I find this quite upsetting - How could someone that beautiful, that talented ever come to the conclusion that he did? Do we really know anyone at all? Twenty years gone in 2017 - Just listen to that desolate final note and you realise what has been lost.
I can remember when the Associates broke onto the scene in the early 80's... they were a breath of fresh air.... so original & unique....... what a loss.
Each time I hear Billy sing this particular song, it brings the tears to my eyes. A voice so powerful and like a voice of an angel. His music and his voice lives on in our hearts. Thank you so much for letting us all see and hear this truly amazing live performance...
This is classic Billy at his best. Look, 18 carat and party fears are all good, but this is Billy at what he is good at. He is the voice and always will be
This is just one beautiful song that no one seems to mess up. Johnny Mathis , Nina Simone, Billy, Bowie and George Michael all did great versions of it and I'm sure there are many more. If there's anyone out there that could put them all together that would be some choir of angels. I can imagine all of them singing it together up there in the wind and the clouds somewhere.....
One of my favourite Bowie tracks - and I'm reeling from his death yesterday - but Billy's version is even better: another heartbreaking loss, nearly 20 years now. :(
Hey cool it with the wig business. Think about what can be salvaged from this man. I will personally never forget this great man. Not only did he have a voice to die for but he wrote some beautiful songs too.
to anyone who feels the need to slate a performer/performance on yt,... if you don't dig it either click off or fuck off. or maybe film yourself doing better then let others judge you. Billy was a truly original and inspiring artist to many... and still is. the posts on yt are shared for positive reasons...so why the negatives. just click on what you know cause your narrow minds will never grow..
This is such a superb song, given a masterful rendering by Billy. Few professional simgers could hold a note the way he holds it from 3.42!! If only he was around for longer.
Oh Billy, why did you have to do it son. He must be among the best singers the world has ever known; if he but knew it. "You touched me..." God love you.
That was a wig. Bono of U2 in a book said he tried to copy Billy Mackenzie's style. he had one of most unique and powerful voices in popular music. He had more talent in his short life than you have have in your little finger Adam. RIP Billy Mackenzie can't believe it's 20 years on the 22nd January 2017 since you tragically left.
MegaDJmixmaster A "wig"...? Get out of here, I thought it was a guinea pig! 😀 Luckily for Bono, he never mastered his style.🙀 imagine where he would be today? 💀And I really have to agree with you about his "talent" comparision; his short life and my little finger... 😄😅😆😅😆😄😄
Easy to see you live up to your name Adam B'stard. Billy was a wonderful person and you certainly are not judging by your comments. There were far more artists in the early 80's who tried to copy Billy's style but could never come near his vocals and his talent. You Adam are a chunt. Bowie even praised Billy's versions of his songs.
Bernard Butler and Billy worked together for a short while. Billy quit the project, and David McAlmont was recruited. Fact. And yes, its a wig. Billy used to refer to this performance as "Wild is the Wig".
@caltontongs73 I think there's an element of hommage to Bowie in the head to toe outfit Billy is sporting. The hair is very David Jones transitioning into David Bowie...
I loved this when David Bowie sung this in the 80's. Later discovered it was a Nina Simone song and all the more deeply beautiful. B-MacK does it justice with this rendition.
Poor, my arse. I do listen to 18CLA, thanks, on a frequent basis. I love that AND I love Billy's version of WITW. It's pointless to compare the two songs though, they are like the proverbial chalk and cheese.
no..whether you like his music or not, you have to agree hhe had a fantastic voice and writing talent. there are many of his tracks i personally dislike, bbut what a voice.
+Dan Hunter Have to agree. Buckley was immense but if anything McKenzie was even more... rarified. Of course I'm biased cause I'm Scottish, but still...
"Too much sentiment"? Such a ridiculous thing to say. He's a torch-singer, for godsakes. A crooner. It's not for nothing he wrote for Shirley Bassey. He's not Mark E. Smith.
What a singer! My goosebumps are in tears...great to hear it live, even better than the recorded version, but why is he wearing that stupid wig?? Thanks for posting!!
Scott Walker meets Jeff Buckley in the dark room. Just joking. I have been in love with his voice and music for since the mid80s now. Bowie´s version of this Toimkin classic is rather different but also very good if not better. From Billie i prefer Gloomy sunday. i won´t get much glommier than than that. Lush fin de siecle - perfect if you think about drowing yourself
