Helium brings me back to my earliest inspirational days from Reeps One... Zer0 has done the same for me over the years. Watching these guys livestream and play with their mind is just unreal.
Thank you very much for your reaction! I'm very pleased!!! 🙏🙏🙏 And yes, I did 418 takes and spent a week recording. I can't say the takes were bad, but I just wanted to make it as perfect as possible. The main goal of this video is to show that musicality is built not only on melody and harmony. But musicality can be built on rhythm, accents, pauses, with a small number of notes. But the right arrangement of all this gives us musicality. Thank you champ 🙏
As helium said in the comments, in case dlow didnt check, Helium was trying to prove that there is musicality in a set with minimal pitching, that the complexity of the beat and the usage of silence is musical itself. Which he 100% definitely proved. So insane.
he proved it but it was a risky experiment. deep down its very clear that its possible to reach a better level of musicality without minimal pitching that helium used. i appreciate the effort but he really could've achieved more in musicality the other way. personally i didnt like that he experimented and risked his rankings at a massive competition like gbb but i respect his bravery lol just my random thoughts tho i still loved his R2
@@MajuhsAlt I find that the beatbox notion of what is and isn't "musical" actually contradicts with actual music in a very ironic way. like, there are an uncountable number of songs across many different genres that lots of people enjoy where melody, chord progressions and the pop or dance music structure aren't the focal point of the music, and all those songs are still considered music. but somehow in the beatbox world, being more "musical" means making a pop song in 4/4 with a melody and a hook, and everything else loses you points on "musicality". it's very strange to me
@@GlossArt nono i agree, but at the same time music doesnt mean musical. beatbox is music but doesnt always gain points in musicality because it isnt very musical the same way you said people enjoy songs without melodies, chord progressions, etc and still call it music is valid because it is music but is it musical? i believe the concept of musicality is more subjective than objective so theres always gonna be ups and downs as for you saying "everything else losing you points on musicality" is also valid but at the same time its being judged its not possible to confidently give helium 9/10 or even 8/10 when there are many beatboxers who are performing their music in a better style of musicality then him. if there are a dozens of people with 8/10 musicality and have set the bar too high for helium to reach than its not his fault that his routine isnt "musical" enough. its the competitions which is extremely hard to compete with thats why i said it would be easier to achieve musicality through the use of more pitchings unlike the way helium did with minimal pitchings. his R1 wildcard was a amazing example of musicality. sorry for the rant haha
That's fair. I was going off of just the idea I had in my head of the word musical, but as it turns out, there are actually two definitions, one being "relating to music" (which is the definition I had in my head), and one being "melodious or tuneful", which I suppose is the definition judges are using to make decisions, so that's on me. I still think that deciding that something being more melodious makes it inherently better doesn't vibe well with the idea that all forms of beatbox are music, but I do understand where you're coming from
@@MajuhsAlt If you're at the level of technicality helium is at then it isnt risky at all. I agree with all that you said as well tho. It's just that since beatboxing is turning into a field where artists can create songs with beautiful melodies, people who stick to the " original " form of beatboxing such as helium and alem somehow are considered low in musicality. Take this for example, Drummers especially in the jazz are of music are considered to be one of the most complex musicians in the world. they are using the same kit with such level of complexity in timings with polyrhythms, they play with ghost notes and more things like that. So we can ask if in the world of beatboxing which is originally done to imitate drums, is it not musical if they can be extremely complex with how they use their sounds. I myself is a drummer so I extremely appreciate the message that helium is delivering here and dont think that it is risky at all. If you wanna listen I suggest listening to larnell lewis drum solo.
h has surprised me the most i have to say, alltough i really didnt lke his first set and didnt have him in my top 25,his second round is absolutely insane.
@@cheesemaster3187 honestly tho, how do you not like H-Has round 1, it's one of the most crackheads I've heard in the last couple of years during wildcards sessions
Helium's 1st was waaay more groovy, but 2nd... what a tech piece, what a statement. I don't vibe to it, yet I'm super drawn to just replay it for dozens of times, admiring the sheer insanity of this piece. I wonder if he'll end up at 2nd or 3rd overall.
