If you love wild child I'd think you'd live St. Trinians. It's like wild child but camp and the MC is posh English being sent over to the worst school in the country run by her aunt.😂
This movie was my entire childhood, thank you so much for reminding me of how awesome it is. Rest in peace, Natasha Richardson, this was her last film before her untimely death.
My problem with Poppy’s dad sending her to boarding school is that he did it for his new wife I am sure Poppy has done worse things to deserve boarding school, but his final straw was at his new wife was going to be offended. He’s been a bad dad since then.
The father was probably struggling with being a single dad for a while and his daughter acting up and this was his last resort you might not have that understanding but I know exactly how it feels to be her never having a mother in my life
@@LifeOFTorii then he should have BEEN sent her to boarding school to feel a connection to her mom. Not bc he just got married and doesn't want his new wife to deal with a dramatic step daughter. Why was it a new woman coming in your life that made you want to help heal your child???
The “What is this? Hogwarts?” line is made funnier by the fact that the character Matron is played by the actress who played Moaning Myrtle in the HP Movies. 😂 Shirley Henderson ❤ great actress I loveddd this video!! Cracking job 🎉🎉
I found this movie a few years ago and have seen it 15+ times. Its got everything you could want! British boarding school (im British and grew up reading enid blyton boarding school childrens stories so i particularly love it), female friendship, romance, comedy and coming of age. I wish more movies nowadays could take themselves as unseriously as older movies did, like She's the man and Selena Gomez's amother Cinderella story.
Selena Gomez’s another Cinderella story is my Roman Empire. I literally watched this movie hundreds of times. It’s so unserious and funny, perfect feel good movie. 😂
i absolutely loved this video would love to see more y2k movie videos, wild child is such an iconic film - if you haven’t seen it I would recommend angus thongs and perfect snogging its a bit cringe but so hilarious and a great story 🩷
Love the look, love the movie, love the video, but those birds that Harriet has in her introduction scene are pheasants, not turkeys 😅 a different bird that are commonly seen in the British countryside. Also very delicious. Also edit to add. The scene where the gang go to a charity shop (the cancer research one) was filmed in Haworth, where the Brontë sisters lived! The cobbled street is iconic and used in To Walk Invisible, a biopic about the Brontës
56:36 lmao 😂you got me here for whatever reason i couldn’t stop laughing especially when it immediately cut to that scene like you couldn’t even defend it 🤣 i love you Luke
I went to boarding school and can vouch for the weird fact that communal bath time is, in fact, a thing. There were only so many baths and they were all in one room. We were each assigned a ‘bath night’ (we had showers on other days) and baths were like a treat but you had to share the room with other girls also having a bath. You also had a very strict time limit because other girls were coming in to use the bath after you! Boarding school is so weird… 😂
love love love this movie. pls do aquamarine soon though, i used to rent it every weekend at sky (its like direct tv) and sometimes the people in there gave us free weekends with it bc of HOW MUCH i watched it. i was like 10.
Luke you look so cute. I haven’t seen Wild Child in years but it was great to see how much you love it. Please more videos on 90s and mid 2000s teen and romcom movies. ❤
12:00 The phrase "she was a grade 1 a**hole with a severe attitude no problem" from the movie "Wild Child" is a colloquial expression used to describe someone who is extremely unpleasant, rude, or difficult to deal with. In this context, it suggests that the character in question has a very bad attitude and is not easy to get along with. The use of "grade 1" emphasises the severity of the behaviour, indicating that it is of the highest level. It's essentially a strong and colourful way of expressing extreme negativity about the person's behaviour.
When I had my first computer I had like 5 movies downloaded which I used to watch all the time, and this was one of them! This is such a comfort movie now for me!!
Omg I saw the thumbnail and was instantly transported to a forgotten memory of my childhood 😂 I loved this movie lol. Also you look amazing today!!! The colours make me so happy. Hope you're having a great week! ❤
The SECOND LOOK AGHHH Also the hips-head tilt scene lives rent free in my head. I didn't even remember it was from this movie lol. Also now I know why Say It Right is one of my fave songs, I must have seen it here so many timesssss
hi! the 'war cry' dance at 56:33 seems to be a very bad impression of a haka, which is a traditional maori ceremonial war dance involving chanting that we have here in aotearoa, new zealand. it is meant to be a sign of the iwi's (tribes) pride, strength and unity, and isn't cringy at all! the 'war cry' haka in this looks a lot like cultural appropriation and definitely is not just 'heavily cringey' as you said, but also incredibly offensive to our culture in nz! love this movie but that absolutely took it down a lot.
I remember finding this movie for the first time and being properly obsessed with it! Still such an iconic and quotable movie! I remember losing my marbles when I saw that Matron was played by Shirley Henderson, aka none other than Moaning Myrtle herself! But I didn't know that THE Natasha Richardson of the Parent Trap was the headmistress!!! Wonderful video, Luke, and I look forward to the release of the newest Vampire Diaries deep dive!
19:43 if you read St Clare’s by Enid Blyton you would know what’s going on in that scene 🤭 (the series is for kids but I still highly recommend reading it) According to wikipedia: Fagging was a traditional practice in British public schools and also at many other boarding schools, whereby younger pupils were required to act as personal servants to the eldest boys.
You are the moment Luke!!! You look so iconic just like this movie! Obsessed how your shirt is similar to Poppy’s outfit when she arrived to the school!!! I forgot how much my subconsciously remember all of the movie but haven’t seen it since I was young gal
this was one of the few movies from that era i actually saw at the theatre and i loved it so much. its such an insane time capsule and godddd dont you just love cheesy coming of age films 😮💨💖
One thing I don’t understand even after watching multiple times is did Harriet print out the fake email? And then deliver it to the girls and they just didn’t question why or who someone would print out her email like obvi that seems like a set up right? The fact that it’s from her email is legit but why wouldn’t they question the fact that it’s printed out lol
Before I watch the video, I just wanna say, I have not watched your channel since like...2018, maybe a little bit during the 2020-21 lockdown when I was revisiting booktube so clicking on this video I am SHOOk. You Makeup is amazing and the long hair suits you so well????
Please do Angus thongs and perfect snogging. That’s the other yk2 movie I class together as top tier British girly chick flick 💕 I loved your commentary!
Unfortunate that you’re closing the door to the fanfic-movie genre, I think it would’ve been fun to see you react to the After series and maybe even The Kissing Booth trilogy edit: for this genre you definitely NEED to react to Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging. Also IDK if it would fall into this category, but also a reaction to LOL would be fun. Aside from She’s the Man, it’s my next favorite teen movie
Gosh, I watched this movie for my tenth birthday with a bunch of my friends and mother :‘D what a nice memory. I remember us being so shocked at the first word in the movie being ‚shit‘ aghdjjdk
When I first found this film, it didn’t bother me. It does now and that was Poppy being cut off access to her therapist. Like she went a whole school year with all these emotional discovery and she doesn’t have that person to talk it out?
