Another great episode. Thanks Rob. Love watching you hunt and catch those giant brook trout. Here in Colorado we call them brookies if you catch my meaning.

Beautiful video and fishing!! What is the rod/line weight you were using for the trout fishing? And the tippet size? Thanks
@robertheal261
@robertheal261 Год назад
They were both 6wts, and for the dry flies, I used 4X tippet. The streamer fishing was all done with a type 3 sink tip and about 3ft of straight, 12lb floro tippet.

what gear do I bring for a trip like that ?
@robertheal261
@robertheal261 Год назад
Dress for all types of weather! It turns on a dime. As far as rods, reels and lines, 6 to 8wts with lines from type 3 sink, intermediate and floating.

We used a canoe to get from run to run. Fishing from a canoe in a small river like that doesn't make much sense.

if your not on the bottom you wont get a walleye
@newflyfisher
@newflyfisher Год назад
In general you're right....but they're not always on the bottom. It depends upon water conditions, light conditions and more importantly, where the food is. I've caught walleye on dry flies when big Hex where emerging and also on mice patterns on the surface near dark. But, in general, you do catch them on bottom BUT not always. thanks for your feedback

Just using whatever you had when you know you’re going through pikes? Seems not very thought through for a trip of a lifetime.
@newflyfisher

Patrick, the entire focus of the trip there was to catch Brook Trout and Rob planned accordingly. However, weather and even water levels changed the game/plan numerous times before he even flew up. To make matters worse, Rob learned upon arrival one of the guides had his brother die back in Thunder Bay and most of the staff are family friends, so they all left for the funeral. They literally did not have a guides available who knew the waterways for the trout until the last day. ....so I guess he could have tried to envision this might happen, but given situation he did the best he could. For the future, sure he will plan for worst case scenario. This coming summer Rob is doing a show in Labrador....where he is also fishing for big Brook Trout....but there is also Pike there. I'm sure he will plan for both
