Howdy! My name is Camille and I have a passion for gentling wild mustangs. Wild horses and burros are overpopulated in the western United States, so to keep population numbers from rising, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) periodically gathers wild mustang and offers them for adoption to eligible homes. I train mustangs to make them suitable for domestic lives and to show the world how amazing these underdogs can be. Subscribe to follow along with my mustang journey!

It sounds like your surrounded by very talkative cardinals. He's such a sweet boy who has liked to runaway when scared. You can see he wants to run every inch of him is tense. I had a mare years ago that would flip over backwards if she felt trapped. I never got her to except a hard tie with a short rope. The way he carries himself so reminds me of her.

Camille, I watch training videos every day, and your methods are the best. You really read horses’ body language. You show the most solid foundation to make the horse a friend yet you remain its leader. Your methods are not the fastest because you take the time to build its trust.

sleek and shine garnier frutis ..or frizz ease .itss a great slick detangler.its a human product like silicone? its really slik not like oil..rub it in and work though the tangles with a gaie brush.( one with the rounded dots on the bristles that is rubber in the middle..once you get it comed out it wont tangle or the few it gets will come right out. walmart about 7 bucks..then you can use your expensive green horse on him ..( without using all your good product to get the tangles out ) then maintain him with the more expensive stuff..lol

I thought you used the long reach whip (I’m totally calling it the wrong thing here) as an extension Of your arm to initially get a booo from, then touch their body and the face. It doesn’t seem like you have used this approach here ?
@CamillesMustangs
@CamillesMustangs 3 года назад
Because he is headshy i elected to approach his shoulder and neck first. I get back to approaching his face by the end of the video and we do a lot more of that going forwards.

@ 32:55 nice big release of pressure (excellent job!) and he finally licked and chewed - even if just for a bit.....don't you find that the really scared, wild, head shy ones require a huge release of pressure especially at the beginning......or they get worse rather than better first? I have one now that I had to work with from outside the corral first, as being inside with her was too much pressure - but she soon realized what i was asking for and she had the most lightning bolt tongue licking motion - just one - but it was enough I knew she got it.....then I finally was able to go inside with her..... still a long ways to go, but the way will be fun and rewarding. Keep up the great work!

Could he have been bitten in that area, or a kick healing up by his face!!??....I have seen som of the other herd mates get fresh with one in particular, and he might have suffered a bad slam or nip close to his face....it will make them shy and make a fast turn-away to keep from getting another injury!....last weeks work was good and he was being receptive!❤️❤️

Question: How come you want him to turn his face towards you?
@LM_Horsemanship
@LM_Horsemanship 3 года назад
That’s a great question! I am not a horse trainer so I could be wrong, but from what I understand him turning his face in would be a sign of submission and acceptance of her presence. Kind of a sign of relaxation and willingness to be curious which is really important when training a horse.
@horsequeen7642
@horsequeen7642 3 года назад
@@LM_Horsemanship Oh I see! I know a lot about how to use body language and how to read a horses body language but I don’t do this stuff a lot! So thank you!!

It’s also a form of respect from the horse. Turning their butt to you can result in a double barrel kick which puts you in danger.

With a horse that's this reactive, have you ever tried modifying your scent, ie. not eating meat products before working with him, and/or rubbing hay all over before your training session? Make yourself smell like less of a predator until he relaxes around you.

I'm not sure I'll be able to see this one through. I understand there's a time limit and all, but he just doesn't seem like a good candidate for it. He just really seems to need someone who has the time to take the time that he needs. He's stressing too much being pushed and rushed. Nothing against Camille or the horse. It just doesn't seem like a good situation. It's sad really.

Would also like to point out, if you follow Camille's Instagram account you'll know that she is a lot further into his training than this older video suggests. She has been on him, saddled, his first show. He is doing super, the confidence she is trying to build here has clearly paid off.