Helium is a thinking man's beatboxer. He is so technical and precise, but is such a deep thinker and creative musician. Love his style, how he expresses the art form and explores new territory
The fact that Helium is creating a beat that could be played at raves without anyone realising its not electronic is just beyond insane. Everytime I hear Helium I crave for him to step on stage at a rave nearby and just blast the roof off the place
@@Anikkk787 Zero is crazy technical yeah but again not as clean as Helium's drums. And he's less of a drum focused beatboxer, more house vibes and attention to details in his beats.
i love you rambling about beatboxing, it definitely isn't boring. for me it's the most interesting part of your videos. you're thinking differently and you're going more into details, making connections that others don't. that's what also makes your beatboxing so special. i also think your way of perceiving is similar to mine, that's why I find it so interesting
Heliums performance for me was what a seasoned champion does. Comes in , gives 0 fks about what the innovative underdog is doing, looks into his eyes, does this round , and fking walks away ..absolute machine.
Yes yes YES! English are not my 1st language so all I can do is read throughout the comments and agree with everything said about Helium and this comment right here is what I couldn't express myself! Thank you said it out for me
Love these videos Dlow! The minor timing gripe You had of Helium was actually I believe composed that way by him. If you count in 8 bar phrases he stays consistent. He’s pushing the boundaries of what most people can hear as still being in time with rhythmic oscillation by having such long phrases. Brilliant!
The more times I Listen to helium's round the more I enjoy it than the last time I heard it Like the dead lip snares coupled with little pauses(10:59) are so well placed and make it so musically enjoyable
Allo all hope you're well. I just love how you don't just break down the beatboxing but also mimic and explain how its done and i think thats amazing. Helium is basically beatboxing the drum and base i grew up on and it always hypes me up, this routine is almost pulling me back to my youth mate i love drum and base and he just always hits the right spot for me. Come on gbb loving the build up to it and this year is gonna be mental the talent is just exploding atm. Thank you to all you guys who carried on beatboxing as your passion even when it wasn't popular you guys are why its where it is today and i not naming names but if you read this then you know who i mean. ESH🔥👊🔥
I'd love a collaboration of you and helium.. you are both so good beatboxers that strive for perfection and a collaboration of you two would be insane dnb with helium doing drums and you doing melody and bass.. that would destroy EVERYTHING
There's levels in the beatbox world and Helium is in that top tier of just awe inspiring beatboxers that don't seem human, where they can do things that others thought couldn't be done and they do them incredibly well
@Matthew Miller I know I've been a fan of his for number of years now the main things always let him down was his structuring but he's gotten a lot better at that to I think this is his year to be the solo champ
I think the sheer diversity and technicality of Heliums rountines make him the one to beat this year. The guy is a machine. This better be the top of the round 2 routines.
In terms of consistency and cleanness of the sounds Helium Is the top in the world without doubts..and now he is starting to master the pitch control and making more musical stuff! He is defenetely one of the best beatboxers in the world right now, one of my favorites😉
With the carpet and rugs on the walls in the recent vids, I get this image that he is a carpet salesmen who uses the leftovers to make jumpers so he can save money for beatbox events.
I produce music since 2015 and I can say Helium is a real man sequencer, his beatbox it’s real song, arrangement, quality of sound, Helium is not human… Big up for Helium 🫡
Yo man coming back into beatbox, been somewhat away from it, but can feel it coming out more. Juss done some digging into heliums vids, his dubstep vid was ridiculous!! Beatbox has levelled since I've been away, I just caught napom coming in Gene getting big, those times 🤯
As a drummer I would say helium is utilizing very unconventional patterns to fill his rythms which it may feel like he has timing issue but if you pay more attention or set a metronome than you would realize that he seldomly have any timing issues.
I am a drummer too; and for me, I can't find a single timing or tempo issue in this piece. Maybe the only think that felt off for me was him extending of the roll he is doing at the end by an extra bar. But that isn't actually an issue. That's just a choice.
Im not a fan of DnB but the tech Helium put at his routine is out of this world. I kinda wish Helium would try to balance Technicality and Musicality. With that skills he got, he would create a banger piece Also the final part of his DnB is just lit
So, you find one (maybe) mistake and proved that Helium is not Purple Hulk Beatbox Machine, but perfect human beeing. I wonder how would look like beatbox battle between you two... Since you two respect each other so much it would probably turn into colaboration 🎻🥁🪘patry time
