When Carrie pulled out her Iron Maiden record, I felt simultaneously that the world stopped making sense and that suddenly everything makes sense. I know that sounds idiotic, but I have been such a huge Maiden fan for years, and I like lots of metal, but I also like lots of hip hop, and indie music, and I guess I naturally compartmentalized all these different genres in my mind. Like I would never make a Playlist that had Metallica and Lupe Fiasco, but I love them both. On some level I know it's all music, and maybe it's just commercial marketing that makes me want to separate it all into polished little categories, like each one exists in a vacuum, never to be combined, pretending that they never influence one another. Carrie holding up that record just made the world a better place. Now she just needs to put a bird on it.....
Franco Estrubia you must think the hate is only one sided? Metal heads think this style of music is amateurish at best. I don’t agree with it but why can’t we enjoy both without being so snobbish about it. The beauty of life is we can enjoy different things.
That's a good idea. Something we can consider incorporating into Amoeba.com. We do list the artist's picks there, but we don't currently mention the audio clips we choose.
It's beautiful how real music appreciation by respected artists can be shared with us. No fkn music industry/pseudoscience labeling shit to dictate what we should buy/hear/taste.
This was such a fun episode. Man, Wild Flag came and went too quickly. I loved the hell out of that album when it first came out and still do today. Depressing to think we'll likely never see them do anything as a group ever again. :(
Mary Timony is on a whole other level, if you revisit what she did through out the 90's and early 2000's. It makes me sad to see her just banging out chords and going "garage." I'm glad she's happy, but the melodies and music she created with her guitar, keyboards & voice, back in the day was incredibly imaginative and unique.
Ex hex is okay. And yeah, I've listened all of her stuff that she's put out but I think @razorjules was referring to Ex Hex being less creative. I think there's some to truth to that. It's still good guitar work, but it's not breaking any boundaries like her previous body of work. Don't get me wrong though, I love Mary and she can do no wrong. If she's happy doing it then more power to her.
You don't have to, but it would be appreciated if you could put up the song titles along with the band names. With some songs it isn't neccesary, like Run To The Hills, but the ones where the musical excerpt is only instrumental and thus leaves nothing to get a title on, like Giles Giles and Fripps, could very well prove to be a bitch to find. Regardless, thanks for helping me and many others find good new bands.
pretty lame, first that these ladies can't find anything after 1985 to like, and second that nostalgia cycles being what they are, the only things left from
Man…you blow. Lighten up. One thing to say lame but you call them dishonest too? So you say their taste sucks…but not only that they’re lying about it too? Issues Alert! I hope you’ve lightened up the last 8 years since your post. 😊
