For somebody who learn to ride almost at the same time I'd learn to walk, and due to the " dynamics of life " haven't smell their sweet and jump in one's back; this documentary is very emotional.

The government needs to leave the wild horses alone, let them be free as they were meant to be! Stop rounding them up and taking their land, freedom and families!
@dinadunlap3971
@dinadunlap3971 5 лет назад
Absolutely I agree, if anything they should put water wells out there for them and things to help them to continue to be wild. The government has to touch everything, and with that being said, that's why the world is in trouble now. The wolves in the wild oh, the lions like everything they should leave alone. If anything make it a national park! I agree with you wholeheartedly 100%

I love horses, and I'm glad to see people working with the government to find a place for these animals. But as romantic as this video is, we still need to remember that horses are an invasive species to the Americas. They never should have been turned loose to begin with.
@antoviracres3432
@antoviracres3432 9 лет назад
The cattle that compete with these horses are an even worse invasive species and are far more destructive to the grass lands....let's remember that as well. They do more harm to the ecosystem than any band of wild horses....and the wolves, bison, coyotes and other animals that are killed as a result of the cattle farmer's demands and desires are the biggest victims...

Not, Invasive means a species that did not evolve in the ecosystem. Horse pictographs, bones, hair have been found here dating before the spanish, 1000 to millions of years. Their teeth and the type of grasses etc evolved together in harmony. They are as Native here as all other native animals. And HERE in the Americas is their first and continual evolutionary home. We are finding out more everyday (as long as this info is not destroyed by the cattle industry).

wild horses may have been descended from the spanish horses but scientists have proven the horse first was here in the americas and then travelled over the bering land bridge to asia and other countries - many wild horses carry the markings of these first horses - the dorsal stripe and stripes on the legs
@hannahmarie1155
@hannahmarie1155 5 лет назад
If they don't round them up, then ranch owners ruthlessly kill them because they tear down fences and eat all the grass. So would you rather them go to homes where they don't get killed out of trying to get food OR get killed because they are looking for food?

well what about keeping them in their herd somehow? 80 /80 how about a family per owner so they stay true to themselves. They should really just be let go
@thomasrobinson9513

I hate to break it to you but these animals are not wild mustangs. They are feral horses. Horses that were farm animals that have gone native. The true Wild Mustang is a small animal. They are the descendants of the animals that the Spaniards brought over on their tiny ships used to harass and conquer the indigenous people of south America. When the missions were abandoned the Spanish let them go free. They are very rare and found along the Mexican boarder and further south. These creatures that you are showing are several times the size of a mustang. They are ecosystem disasters. They trample and compact the earth. Because they breed so quickly the herds grow very rapidly. They compete with other wild animals for food, which is scarce in the south west. They act aggressively toward the pronghorn, deer and moose. Some wild horses are spectacular but having no natural enemies they over take other wild animals territories. They are a scourge and need to be culled, deeply. They are just the garbage from settlers and irresponsible people. Be clear these "wild horses" are as much of an invasive animal as starlings. Some years ago I participated in horse round up as some people wanted to buy them. Very few were adopted. And as I followed the progress of some of these animals I found that these horses were generally neglected and starving. Like most other attempts these efforts were terribly wrong. Some well wishing people bought a few animals but as usual when it came to the work and expense of caring for them sent them back to the plains. It is a fact that these animals are not good for anything but the Alpo solution. They are seldom tamed, they eat a great deal and need to be taken out of the plains. Some might be used for breeding but they not do well in captivity. People need to wise up about this and other plagues that we have inherited from irresponsible people. Our scrub plains and wetland are truly under threat of these animals. As they consume so much, far more than any other animals in these habitats. It's a shame that folks don't want to take responsibility and just set their problems free to disrupt the natural balance. Thanks Steve H.

Steve cattle eat just as much and there are more cattle on the range than horses. Plus they are good horses if trained properly . Will walk or run a quarter horse into the ground .

NO to path forward! If this passes it means that 200000 horses will be rounded up over time and it will be the destruction of our beautiful wild horses; fight the BLM plan; advocate for NO to PATH FORWARD!
@rucerius4968
@rucerius4968 3 года назад
Is it better to round up and find homes for 200000 feral horses, or to let them over graze their habitat and die from starvation? There are already more horses than the habitat can support, birth control methods have (and still are) been tried and are ineffective. In the past the herds were culled (read killed) to keep the population in check. In 1971 a law was passed that banned the killing of these feral horses. Since birth control is ineffective the only options we currently have are to either capture and tame them or let them die of starvation. Which do you prefer?

I don't see what the big deal is. They're no different from feral dogs or cats or pigs.

By definition, feral is born wild. Otherwise, it's abandoned, dumped, thrown out, stray, etc. I.e., no different from dogs and cats.

+Dana Fisher Right on the money. I love horses, but they're a feral invasive species and don't belong in the wild. Especially at taxpayers expense....
@danielthomas3333

I can’t repeat this too often. The “wild” horses are feral horses not “wild” The original ancient wild horses have long been extinct. There’s another factor involved. The Great Plains grasslands are suited for grazing by bovines not equine. Bovines, e.g. cows don’t have upper incisors and don’t cropp the grass as short. Horses have lower as well as upper incisors and graze down to the growth buds. If left unchecked, horses will make a desert of the Great Plains. The native buffalo being bovines, live in balance with the grasses. The so called wild horses are a man made ecological disaster. In effect they are a vermin, just like rabbits were in Australia. Rabbits were introduced to Australia by Europeans. The solution to the rabbit infestation was to introduce a horrible disease called Myxomatosis. I have seen first hand the effects, it ain’t pretty. The answer is not to romanticize the mustangs but to humanely reduce their numbers. If they were rounded up and castrate the stallions before release it would probably do the trick. As for horses for recreational use we have too many of those already, if you include race horses that don’t make the grade.

These are not Mustangs, these are mostly abandoned domesticated horses, TBs, QHs, etc... true Mustangs should be full Spanish blooded, not these Cayuse types.
@noone-qr9lp
@noone-qr9lp 8 лет назад
That is true, horses originally came from the Iberian Peninsula wich is basicly Portugal and Spain.
@Race62hud
@Race62hud 7 лет назад
Not really. all horses are of the same species, there is no such thing as Spanish blood or cayuse blood. there are specific characteristics do to breeding but they are all the same horses. There really is no such thing as a domestic horse or human interference in breeding. they are all wild animals that are very adaptable to living with other species easily (domestic), What you describe is simply human kinds desire to classify for our purposes the status of certain animals. Abandoning domesticated horses on public land is so rare that it has no effect at all on any population on any herd that is not manipulated by humans extensively. DNA markers to put horses/animals into a specific area is once again our desire to classify. The Iberian horse came from North america so so-called Spanish blood is actually North/South american blood if you go far enough back. :)
@adelking66

not really, true Mustang should be full with North African blooded , there is no such a Spanish blood, Spain did exist after year 1500 AC
