A new angle of the Vault just for kicks, featuring a Bottled-In-Bond release with many layers and a "double finish" Big thanks to Rebecca Cherry & Michael Ragsdale for the bottle. Cheers ya M.B.s!
Was at the distillery last fall. Much larger than I had expected. Sounds like they are constantly building new rickhouses. Great tour and great juice. I'm a fan!
They just purchased a TON of land across the street from the main house for rickhouses. Construction all over the place. They're really really increasing production
I think I learned some things about Rex today. One thing is that he's quite intelligent. The other thing is that the switch that controls his intelligence has a default position of off. But when he flicks that switch.....
I swear everytime they do an episode on a BIB whiskey Rex ends up asking what the proof is 🤣. And Daniels just like 😒 “we’ve covered this a thousand times”
I actually like the new camera angle a lot. I feel like everything is balanced a bit better including the lighting. Take that as you will, some may argue illuminating your faces may not always be a benefit... Anyways, enjoyed your videos as always, keep up the great work.
We just came from Wilderness Trail. Didn’t know they existed until this weekend. The wheated bourbon is our new favorite. Dr. Patrick Heist is a very interesting and accomplished guy. You should do a deeper dive into his background
My favorite distillery on my shelf. Out of the bottles I have from their distillery, my fav is their Private Select Single barrel. Like candy in a bottle.
Anyone who looks down on blending needs to try Monkey Shoulder. It'll change their minds. Haha I named a scotch. I just got a bottle of Makers Mark 46 Cask Strength, and the first thing I did when I got home was turn on your video about said bottle. I love your channel, I watch every day. Please keep up the good work!
Loved the kung fu sound effects on Daniels hands!!! Well done!!! Keep that sh** up!!! Now we need some effects for Rex’s signature moves like his good field goal pose!
Your reference to model glue reminded me of working in a factory that molded rubber gaskets. Some of the gaskets were made of cloth coated with liquid rubber, that had been dissolved in toluene. I once subbed in the department that coated the fabric. I got high as a kite and my industrial apron got caught on a cotter pin on a roller. It almost dragged me into the fabric being coated. I yelled loud enough for someone to come in and turn the machine off.
Under appreciated comment. I don’t know if you write regularly, but you’re good at it, so you should. A nice, taut vignette, with controlled, evocative images. Well done.
Popular outside the south? I know we have them here in Norway. My dad had one at home and I remember we learned to burn in our name in stuff we crafted in woodwork class in school.
Hello there. In a video of yours you said some distilleries use small oak barrels to age the whisk(e)y faster than the normal distilleries do. Does both taste the same or is there any difference. Will you get the same nose, palate and finish?
They have a yeast lab on site at the distillery where they experiment with different strains of year that they send to distilleries all over. At least they did when I visited several years ago.
Don't quote me on this, but I'm sure this distillery does a sweet mash instead of a sour one. They're also out of Danville KY, but I'm sure that's on the bottle.
@@ricardodelorenzo3954 The owner of a local Cafe hosted a bourbon tasting and invited them as guests. This was several months ago, I'm pretty sure I remember correctly, but I might not have. Yes I agree both are very good!
Great one! But no sounds effects that make it hard to hear what Daniel is saying. We are here for his wisdom and Rex's humor, first, and Rex's wisdom and Daniel's humor, second! ;)
At first glance, an English speaker would expect that the word "single" is modifying the word "malt." Not so. The two words are talking about two different things. The single/blended part of the phrase refers to whether the whiskey is made at a single distillery or if it is a blend of whiskies made at multiple distilleries. The malt/grain part of the phrase refers to what types of grain are used. Malt means 100% barley. Grain means it is a mixture of grains. If it says "single barrel" or "single cask" somewhere on the label, all the bottles in the release came from the same barrel. Otherwise, the whiskey is a blend of barrels either from one distillery (single) or several distilleries (blend).
This is definitely a column still. They're producing as much whiskey as Wild Turkey now and are one of the biggest contract distillers in the country. The richness you're tasting is most likely due to NCF and a low barrel entry proof (110).
I wonder what video they spend the least amount of time actually talking about the whiskey? That would be a great feat! They can talk about the whiskey for less than 10 seconds and the rest is just stretchy jeans, shorts, and shenanigans.
"You realize barrel releases are thing..." and then you come to realize small batch means nothing! I know you said this in an episode at some point, but it's worth saying many times. Small batch means nothing. Small batch for 4 Roses could be the same batch size as the entire years output of a small distillery like Starlight or New Riff. You just have no idea how big a "small" batch really is.
Hey, I often share a similar opinion about bourbon. I do have many bourbons that I enjoy, but it takes effort to find them. That generic, simple bourbon... I don't enjoy. It tastes like boring sweet water to me. If someone enjoys that, good on them. It isn't for me. I like complex and spicy, so I gravitate to Scotch and Rye, but there are many Bourbons with some Rye and also higher proof can blast you the right way.
Editor was having some fun :-) It seems some of the editing is slowly moving in a "it's alive" (Bon Appetit) direction. And I'm absolutely fine with it!
Hey Rex and Daniel or anyone else in the whiskey tribe. I have a friend who is a rum guy and has told me he hasn’t had a whiskey that he’s really liked. I want to get him to try something that might make him think twice about whiskey. Something that has been finished in a rum cask might be good but if anybody had a good idea it would be appreciated.
