glad you enjoyed it. I really enjoy making the videos. I dont film every walk I do but when I do its like there's another bit of my brain is switched on when I have to think about what I'm seeing and how I can share that with other people. I love it. I also love the editting, piecing all the footage together into the story. So much fun
Thanks Pat! Glad I was able to entertain you this Friday evenin. Was a brilliant walk. The weather was something else. Im still a little crispy ha ha ha
Aw Gary, stunning day. Great weather. Couldn't have asked for better and I admit I got a wee bit burned from that sun.🙄 Dillon and Pat are two great men, fun, great company, and mighty craic. Thanks for the encouragement.
Alyn, it is beautiful on the Galtees when you have the weather☀ to go with the fantastic walking👍 A lovely spot for a conversation with Dillon and Pat👍 Making time for the things you love, setting goals and challenges and fundraising for important causes all show the character and values that Dillon lives his life by👍 I love that thought of being free in the mountains - because I know it is true😊 An incredible and inspiring young man👍 That is some challenge coming up to run all the County High Points. Another cool interview in your series👍
Such an amazing guy, Gerry. He has his head screwed on alright. Galtymore was fantastic, the weather couldn't have been better. Dillon is so switched on, he's definitely one to be watching in the future.
Hi Alyn. That was an excellent interview. What an inspirational young man !! its hard to believe he is only seventeen. He has wisdom and maturity way beyond he's years. That is a big challenge he has coming up. Fair play to his father Pat for being so supportive with all the activities. They really are an inspirational duo. 👍
Unreal Andrew. What made the whole experience so special was his humility. He's such a great guy, interested and interesting. Pat and him are a real double act and the dynamic is so good to watch. He has a big future. The world is his if he wants it.
Lovely interview Alyn, Absolutely Brilliant ,well done to my Nephew Dillon and to my Brother Pat,,looking forward to your challenge, take care, ❤Helen xx
Hey everybody I have a correction for the video the info about the Bloody Bridge massacre is incorrect. I believed it was connected to the Excise men killing smugglers but it is related to a prisoner exchange. In 1641 there was an uprising started by Rory O'Moore (Irish Republican rebellion), the guys transporting the British prisoners, stopped and hacked them to bits. The British/Plantation prisoners were hacked to pieces and tossed over the bridge. There is a project called 1641 Depositions - Trinity College Dublin, that details the accounts.- Thanks to @footslogger_ni for the correction.
It's not a fail matey! Just one step towards completing it. Remember, if you don't doubt yourself at some stage along the way, you probably haven't set a goal challenging enough! Next time, my man.
Also, the story of Bloody Bridge is incorrect. It's related to a prisoner exchange - to do with British prisoners. In 1641 there was an uprising started by Rory O'Moore (Irish Republican rebellion), the guys transporting the "Brits", stopped and hacked them to bits. The British/Plantation prisoners were hacked to pieces and that's where they were chucked. There is a project called 1641 Depositions - Trinity College Dublin, that details the accounts. Just letting you know, that's why Bloody Bridge is actually called Bloody Bridge. 🙂 For the record, it is our shared history. I take neither side. It is what it is. History must never repeat itself.
Thanks for the encouragement. It felt horrendous the whole way along. I needed a week in bed to recover. Just a flu thank goodness. Will definitely be back to do the planned route.
I had to bail from a walk in snowdonia for similar reasons, but I was less stoic than you ;-) I am amazed how you kept being so positive.....Love the Mournes and the Brandy Pad, such a wonderful mountain area! Thank you and I hope you feel better now!
Aw well, I was very quiet in between recording lol. Thats how Uel knew I wasn't feelin great. Im usually the chatty one on a hike. Ha ha ha. You really do just need to be sensible at times like that. Know your limits and sometimes stopping and turning back is the best thing to do. Am feeling about 99% better, just a lingering stuffy nose
Felt rubbish the whole walk Gerry. Really took the shine off it. But I managed the trail itself, so that was something.. You are right though the peaks will still be there for next time.
Fair play Alyn, you still got to the destination so no way was that a fail! Hope you are feeling better now! Beautiful views along there looking down the valleys. Is it true the Herb Robert edible?
Gary, have never had such an uncomfortable walk. Just felt blah all day. Not pleasant. Havent heard about herb Robert being edible but you bet I'll be checkin it out.
All good now Martin. Thank you. Was a grey 10 days but up and at it again now. It was a nasty flu is all so took to bed. Wasn't a pleasant walking experience 😕
