In autumn of 1999 Julia Roberts came to live among the nomads of Mongolia and discovers their special relationship with the wild horse.
Mongolia is home to the only true wild horses known to still exist. Julia Roberts, who shares a passion for horses with the Mongolian people, went there to sample life as a nomad on the steppes of central Asia and learn first hand why the wild horse has been an integral part of existence there for millennia.

Life is not about what you have, it is about the feeling towards what you have. Mongolians owes so little, as Julia Roberts said, there is no privacy, no lock at the door. We aren't afraid if anyone will rob us. Because there aren't things they can really take. Because all we have is each other and our animals. Nothing more or less respect, love and strength.

An amazing documentary and thanks to Julia Roberts for sharing her adventure. I love Mongolian, the land, the horses, the sheep, the family, nature, ger. it's amazing, the 1800 pioneers in america should of learn to use the ger. it's warm in winter and cool in the summer. They didn't need dirt and all the bad insects. Love every bit of Mongolia.

I first saw this documentary when l was in grad school doing my Ph.D. in Philosophy (U. MD, at College Park). My jaw dropped. I'm in love!! 😍❤️ Of course I knew about her filmography, and her dazzling career. But l brushed most of the films aside (the snob in me 🧐), though Mystic Pizza, Erin Brockovich, Eat Pray Love, and August:Osage County really stood out for me, and l got to totally appreciate her depth and substance as a serious character actress. But this is on a whole other level. I see parallels between her and Heddi Lamar (glam movie star whose real passion was in invention and electrical engineering). Julia Roberts could've easily pounded out a Ph.D. and been an equally successful academic (and who knows, she may decide to do that as well!) But wow, what a beautiful, down to Earth soul. While l was in grad school, l had this silly adolescent fantasy of hanging out with her at a Dunkin Donuts or something for a few hours, and the funny thing is l bet you she's the type of person who would just do that! There are actually some interesting parallels we share: 1) She graduated a year behind me at a nearby "rival" H.S. (Campbell), l went to Chamblee H.S. 2) She briefly attended GSU while l was going to Georgia Tech, and we both commuted on the same route (we come from broken homes, and my Dad lived in Smyrna, where she's from, and sometimes l stayed at his place). There's a high probability our paths literally crossed on many an occasion during those days. Add to that, my Mom was attending grad school at GSU at the same time, and l used to go down and see her alot in GSU's urban campus. 3) One of my Master's degrees is from Emory University (an M.T.S.) and l specialized in Hindu-Christian studies. I teach seminars in Hinduism and certainly Julia's name comes up, re.: her conversation and practice of Bhakti! 4) l was engaged for a while to someone from Scotland, interesting to know her Scottish heritage (along with the German and English, which l share as well--l was actually born there). 4) Julia, my invitation's still on! I teach at Starkville MS, at MSU. If you ever get tired of the limelight, c'mon down and grab a cuppa coffee and a bowl of grits down at the Starkville Cafe! We'd love to have ya come visit, honey 😍

A very informative and entertaining documentary.I recently read some nonsense about miss roberts wanting her trailer moved because meryl streeps trailer was 2 feet closer to the set of 'august;osage county' than hers.I simply cannot believe that an 'A' lister that is prepared to kneel in poo and use a communal toilet could really be like that. Her genuine warmth toward her hosts comes through.A talented actress and a talented documentary maker.
